University of London college holds Christmas service featuring Qur'an readings

Here are some more lovely and inspiring Qur'an selections they could feature:

Qur'an 98:4-6: "Nor did the People of the Book make schisms, until after there came to them Clear Evidence. And they have been commanded no more than this: To worship Allah, offering Him sincere devotion, being true (in faith); to establish regular prayer; and to practise regular charity; and that is the Religion Right and Straight. Those who reject (Truth), among the People of the Book and among the Polytheists, will be in Hell-Fire, to dwell therein (for aye). They are the worst of creatures."

Qur'an 5:14: "From those, too, who call themselves Christians, We did take a covenant, but they forgot a good part of the message that was sent them: so we estranged them, with enmity and hatred between the one and the other, to the day of judgment. And soon will Allah show them what it is they have done."

Qur'an 4:171: "O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not "Three" - Cease! (it is) better for you! - Allah is only One Allah. Far is it removed from His Transcendent Majesty that He should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as Defender."

Qur'an 5:116: "And when Allah saith: O Jesus, son of Mary! Didst thou say unto mankind: Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah? he saith: Be glorified! It was not mine to utter that to which I had no right. If I used to say it, then Thou knewest it. Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Thy Mind. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Knower of Things Hidden?"

Qur'an 19:35: "It is not befitting to (the majesty of) Allah that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! when He determines a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is."

Qur'an 9:30-31: "And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah, and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah. That is their saying with their mouths. They imitate the saying of those who disbelieved of old. Allah (Himself) fighteth against them. How perverse are they! They have taken as lords beside Allah their rabbis and their monks and the Messiah son of Mary, when they were bidden to worship only One Allah. There is no Allah save Him. Be He Glorified from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)!"

Qur'an 9:29: "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."

Meanwhile, where are the mosques featuring Bible readings?

"Royal Holloway College holds Islamic Christmas Carol Service," from the Archbishop Cranmer blog, December 15 (thanks to Twostellas):

[...] But even grimmer for Anglicans are ‘inclusive’ Christmas carols services – you know, the sort that bend over backwards to be all things to all people in order that by any means possible none may be offended. In fact, it is these sort of gospel-lite and theology-free services which are largely responsible for people not finding Christ – even at Christmas.

Royal Holloway College, in the University of London, held its Christmas carol service in its own College Chapel, presided over jointly by the College's Chaplain – an Anglican vicar, the Rev'd Cate Irvine, and a Roman Catholic chaplain from the local church, Fr Vladimir Nikiforov.

And what did the assembled festive throng hear? The prophecy of of Isaiah? 'For unto us a child is born...'? The Gospel of Luke? 'There went out a decree from Caesar Augustus...'? A reading from Micah, perhaps? 'But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He come forth unto Me that is to be Ruler in Israel'?

No, none of the above. Instead, they got the Qur'an:

Behold! the angels said "O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus the son of Mary held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah.

"He shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity and he shall be of the company of the righteous."

She said: "O my Lord! how shall I have a son when no man hath touched me?" He said: "Even so: Allah createth what He willeth; when He hath decreed a plan He but saith to it 'Be' and it is!

"And Allah will teach him the Book and Wisdom the Law and the Gospel.

"And (appoint him) an Apostle to the Children of Israel with this message: I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I make for you out of clay as it were the figure of a bird and breathe into it and it becomes a bird by Allah's leave; and I heal those born blind and the lepers and I quicken the dead by Allah's leave; and I declare to you what ye eat and what ye store in your houses. Surely therein is a Sign for you if ye did believe.

"I have come to you to attest the Law which was before me and to make lawful to you part of what was before forbidden to you; I have come to you with a Sign from your Lord. So fear Allah and obey me.

"It is Allah who is my Lord and your Lord; then worship Him. This is a way that is straight." (Qur'an 3:45-51)

Fantastic, eh? Perhaps we should be grateful that the Rev’d Cate and Fr Vladimir didn’t select this reading:

That they rejected faith: that they uttered against Mary a grave false charge. That they said in boast "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary the Apostle of Allah"; but they killed him not nor crucified him but so it was made to appear to them and those who differ therein are full of doubts with no (certain) knowledge but only conjecture to follow for of a surety they killed him not. (Qur'an 4:156-158)

Perhaps they’re saving that for Easter....

