Indeed. It defies imagination that a secretive group holed up in a meticulously controlled compound in close proximity to the Pakistani military never made them wonder who their neighbors were. Panetta's observations echo what he said after the bin Laden raid in May: either the Pakistanis were incompetent, or complicit, though Panetta now seems to be leaning more toward the latter assessment.
"Pakistan knew where Bin Laden was all along, Leon Panetta admits as he reveals intelligence source for Osama raid," by David Baker for the Daily Mail, January 28:
Pakistan officials must have known that terror chief Bin Laden was holed up in a remote compound in Abbottabad, claims Pentagon chief Leon Panettta. The Defence Secretary has publicly hit out at the Pakistani government who he says 'must have had some sense' of Osama Bin Laden's whereabouts.
He said he remains convinced they must have known someone of interest was hiding out in the safe-house in an interview for CBS's '60 Minutes', but added he has no proof.
The explosive interview, to be broadcast tomorrow, also saw Panetta acknowledge for the first time that Pakistani doctor Shakil Afridi had provided key information about the former Al Qaeda frontman's whereabouts.
Afridi ran a vaccination program for the CIA to collect DNA and verify Bin Laden's presence in the hideout and Panetta confessed he is 'very concerned' for the doctor who has been charged by Pakistan with treason.
Since the May 2 attack on Bin Laden's compound, last year, Pakistani leaders have continued to deny they had any idea Bin Laden was staying in the city.
This is despite revelations that he had been hiding at the site for as long as five years.
For months the CIA knew of his presence there and spied on him from its own top-secret safe-house next door to the terror leader's fortified compound, before Navy Seals were sent in. [...]Shortly after the raid security forces announced they had arrested 40 people in Abbottabad, suspected of having connections to Osama Bin Laden.
This gave rise to growing accusations the Pakistani government must have been aware he was using the base as a safe house, given the network of support he had there....
I'm hoping to find a more appropriate place to put this later, but you are not going to believe it:

Brilliant, Leon. You can't keep your stupid mouth shut to give Afridi some shred of deniability so he has some slight hope that he can get through this with his life.
So, now with confirmation that you just haaaaad to give to reward your media minions for making Chicago Jesus out to be a warrior he most certainly is not, Afridi is a dead man walking.
... and the horse you rode in on, Leon,
I wouldn't be too concerned...Most Christians already use King James or some other acceptable version...I can't imagine who, besides a few Mahoundians, would be interested in this bias version...It will soon go out of print due to lack of interest...
I'm watching you watching me watching them, and they are watching us...With all this watching going on, Binnie escaped detection...Someone was not watching fast enough...
CGW-- thanks. I'm posting the Yahoo story they linked.
I didn't. You couldn't make stuff like that up, could you?
CBS trailer for "60 minutes" Def Sec interview
"I'm very concerned about what the Pakistanis did with this individual...who in fact helped provide intelligence that was very helpful with regards to this operation," says Panetta. "He was not in any way treasonous towards Pakistan...Pakistan and the United States have a common cause here against terrorism...
- I'm sure that's true /sarc
Pakistan "Dawn"
Panetta told CBS’s ”60 Minutes,” in a profile to be broadcast on Sunday, that Shakil Afridi helped provide intelligence for the raid on bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad.
Afridi ran a vaccination program for the CIA to collect DNA and verify bin Laden’s presence in the compound. He has since been charged by Pakistan with treason. Panetta said he is ”very concerned” for the doctor.
- Perhaps a little more than "concern" is warranted.
Leon Panetta is just saying what everybody knows must've been the case. He's a dhimmwit who's just found the light switch.
Clown!
Leon Panetta is an empty suit. The idiot is in cahoots with the pakis and the rest of the mahounds.
Were I a US citizen I would be demanding that Leon Panetta be investigated for treason. This empty vessel has guaranteed that Pakistanis will no longer take the risk. Examine his finances. That is what sunk Capone.
I don't see how what Leon divulged amounts to finding the light switch. Having worked undercover for years, I know one thing: you never ever burn a source. You always protect them, to the point of moving them from dangerous places to safe places.
The fucking morons in this regime are a threat to the entire free world. They could have denied that Afridi was their inside guy/snitch and demanded his release. Now, he's subject to whatever bullshit treason laws the Pakis have on their books.
OT
Hello undaunted:
I wrote this poem and dedicated it to you (whether you like it or not and whether there is too much projection) because you, your material, and website were the inspiration. You stike me as being of "The Last Man Standing" class.
Undaunted
Forbid that I so hold life as to become a dhimmi,
Traitor to man, mind, light, and the one Creator.
Shamed by those of iron will, the few undaunted
By faceless slaves of a lesser god, the Devil Allah.
Pakistan was just providing hospitality to a fellow Muslim. That's what you do. Whatever you do, don't help or befriend the kafir. It's in the Qur'an.
Duh.
"Panetta acknowledge for the first time that Pakistani doctor Shakil Afridi had provided key information about the former Al Qaeda frontman's whereabouts."
So Afridi is sent to the torture house. What are you going to do about that Leon?
Leon have just signed a "Kill Afridi" petition - he is a first rate moron.
Thank you, Pokermutt. It's an honor to receive your poem and the sentiment in it. May God bless and protect you in the battles you wage in this war.
Sincerely...
As the learned writer Salman Rushdie concluded, and we all know: PAKISTAN SUCKS!
