Tunisia: Muslims besiege university, take hostages to demand face veils, end of mixed classes

The Sharia Spring marches on. Have we mentioned that we tried to tell you? Well, we tried to tell you. "Salafists besiege Tunisian university: Dean, professors taken hostage," from Middle East Online, November 29 (thanks to Twostellas):

TUNIS - A group of Salafists disrupted classes on Monday at a university west of the capital Tunis, demanding a stop to mixed-sex classes and for female students to wear full face veils, officials said.
The mob of Salafists also took hostage the dean of the University of Letters, Arts, and Humanities of Manouba along with several other professors.
One of the professors who witnessed the protest said the group threatened him and verbally abused other professors. The professor called on the protection of the army, but no security forces had yet been confirmed arrived.
"A group of Salafists, dressed like the Afghans, have been camped in front of my office since early afternoon," Habib Kazdaghli, the dean of faculty at the University of Manuba, said.
The group of several dozen students interrupted an English class in the morning, Kazdaghli said.
"They want girls to wear the niqab, a mosque in the middle of the campus, a stop to mixed classes and a prohibition of women teaching male students and vice versa," he said, adding that it marked the first such incident on campus.
Tunisia's Salafists have become more assertive in recent months, following the revolution that ousted a staunchly secular regime along with president Zine el Abidine Ben Ali in January following mass protests.
The ministry of higher education "firmly" condemned the incident, saying that "all recourse to violence is inadmissible and intolerable."
In regards to policies concerning the niqab, a ministry spokesperson said that "according to current regulations, each student must be able to be identified before accessing the university, for pedagogic and security reasons."

In the West, you're a seething Islamophobe for saying that.

Visible again on the streets of Tunis and other major cities, their new assertiveness has led to a number of more or less violent clashes.

So much for a night in Tunisia. Miss Chaka will never wear that kitchen towel.

Tunisian version of "Keeping Up With the Egyptians" a.k.a. "Occupy Manouba". It should be interesting to see how long their security regulations hold up in the face of more Salafist onslaughts.

The mob of Salafists also took hostage the dean of the University of Letters, Arts, and Humanities of Manouba along with several other professors.

Even Bill Ayers, Mark Rudd and Bernardine Dohrn wouldn't do the professor kidnapping thing. Ayers, political mentor to Prez Barack Hussein, understood that you had a chance of getting away with setting off a bomb, but with kidnappings there would be too many witnesses, including the kidnapped professors, unless you killed them, of course. Sticky wicket.

But you can get away with kidnapping in Dar al-Islam, and the students know it. After all, kidnapping was a keystone to the expansion program operated by the Holy Prophet, and it's been a cool thing to do for some time now, 1,400 years, in fact. To wit: Prez Mahmoud, he's one of the most successful kidnappers ever. But killing hostages? Nah, not unless in a secure and secret location with well planned egress.

Fervid Kidnappers: Misunderstood
Kidnappings here, kidnappings there, all in a breathy wet cosmic Islamic swirl,
Swirl that dripping butcher knife into the throats of Enzo Boldini & Daniel Pearl.
Lo! The Holy Prophet did it, was damned good at it, and got away with it as well!
Enough with the pop psychology & Marxian analyses, they have a system to sell.

This mob of Salafist thugs are the Tunisian counterparts of Iran's Basij militia, the rampaging goons who stormed the British embassy this week, and rove the college campuses and streets of Iran enforcing morality, sharia law, and respect for the supreme leader. In fact, back in October these same Salafists attacked a private Tunisian TV station for running Persopolis, an animated film critical of the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

The Basij, those are the same guys who raped that gorgeous beauty school student to death two years ago during the student uprising in Iran. Pamela blogged about Taraneh Moussavi here:

Stop mixed classes? Muslims, keep your heads down, the world has read your books and history.
Did your "prophet" stop mixed BEDS? Remember? Muhammad, Aisha and Ali under the same quilt? Then, Aisha and Ali, alone, under the same Quilt?
Keepe your heads down, you have NOTHING to be proud of.

"What do Niqabs, Mosques, free-mixing and crazy fundamentalists have to do with Islam? They have no relation to Islam at all!"-The Mainstream Media

So much for moderate, secular Tunisia!

Muslims, keep your heads down, the world has read your books and history.

While optimism is a good thing, Salah, maybe one tenth of one percent of the world's Infidel population has read up on Islam. And none of those have the ear of each Infidel nation's population.