I don't quite see how they are "bending over backwards not to offend anyone." I'm very offended. And so are the 2.5% of the British population who share my beliefs.

I believe in freedom of speech in the agora, but not in church. People who are drawing salaries from major Christian denominations have a responsibility to preach Christianity. Even if they have personally lost faith, if they persist in drawing the salary, they continue to have the duty to preach the Gospel.

This is one area where there is no conflict between Catholic and Anglican. Both creeds teach that Jesus is fully God, fully human and born of a virgin. The priest and the vicar could have presented a lovely ecumenical service together without resorting to heresy.

Did they feature readings from any other religion (excepting, of course, Christianity)? Say, Hinduism or Mormonism?

Because I'm reminded of this quote from the excellent Douglas Murray in Standpoint magazine:

"What about the Hindus? This thought occurred to me the other night while watching an evening of documentaries about Islam on BBC4. By the end, the viewer was left with the distinct impression that we would all still be living in mud-huts if Muhammad's mother had remained a virgin. We learned that Muslims had been behind the invention of pretty much everything from modern medicine, writing and literature to culture, bouncy castles and, I think, eating.

But what this farce of bad TV and worse history did remind me of was that if, say, the Hindu community had only been fortunate enough to produce four young men willing to blow the hell out of Londoners and provided a clerical and political class willing to make excuses for them, then the BBC might credit Hindus with inventing the modern world. The government would be pumping tens of millions of pounds into their community events. Young people would be taught Hindu scriptures with resources from the public purse. The Guardian would be bowing its collective editorial knee before their deities. At Christmas, the most rabidly genocidal Hindu leader available would doubtless broadcast to the nation on Channel 4. When you stand back and look at it, the problem for all the other religions is that they just can't seem to provide the eager young foot-soldiers that Islam can."

To prove the holiness and sacredness of your scriptures, and their worthiness to be read in a church at a service celebrating the holiest of events in Christianity - you just have to blow some stuff up.

Don't these dhimmi tools understand what the Islamic Jesus ("Isa") *really is*?

I'm not even referring here to such disturbing matters such as his not being regarded as the Son of God or even of sending some poor follower to die nameless in his place.

I'm talking about the Islamic conception of the end of days, when "Isa" returns to earth to "break the cross and kill the pigs"—to do away with dhimmitude, the small, uncertain space Islam allows for Christians to practice their faith.

After that, "Isa" offers Christians two choices—convert to Islam immediately or die.

In other words, "Jesus's" role in Islam is **to kill Christians**.

Merry Christmas, dhimmis!

London's Calling! is what the Clash sang, but who is calling? That's what I axe,
And for what reason? Another inter-faith dialog, with treason but w/o facts?
Lo! Let us study this vexing problem as poorly as possible, let's do reel bad!
Let 'em film a BBC documentary, of self-piety & reality denial, w/o gad, just sad.

Did you ever consider that certain Christian churches (notably some in the Big Church category) are abyssmally led? You can tell using a simple test. Do they teach the Gospel message: each is a sinner walking the broad road to a predicable end, but that each can turn from that path onto the narrow road and enter through a narrow gate through the grace provided by Jesus Christ.

Church leaders aren't democratically elected; rather they're self-appointed from their own. And therefore they see the church's mission according to their own lights which too often are at great variance from those of the Master.

Hindus don't need billions from our government. They are doing quite well enough by their own efforts. They speak English and have jobs. They are 1% of the general population but only 0.5% of the prison population. They have found their own ways of being distinctively British and yet distinctively Hindu.

Of course, it does help that Hinduism is not a Revealed Religion, so its laws are mutable. No British Hindu wants to burn widows or persecute outcastes. They have even found ways of believing in reincarnation without being fatalists.

There's a book out called Chrislam. I gather it's a warning call about how some Christian missionaries in the Islamic world are Islamizing Christianity. Don't know more about it than that, except that I heard it was a good book...

It is impossible to say at a distance, but it sounds as if this is another misbegotten case of "inclusiveness" and "outreach" that will only be perceived on the one hand as a soothing bromide that "we all really worship and want the same thing" and on the other as the further crumbling of infidel institutions, only embolden further demands and expectations from the same.

Here's all the outreach we need:

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men" Luke 2:14

That sums it up perfectly without any of the Allah nonsense.

