Historic shift in U.S. foreign policy: Obama seeks ties with Muslim Brotherhood

Reaching out in friendship to a group dedicated in its own words to "eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within." "Overtures to Egypt’s Islamists Reverse Longtime U.S. Policy," by David D. Kirkpatrick and Steven Lee Myers in the New York Times, January 3 (thanks to all who sent this in):

CAIRO — With the Muslim Brotherhood pulling within reach of an outright majority in Egypt’s new Parliament, the Obama administration has begun to reverse decades of mistrust and hostility as it seeks to forge closer ties with an organization once viewed as irreconcilably opposed to United States interests.

The administration’s overtures — including high-level meetings in recent weeks — constitute a historic shift in a foreign policy held by successive American administrations that steadfastly supported the autocratic government of President Hosni Mubarak in part out of concern for the Brotherhood’s Islamist ideology and historic ties to militants.

The shift is, on one level, an acknowledgment of the new political reality here, and indeed around the region, as Islamist groups come to power. Having won nearly half the seats contested in the first two rounds of the country’s legislative elections, the Brotherhood on Tuesday entered the third and final round with a chance to extend its lead to a clear majority as the vote moved into districts long considered strongholds.

The reversal also reflects the administration’s growing acceptance of the Brotherhood’s repeated assurances that its lawmakers want to build a modern democracy that will respect individual freedoms, free markets and international commitments, including Egypt’s treaty with Israel....

This type of decision is why the Obamanation who sits in the Whitehouse oval office is an abomination. When the Mo Bros have their majority they will impose their apartheid sharia law on the Coptic peoples who will be destroyed, thanks to the Obamanation who refuses to advocate for them.

To the extent the Obama Administration is foolish enough to develop ties with the Muslim Brotherhood, then to this extent it can become another major area of disagreement between Obama the candidate and whoever gets the Republican nomination for President. Of course, this would be entirely lost on Ron Paul, but thankfully he has almost zero chance of becoming the Republican nominee though his narcissism could lead him to develop a third-party candidacy which could assure that the Anointed One, aka the Clueless One, gets another four years, a prospect which is dreadful to even contemplate.

folks,
if this is not TREASON then, what **is**???
i have to tiptoe a delicate line as to how to phrase what i wish to say...but i think that we have rreached a situation which must be dealt with, with what pokermutt called on another thread, "This existential emergency can only be dealt with by emergency ethics."

the muslim in the w.h. must go!

obama is evil for moving ahead to form an alliance with these barbarians ...

Stand with Israel! Nobama 2012!

Correction ...

Stand with Israel and the USA! Nobama 2012!

dear champ,

about obama's 'evilness':
yes he is moving forward to form an alliance with the mb...
remember the scorpion that was helped by the foolish frog to cross the river... and stung it...because, he could not help it...for he was a scorpion...

are we to be surprised by his actions?
i say no. not at all.
as a matter of fact they become almost predictible.

indeed, he was taught for 20 years to say 'god damn amerika!' and not 'god bless america'...

husein zero MUST go, as well as the rest of the traitors and quislings that slither around him.

Does ANYONE still harbor the delusion that Barack Barry Hussein Obama or Davis or Whatever is NOT a Muslim? Or at the very least some "black muslim" hybrid dedicated to surreptiously aiding the master plans of the "bruthas", be they Nation of Islam or Muslim Brotherhood. thephoenix has it right: If someone with sufficient stones is elected this November there would be no lack of evidence to charge the outgoing POTUS with high treason. However, better to wait until the "volcano explodes", because until the next irrefutable 9/11/01 level Islam-fueled catastrophe is perpetrated, the ostriches will continue to refuse to lift their heads and acknowledge the obvious.

"Some people believe Obama is a crypto-Muslim." Maybe he is a non-practicing Muslim. What difference does it make if Obama IS a Muslim(?) my radio talk show asked rhetorically in response to this story. Don't we embrace freedom of religion here in the United States?

"...the administration’s growing acceptance of the Brotherhood’s repeated assurances that its lawmakers want to build a modern democracy that will respect individual freedoms, free markets and international commitments, including Egypt’s treaty with Israel...."

Obama is a traitor to the American people "par-excellence"

This is why 2012 Presidential elections are going to so very important.

Can not say more than said by Counterjihad2012

"Obama is a traitor to the American people "par-excellence"

"The administration’s overtures — including high-level meetings in recent weeks — constitute a historic shift in a foreign policy held by successive American administrations that steadfastly supported the autocratic government of President Hosni Mubarak in part out of concern for the Brotherhood’s Islamist ideology and historic ties to militants....."

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

"Militants" is the Times' euphemism for Hamas suicide bombers - those who blow themselves up, murdering innocent women and children; for the murderous Muslims who on 9/11 slit the throats of the flight attendants and pilots and flew the planes into the World Trade Center towers.

These freedom fighters are militants.

The NYSlimes is protected by the First Amendment, otherwise they would be more than deserving of the same charge. "The Obama administration has begun to reverse decades of mistrust and hostility as it seeks to forge closer ties with an organization once viewed as irreconcilably opposed to United States interests."

"Mistrust". "Hostility". Towards a gang of fanatic religious thugs whose goal is world domination by Islam. Can't imagine why there would be "mistrust" of or "hostility" towards that. Certainly not from this administration.