The resulting information gap is the source of the commanding advantage the Moslems enjoy, and the reason for the long succession of wins they have attained over the last decades. Their only defeats are minor ones of little significance, where some Moslem activist or another is convicted of murder, or plotting murder, and then thrown into prison where he can use his taxpayer-funded copy of the Holy Ko-Ran to perform Dawa there.

Thru the Looking Glass: This Ain't No Wonderland
Keep joe haids held up high, Moslems, for in the Cause you guys are winning,
Think Bill O'Reilly knows that, Schieffer or Matt Lauer? Their haids are spinning.
See no evil, hear no evil, know no evil; at least not that evil, that'd be way crazy,
Cuz the program is to sleepwalk, not chalk talk; be so lazy and keep it reel hazy.

Poor Tunisia. Does Tunisia think the tourists will go there like they used to? In the past, I wanted to visit that country but not now, no way I would go to a country like that. Simple.

You should have tried to tell us that this would happen...

Yes that's right, we should have been told!

Tunisia: Muslims besiege university, take hostages to demand face veils, end of mixed classes
...............................

Less than a year ago, Tunisia was the most nearly secular state in the Mahgreb. No more...

The Sharia Spring marches on. Have we mentioned that we tried to tell you? Well, we tried to tell you. "Salafists besiege Tunisian university: Dean, professors taken hostage"
...............................

This very much reminds me of Iran, where "students" are far more concerned about enforcing Islamic norms on both their fellow students and even their professors than actually learning anything.

Has anyone else here read "Reading Lolita in Tehran"? The most direct threat to "liberal" teachers like Azar Nafisi was not the Mullahs per se, but the enforcers among her own students.

No one dared to be critical of these "conservative" students, or even risk giving them a poor grade, no matter what the quality of their work—*or even whether they bothered to do the work at all*.

...............................

I don't imagine this choice of dean was *in any way* an accident. The arts and humanities are most likely to involve influence from the West or "un-Islamic" sources. This, really, is inevitable—the arts *do not* flourish under strict Shari'ah—not even the arts native to the Muslim world such as Oud music and certain types of poetry.

"An English class"—see above.

...............................

How often have we seen this, when Jihadists attack Infidels or the "insufficiently Islamic"? So often, all over the Muslim world, the authorities don't show up in adequate force, stand idly by, or—as here—simply do not show up at all?

More:

"A group of Salafists, dressed like the Afghans, have been camped in front of my office since early afternoon," Habib Kazdaghli, the dean of faculty at the University of Manuba, said.
...............................

"Dressed like the Afghans"—*that* speaks volumes. That we have Tunisians—traditionally among the most sophisticated of Muslims—*aspiring to the level of some of the most ignorant and barbaric people on the face of the earth*.

When I first found out that the savages who had seized control of that illiterate and backward country in the 1990s styled themselves "The Taliban" (the students) I remember thinking, "students *of what*?"

Of course, I know all too well at this point. Not students of any of any of the disciplines taught at this university, but just students of Islam, Islam, Islam.

More:

"They want girls to wear the niqab, a mosque in the middle of the campus, a stop to mixed classes and a prohibition of women teaching male students and vice versa," he said, adding that it marked the first such incident on campus.
...............................

And how long before they—like their role models the Taliban—just want to *ban education for girls outright*?

More:

The ministry of higher education "firmly" condemned the incident, saying that "all recourse to violence is inadmissible and intolerable."
...............................

This is watery—notice the ministry of higher education will not go so far as to say that the *goals* of these Jihadists are actually a problem...

Visible again on the streets of Tunis and other major cities, their new assertiveness has led to a number of more or less violent clashes.
...............................

"Their new assertiveness"—brought to you courtesy of the "Arab Spring"—which the hopeful fools in the West still like to believe was all about freedom and democracy...

From the article:

"Tunisia's Salafists have become more assertive in recent months".

'assertive'?

No. AGGRESSIVE.

"Tunisia's Salafists have become more openly aggressive in recent months".

And again -

"their new assertiveness has led to a number of more or less violent clashes".

Translation:

"Their aggression has manifested in a number of violent attacks on persons or institutions deemed unislamic".

My brother and sister-in-law went to Tunisia on their honeymoon, about 25 years ago. At that time, it had a vibrant economy, and was a great place to be, loads of tourists, spending money, putting money *into* the country. What fools they are.

They might as well be chanting, "Make women wholly responsible for lust. Give impunity to men for sexual crime!" That is an Islamic principle sanctioned by Sharia law.