Nice Robert, now if only your words of Truth, could be piped into the brains or audience of the UL college religious offenders of Truth, traitors all in taqiyya and kitman. Hopefully, someone higher might fire these priests, or some other approprate sanctions be done with all of them, for offending me, also, and offending so many, many others, including seculars, for their preaching lies, as the latest useful village idiots, of Freedom's enemy. And for the lies and half truths, of that well known taqiyyah, and kitman, that they so well executed, with forked tongues.

Sean. .ya' left ''We Mad Mullahs Of Makkah Are'' off the carol-sheet. . fatwa on the way . .

They have even found ways of believing in reincarnation without being fatalists.

I guess that rejection of fatalism is a key difference between what I'd dare call a Judeo-Christian concept of reincarnation (some Jews and Christians think a form of reincarnation happens), and the pre-Judaic view. In the Judeo-Christian concept, reincarnation is not an ahistorical process, not an endless closed wheel you need to transcend so as to dissolve your individuality into a higher formless spiritual state. Instead reincarnation is a historical process, i.e. an open-ended, unfolding spiral that had some sort of beginning or quasi-beginning, and will have some sort of end or quasi-end. Individuality or ego is not to be transcended as something bad, but rather to be developed and ennobled over a series of lives. Individual freedom is key. Perhaps Hindus have discovered this sort of thing on their own, out of their own noble and brilliant culture, but the ancient forms of that culture were, unless I'm mistaken, pre-individual, ahistorical, cyclical, somewhat fatalistic. One can see aspects of that even in the ancient Greek culture, which was also pre-Judaic and pre-Christian -- in Plato for example is the idea that the highest realities are static, cyclical. And Plato's idea of reincarnation is rather ahistorical, cyclical, and pre-individual, isn't it? But the Jews' concept of existence was historical, not cyclical, and any given moment was unique, not a repetition of a moment that comes again and again in an endlessly revolving closed circle. Historical awareness seems to be prerequisite to full consciousness of individuality, because only if each moment is unique can one even conceive of one's own life course as made of individualized, unique moments. Only then is one not conceived as primarily a mere repetition or shadow of some supra-individual mythical being or other. (Remember how every pharaoh, while alive, was felt by the ancient Egyptians to be Horus. After he died, he became Osiris.)

I'm feebly trying to sketch the historical evolution of consciousness and individuality. So enough of that.

Bunty Hoven, I like that quote from Douglas Murray. He's good. I saw him team up with Ayaan Hirsi Ali to debate a couple of Muslims on the question of whether Islam is a religion of peace. At the end of the debate, Murray's side won very handily, according to the electronic voting of the audience (and of course in my opinion as well). The victory was more due to Murray than to Hirsi Ali, who was also very good, just not as good as Murray...

You all have put me in the musical spirit.

Sorry, but I get a kick out of this one everytime I hear it.

Merry Christmas and may God bless America!

Core Islamic texts disagree with the Bible: human beings are not made in the image of God

For example, in Qur'an Chapter 42, Verse 11:

The Creator of the heavens and the earth. He hath made for you pairs of yourselves, and of the cattle also pairs, whereby He multiplieth you. Naught is as His likeness; and He is the Hearer, the Seer.

Compare Genesis Chapter 1, Verse 26:

Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness

In the Judeo-Christian conception, human beings, made in God's likeness, are children of God the Father. In the Qur'an, Allah never calls himself "Father," and in several places denies He has any sons or daughters. Rather, human beings are only Allah's servants or slaves. "I have only created jinns and men that they may serve me." (Qur'an 51:56) Even if both theologies are pure fantasy, the Islamic one leads to authoritarian social outcomes, whereas the Judeo-Christian one tends, over the long run, toward freedom.

Daniel Boorstin: "There is a vast difference...between the Hebrew-Christian God the Maker and the Muslim God of Fiat."

"For a believing Muslim, to create is a rash and dangerous act."

In a very short chapter of Boorstin's The Creators: A History of Heroes of the Imagination (a book that with his The Discoverers and The Seekers forms a magisterial and deservedly famous trilogy), Boorstin sought the heart of the difference between Islamic and Judeo-Christian culture. Here are some choice excerpts:

…the Muslim God, though a kind of Creator, had a character quite different from the God of the Hebrews and the Christians...[I]n the Koran the role of the Creator is transformed. The familiar words of Genesis record that God spent six days on the Creation.
[Genesis 2:2] 'And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day...'
In the Koran God never rests, for he can never be tired.
'[Koran, Chapter 50, verse] 38: We created the heavens and the earth and all between them in Six Days. Nor did any sense of weariness touch Us.'
It is no wonder that the Koranic God was not wearied. For He created not by making but by ordering, not by work but by command. The creation of anything occurs when He decrees it into being.
'[Koran, Chapter 2, verse] 117: To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth; when He decreeth a matter, He saith to it: "Be," and it is.'
Again and again the Koran describes God's fiat...

There are some similar expressions in Genesis of God creating by fiat...But there is a vast difference in emphasis between the acts of Creation in the Bible and in the Koran. And between the character of the Hebrew-Christian God the Maker, and the Muslim God of Fiat...

The Muslim Creator-God is notable not only, nor even mainly, for His work in the Beginning, but as an orderer, a commander, of life and death in our present. The Judeo-Christian God is awesome for the uniqueness of His work in the Beginning. Then He may intervene by divine providence...

After...the six days of fiat, the God of the Koran, having no reason to rest, simply mounted the throne of authority. From there he continued to rule by decree over life and death and every earthly act.

The relation of the Muslim God to his creature man, then, is quite unbiblical. The uniqueness of the biblical Creator-God was in his powers of making; the uniqueness of man and woman too would be in their power to imitate their God and after their fashion to exercise the power of creation. After God created the species in the Beginning, he blessed them to be fruitful and multiply...

Why did God create man? The God of the Bible would judge man by his fulfillment of his godlike image. Not so in Islam.

'[Koran, Chapter 51, verse] 56: I have only created jinns and men, that they may serve Me. I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship me.'
...The People of the Koran prefer to call themselves Muslims, from 'Islam,' the Arabic word for submission or obedience. The Koran repeatedly reminds us that Allah's creatures are also his 'servants' or 'slaves'. What clearer warning against reaching for the new? For a believing Muslim, to create is a rash and dangerous act.
(my bolding; Boorstin, 1992, pp.63-69.)

K, I'll stop quoting stuff now.

I got a huge kick out of this, Jolene!

Of course, these Qur'an-spouting morons are more clueless than deliberately malignant—but that doesn't make them any less dangerous.

London Bridge is falling down,
United Kingdom is gone !

Christmas may originate from pagan worship, but it's significance today and for many centuries, is to remind people of the Christian faith, even if only by name. Therefore it should not be associated with any other religion. As the Muslims say, Allah has no partners, then the Christian God too has no partners. Christianity is not to be shared with, nor equalled to other religions. Christmas too should not be smeared with Islam.
Jews and Christians worship the same God. Muslims worship a different God. Islam has nothing to do with Christmas and Christmas has nothing to do with Islam. The Quran should not be even mentioned in a Christmas service, never mind quoted from!
The Dhimmis responsible for this fiasco should never be allowed to have anything to do with Christmas Services again.
BTW, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.

Ooo-kay.

We have a place, and we have names, which means we have people who should be able to be *contacted*.

"Royal Holloway College, in the University of London, held its Christmas carol service in its own College Chapel, presided over jointly by the College's Chaplain – an Anglican vicar, the Rev'd Cate Irvine, and a Roman Catholic chaplain from the local church, Fr Vladimir Nikiforov."

There are Londoners here present.

I think Rev Kate Irvine and Fr Vladimir Nikiforov need to be - very politely - told what a very silly and dangerous thing they have just done.

Make sure that your letter includes the Quran quotes with which Mr Spencer introduced his posting.

And if your budget is up to it, you could always pop over to Rev Mark Durie's website and obtain two nice copies of his excellent and inexpensive little book which sets out the bottomless gulf that divides the biblical faiths - Christianity and Judaism - from Islam. Namely, 'Revelation? Do We Worship the Same God? Jesus, God, Holy Spirit in Christianity and Islam". He even has a few pages at the back where the key differences - indeed, antitheses - are set out in tabular form. It's a book an intelligent high-school kid could understand, but it's fully researched and scholarly.

http://www.markdurie.com/Revelation.html

And here is Jewish scholar and historian Bat Yeor, reviewing Durie's book. An article that could also be sent to Rev Irvine and Fr Nikiforov.

http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/219405/which-one-god/bat-yeor

Excerpt:

"Many Christians profess that Christianity is closer to Islam than to Judaism, because of a common reverence of Jesus/Isa and his mother Mary.

"They will be astonished to learn from Durie that according to hadiths — acts and sayings attributed to Muhammad, and endowed with theological and legislative authority — Isa, the Muslim Jesus, will be the ultimate destroyer of Christianity.

"Durie examines the characters of Jesus and [the Muslims'] Isa, separated by six centuries; he compares their name and biographies and explains the differing understandings of the prophecy in the Bible and the Koran.

"While Christianity accepts Jewish Scriptures as the foundation of their belief and practice, and as an integral part of Christian ministry, read in churches around the world, Muslims disregard the Bible. They claim that it is Islam that is the common heritage of Jews, Christians, and Muslims, and that Jews and Christians should work to recover this heritage. Durie comments that, in this process, the Islamization of Jesus and the Hebrew patriarchs and prophets destroys both Christianity and Judaism."

And then there is this.

An influential member of the Ottoman Committee of Union and Progress, Sheik Abd-ul-Hack, a “progressive” Young Turk, made this revealing declaration writing in a Parisian Muslim review, (Le Mecherouttiete, edited by Sherif Pasha, Paris), in August, 1912.

As cited by Servier in 'Islam and the Psychology of the Musulman', translated by A. S. Moss-Blundell, London, 1924, pp. 241-42; part of this material is also cited independently by the great American scholar of Islam, Samuel Zwemer.

"For us [Muslims] in the world there are only believers and unbelievers; love, charity, fraternity toward believers; contempt, disgust, hatred, and war against unbelievers.
‘Amongst the unbelievers the most hateful and criminal are those who, while recognizing God, attribute to Him earthly relationship, give Him a son, a mother." [This is the part that Zwemer quoted also].

Then the Muslim went on:

"Yes! The Musulman religion is in open hostility to all your world of progress.

"Understand, you European observers, that **a Christian, whatever his position may be, by the mere fact of his being a Christian is regarded by us as a blind man lost to all sense of human dignity.** {my emphasis - dda}

"Our reasoning with regard to him is as simple as it is definitive.

"We say: the man whose judgment is so perverted as to deny the existence of a one and only God, and to make up gods of different sorts, can only be the meanest expression of human degradation;

"to speak to him would be a humiliation for our intelligence and an insult to the grandeur of the Master of the Universe.

"The presence of such miscreants among us is the bane of our existence; their doctrine is a direct insult to the purity of our faith; contact with them is a defilement of our bodies; any relation with them a torture to our souls.

"Though detesting you, we have condescended to study your political institutions and your military organization.

"Over and above the new weapons that Providence procures for us through your agency, you have yourselves rekindled, the inextinguishable faith of our heroic martyrs.

"Our Young Turks, our Babis, our new Brotherhoods, all our sects, under various forms, are inspired by the same idea; the same necessity of moving forward.

"Towards what end? Christian civilization? Never! Islam is the one great international family. All true believers are brothers. A community of feeling and of faith binds them in mutual affection {suuure - we can see every day how the dear Muslims love each other...NOT - dda}. It is for the Caliph to facilitate these relations and to rally the Faithful under the sacerdotal standard....".

The context of Zwemer's citation is here:

Samuel Zwemer (d. 1952), an American scholar of Islam, and former editor of Moslem World, wrote the following in 1920 (in [the journal] "Moslem World," Vol. 10, pp. 154-155):

“Its [Islam's] intolerance and persecuting spirit have been revealed within the past few years, the blood of a million {Armenian Christian -dda } martyrs testifying to the failure of Islam, its absolute failure to understand the words that open every chapter save one of their Sacred Volume: ‘God the Merciful and Compassionate’. {I would say, not 'its absolute failure to understand', but rather "the sheer emptiness of the words that open every chapter"...dda}.

A few years ago one of the leading Moslems of Baghdad wrote an article for a French journal entitled, 'The Final Word of Islam to Europe' :

QUOTE "For us in the world there are only believers and unbelievers; love, charity, fraternity toward believers; contempt, disgust, hatred, and war against unbelievers.

"Amongst the unbelievers the most hateful and criminal are those who, while recognizing God, attribute to Him earthly relationship, give Him a son, a mother.

"Learn then, European observers, that a Christian of no matter what position, from the simple fact he is a Christian is in our eyes a blind man fallen from all human dignity.” UNQUOTE

Islam rejects the Incarnation and the Crucifixion because Islam at its core seeks and exalts Power - raw, brute, amoral Power.

The helpless, speechless infant in the manger, utterly dependent on his human mother, the humble carpenter working for a living in tiny unimportant Nazareth, and the naked man dying a slow, agonising, public, horrible and humiliating death - a slave's death - by the side of the road, outside Jerusalem, under Pilate's mocking sign 'This is the King of the Jews' - are utterly incomprehensible to the spiritual and political fascists and sadists of Islam who grovel before Power, before a remote and impersonal and unknowable allah who is nothing but the apotheosis of a cruel, capricious tyrant. The purpose of Power, if you have it, is to stamp on the faces of others; that is the Muslim idea of Power. That anyone, whether human or the divine, might use Power creatively, out of love, to benefit and give life to others, is beyond them; the idea of kenosis, of self-emptying, of reciprocity and charity and covenant-keeping, is anathema to them. That is why they *hate*, *hate*, *hate* the Cross - because it points to everything that Christians believe and that Muslims despise and reject.

Here is a lovely song that delights in all the glorious, atonishing, awesome paradoxes of the Christian doctrine of the Incarnation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qB-_kM5-XHU&feature=related

That is, of course 'astonishing', not 'atonishing'...my eyesight at the moment is such that my proofreading is not so good.

Just another example of how subjectivism and relativism have permeated every facet of the West, including the Christian churches. It's a denial of the very existence of an objective truth or an objective reality, and once a society goes down this path, the results will have to be catastrophic. I always yap on about this, but I would recommend that everyone read C.S. Lewis' book The Abolition of Man. He clearly saw where this was headed back in 1943. Islam isn't the problem---it's a barbaric, brutal religion that our ancestors understood, denounced and resisted. The problem is with us in the West, in the throes of multiculturalism. We believe in everything, which, as Mark Steyn has pointed out, is exactly the same thing as believing in nothing.

Once again British Christian Bishops stoop to the lowest levels. They are supposed to be the "defenders of faith(Christianity)".But what they are doing? The Bishops are supposed to be the shepheds of the Christian flocks. That is the reason they hold a staff( which is used to lead the sheeps in the correct path and to ward away the evil wolves) in their hands during ceremonies. But what these shepherds do here? They themselves bring in the cunning wolves into the fold of sheeps!Don't they know that according to the Koran,Muslim Jesus comes again into this world" to break the cross and kill the pigs"(meaning destroy Christians and Jews)?.

Words cannot express the sadness I feel as I watch bedfuddled moral relativists in the Western world commit slow and agonizing suicide. It is reprehensible for Christian clerics to recite islamic heresy in a Christian house of worship but it is unforgivable for them to equalize qur'anic filth with Biblical scriptures.

Will these 'inclusive' do-gooders believe the truth about islam when the muslim butchers arrive to behead them and destroy their churches, Bibles, hymnals, and all vestiges of Christianity? What a crying shame these Christian pastors found it necessary to adulterate the sanctity of Christmas with the putrid stench of islam.

The Islamic Santa comes with the gifts of guns, bombs and suicide belts to spread the spirit of Islamic love and peace.

Let's not forget to include a link to the browser which allows you to compare translations. It becomes painfully obvious that some are true to the original while others are trying to make the translation something it is not. You have to work hard at explaining why the same words could be translated from mild to harsh (and so frequently).

http://www.quranbrowser.com/

I'm not finding a whole lot on the Chrislam book (1 on Amazon but it doesn't sound like it is the book Traeh mentions) although there is a fair amount of blogging about how it won't work to try to combine Christianity and Islam.

Why is it that everybody seems gung-ho for attempting to make connections between religions in the first place?

I don't remember the term for it - "syncretism"?

Anyway.

One is simply appalled at the notion of Qur'anic readings for Christmas, but, perhaps, more sickened by the seeming necessity to add all the spices in the kitchen into the proverbial broth.

Franklin, about the church and democracy, it depends on your church. Way back in Acts 6, to be sure that widows were taken care of, Peter told the people to choose several able and devout men from among them, and the diaconate--the foundation of Christian ministry--was born. Also, the Reformed and Anabaptist churches early on gave the congregation a voice in choosing its leaders. In Presbyterian churches today, the "call" of a minister depends on the vote of a congregation willing to accept him; while ruling elders and deacons must be elected from among and by the congregation.

The writings of Cyprian of Carthage in the 3d century also speak of clergy being elected by both their peers and the laity.

This being said, I, as a Christian, am also utterly appalled that the Qur'an is intruded into a Christmas service. If they want something other than the Matthew and Luke narratives or prologue to John, there's plenty of wonderful stuff in Moses, the Prophets, and Hagiographa--all of which are Holy Scripture to Christians.

And, since you mention the Gospel,no book that denies that Jesus Christ died for our sins according to [the Old Testament] Scriptures (cf. I Cor. 15) can possibly be compatible with the Christian faith.

Your post was excellent.

Well said! Indeed most all of the comments on this topic have been spot on. I have been thinking lately about the rise of multiculturalism, political correctivism, kumbayahism, sheer lunacism and all the other cleanse-my-soul-isms gripping a large portion of liberal hearts and minds in the the west, and I smile. For despite any protestations on their part as to the contrary, they could not have arrived at this point of you're okay/I'm okay-ism, if not for a heritage steeped deep in the moral superiority (and I do mean superiority) of a judeo/christian upbringing. To be sure, they or their immediate forbears may not have ever tarnished the threshold of a church, yet their so-called "family values" are rooted firmly in Christianity whether they are willing to admit to such or not.

As I like to say, you may be able to change the title of a book but it's far more improbable that you'll change the contents.

Perhaps the silver lining in this otherwise dark cloud of liberal lunacy of treating islam as an equal among the great monotheistic faiths will be an awakening among christians/jews, who will finally come to see that they actually do hold the moral highroad, always have and always will.

Dave...

Excellent post.

"Religious cacophony". Love it! That, to me, describes the whole charade perfectly.

Hebrew Bible was probably written in 6th century BC, Christian Bible sometimes in 2nd century AD and Koran after the death (632 AD) of an illiterate pedophile polygamist (who married Aisha, one of his 12 wives, when she was 6y and he was 51) and a murderer, responsible for a gruesome murder (by beheadings) of 900 Jews from Medina, who were previously his trading partners. Nowadays this vile guy would either sit in jail or be sent to eternal hunting grounds for rape of a minor and multiple murders. Compare this man with Moses, Lao Tze, Buddha, Confucius, Jesus or with contemporary leaders of other religions, Pope, Dalai Lama and Jewish rabbis (there is not centralized power in Judaism). Compare these contemporary teachers of most religions to those of Imams and Mullah who are teaching their followers to murder Jews and Americans! It is ISLAM ITSELF, which is the root cause of terrorism!

Half of Koran are diatribes against the non-Muslims, and half is poor plagiarism of Hebrew Bible and Christian Bible, which Mohamed memorized from hanging around Jews and Christians, who lived in Arabia, long before he had his "encounter" with Allahu akbar. Read Koran and Hadith on line and see for yourself what Islam teaches. It is incompatible with the Universal declaration of Human Rights and US and other Constitutions, and therefore most Musolim countries never signed the Universal Human Rights Declaration.

Yet, they are allowed to UN to spew their Jew-hatred and defamation of Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East! Why? It is OIL, stupid. Sooner we stop using their oil (Saudi Arabia and Iran), sooner we will let this ideology of hate sink into the sands of history and the current influx of these dastardly ideas into Europe and American will stop!

1,600 millions of Muslims around the world take this guy as the "final" prophet of the "most perfect religion and the word of Allah", and 20% are "good" Muslims who are ready to murder and die for Allahu Akbar, while "moderate" Muslims are busy white washing this vile supremacist ideology of Islam, very similar to Nazi Jew-hating ideology of SUBMISSION to a Fuhrer, as Mathias Kunzel rightly pointed out (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthias_K%C3%BCntzel) The terrorists who were plunging planes into WTO were not shouting Hail Mary, Our Father, Shema israel, or OM but Allahu Akbar. It is ISLAM ITSELF, stupid! and politically correct fools who are too lazy to read Koran and Hadith to find for themselves what Islam teaches his followers.

In this "religious cacophony". the main ingredient of the soup always becomes Islamic. Hartford Seminary s the best example:

In 1893 they started an Islamic education department to equip Christian missionaries for the muslim world. Today it is essentially a Muslim Brotherhood group producing Imams. Even their 175th Anniversary logo sports the crescent.

One recent graduate's experience there is here:

"I have come to you to attest the Law which was before me and to make lawful to you part of what was before forbidden to you; I have come to you with a Sign from your Lord. So fear Allah and obey me.
"It is Allah who is my Lord and your Lord; then worship Him. This is a way that is straight." (Qur'an 3:45-51)

Allah's Law? As I wrote on concerning Mohammed's - Allah's laws:

What went wrong with Allah? Was it an overbearing cruel parent (before the Big Bang) who ruled with absolute terror? Was it the implied deceit of his War-covenant of Islam, where "war is deceit", so any just inquiry into those deceits are punishable… just for asking? The penalty is death? And it doesn't stop there, for then there are Hell fires? Is that why reasonable criticism of his Koran is absolutely forbidden, as 'irrational' and halal, because it would disclose his schizophrenic condition? 'Obey in total submission' is what an abusive parent demands of his helpless children, so a Muslim under Sharia has no choice but to obey, or punishments are severe (stonings, lashing, amputations, beheadings, etc.), as Allah does not love any dissenting opinions or disrespect. That is insulting to Allah, with guarantees of death and Hell fire, preceded by lashing rage and hate. So what's wrong with Allah's laws? Just because he wants everybody on the whole planet to obey his universal principles of abuse and deceit, the Sharia, means anyone who challenges Allah is marked for death, Hell fires, rage, hate? This is Allah's 'religion of peace' in its raw form, where mind numbing 'deceit' rules without question, so the brain shuts down, and criticism cowers in fear.

Let's stop beating around the bush about Allah's laws. They are the product of a schizophrenic mind (Mohammed's mind) that shuts out rational reason, destroys personal incentive, abrogates personal responsibility, supersedes human freedoms (with total submissive obedience), negates personal conscience, hates criticism (also hates humor, music, the arts, feminine beauty), hates equality, and demands slave-like worship that mandates perpetual war against those (infidels) who fight his schizo-deceits. Then he dumps on them, so they suffer continuously with wars, disasters, massive oppression, famine? Bad medicine, but that's Sharia, Allah's covenant with his minions of Islam. Where does that fit into the covenant between Man and God in the Bible? Or with our safeguarded human rights in the Constitution? Allah has an army of 1.2 billion 'believers' who are ready to carry out his mission of conquest and subjugation for his schizo- 'religion'…. Not on these shores, not in the land of Freedom. Not in the 21st century.

Is this what the University of London wants to celebrate on Christmas? Have they actually read the Koran? Do they know of Taqiyya? Have they found evidence of the Golden Rule in Islam? Is there reciprocity of Islamic institutions reading from the Bible? Is there any evidence of human equality, Universal Human Rights, or freedom of thought, freedom of worship, or perhaps freedom to marry whom one pleases without threats or murder, in their moral equivalence within the Koran? What about slavery? What about raping female captives? What about killing apostates? What about death threats to anyone questioning or criticizing Islam? What about the call for Sharia law, as 'state within a state', to be planted in the Western world? Have they read what they should know? Or are they deceived by the 'religion of peace'? How about Jew hatred?

They should do better due diligence beforehand, so not to appear so pathetically clueless of who they are representing this Day of Christ. There is still so much to learn...

For anyone interested the Hartford Seminary anniversary crscent logo is posted here:

http://xeriscapist.blogspot.com

I believe the "crescent" in Hartford Seminary's logo is supposed to represent a portion of the globe, perhaps indicating an interest in global ministry rather than capitulation to Islam.

As said earlier, Islam is anti many things we of the West value.

Islam is anti-democracy, anti-man made law, anti-reason, anti-beauty, anti-feminine sensitivity, anti-spirituality, anti-reason, anti-love. If God is love, then Islam is anti-God. Islam is anti-God. Is this 'anti-ism' what we want to honor in the 21st century? An anti-religion of the primitive 7th century? No! Absolutely NO!!!

The Covenant between Man and God was fulfilled in Jesus, not in some anti-prophet of some primitive tribalism. You want to honor God's love in your Christmas celebration? Then, University of London, you know what to do.

As an atheist I'm no lover of any religion but like many of your religious commentators I am digusted by this ignorant mindless stupidity on the part of these clergy. My stomach churns at these people in the Christian church in Britain yet again rolling over on the floor so that hate filled violent savages can yet again piss in their faces. No wonder the churches are emptying - to be a Christian in Britain now is to belong to a religion that actively promotes a system that will destroy it and if neccessary kill those who resist.