"Viewed as." No mention of the contents of the MB's own mission statement, to subjugate the US, the West and the rest of the world to Islam. "Once viewed." As they trample the last vestiges of freedom in Egypt into the Nile mud, to be replaced with the "freedom" of absolute obedience to Islam, they were "once viewed" as opposed to our interests.

The New York Times is the journalistic answer to a nickel whorehouse.

Got that, DHS monitors? Your Boss, who is rejoicing in the victories of Islamic "freedom fighters" who will proceed to form "governments" -- in their case, more like the tribal-elder gangs with which "tradition" they are so much more comfortable -- says the Muslim Brotherhood is nothing to concern your pretty little heads about. Time to go home and turn on "Dancing With the Stars", boys and girls.

"The reversal also reflects the administration’s growing acceptance of the Brotherhood’s repeated assurances that its lawmakers want to build a modern democracy that will respect individual freedoms, free markets and international commitments, including Egypt’s treaty with Israel...."

What could possibly go wrong?

I for one, lilredbird, still don't think of Obama as some kind of secret Muslim. To my knowledge neither does Robert Spencer. What I do think Obama is is an empty man, a man of superficial ideas, virtually all borrowed and virtually all wrong. He's probably modernistically gooey enough to think that all religions are good and that one can kinda', sorta' be a Christian while still following the teachings of the Buddha or a Jew who can see much worth in Islam or a Christian who can look upon Muslims as brethren. You know, muddled thinking along these lines.

But let's suppose for arguments's sake Obama really is a Muslim. How are his policies any different than if he weren't? His being a Muslim is almost academic because the man's left-wing ideology would lead him to the same inept policies, both domestically and internationally, that he has pursued from day one of his administration.

Oh, for the record, and I write this as a lawyer, there is zero chance Obama will, based on anything so far, ever be charged with treason by any House of Representatives. You can take this one to the bank. Remember, stupid policies don't equate to treasonous policies. Any President attempting contact with any group, including ones which are dedicated to the destruction of America as we know it, is fully within his rights as the Chief Executive to seek diplomatic initiatives short of conflict. If it were otherwise, than numerous Presidents reaching out for talks with the Soviet Union when it existed, this being a political entity which very openly said the United States of America's days were numbered and that Communism (Marxism) would eventually take over America, would themselves have been liable for charges of treason. In fact, calls for Obama's impeachment are counterproductive as well as unrealistic. It makes his opponents look rabid and uninformed and that only plays into Obama's hands. Much better to focus on defeating Obama this November rather than wasting time on endeavors that are a road to nowhere.

I wholly agree, the phoenix! :)

Two other points, one a correction. It should be "then numerous Presidents..." and not "than numerous Presidents." Stupid mistake on my part. Second, not only will no House of Representatives not impeach Obama, neither will an American court of law go after him on a treason charge based on anything he has done to date.

This bears repeating and should not be taken lightly. That is, take the man at his word:

"I consider it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear." -- Barack Obama, Cairo, June 2009.

The key is in how one defines "negative stereotype."

Thank you. That is all. Carry on.

Nice analysis there, in your comment of Jan 4, 2.35 pm, above.

Those phrases 'mistrust and hostility' and 'viewed as' were red flags for me, too, when I read the article.

The journalists at NYT need to read a book by a REAL journalist, John Roy Carlson, his 'Cairo to Damascus', chapters 4 'the Moslem (Black) Brotherhood' and 6 'World of the Koran: Islam Ueber Alles'. Carlson even scored an interview with - and got a photograph of! - Hassan Al-Banna, one of the main gang bosses in the Brotherhood, and grandfather of spin-doctor Tariq Ramadan. Carlson does not mince words: he calls Al-Banna one of the most loathsome men he had ever met in his life (and Carlson had high standards for loathsomeness - his previous book, 'Under Cover', had seen him penetrate the circles of antisemites and pro-Nazis in pre-World War II America.)

Here is Carlson's description of one of the founders of the Ikhwan.

"He approached us - a short, squat, ratty-faced man with puffed cheeks and fleshy nose. He was dressed in European clothes - a black pinpoint double-breasted suit - and wore an extra tall tarboosh, which gave him the illusion of added height. His thin beard, running from ear to ear, crawled up, then down his upper lip like an ugly black hirsute vine. His manner was mousy and furtive. His eyes, beadlike and deep-set, were like two dark slits across his face. We sat in the shade, under the shield showing the Koran above a pair of crossed swords.

"The Moorshid spoke with a pious look on his face, his head bent slightly to the right, hands folded meekly in his lap. I disliked him instantly and thoroughly. He was the most loathsome man I had yet met in Cairo".

I understand how Congress members could hold office for decades and make pronouncements, claimed as authoritative, without holding even the barest notion of nabi and calipha. In politics, substitution of personal understanding for deference, is bliss. In the current discourse - including here - the subject of islamic governance has absolutely no currency. |Hence, briefcase terrorists continue to work for a global islamist tyranny, and do so with limited opposition. Check out this article on the doble cara of Tariq Ramadan and the rest of his subversive criminals.

I have over 2 dozen books on "islamic governance." Unfortunately, nobody else can understand that seminal concept.

CAIRO — With the Muslim Brotherhood pulling within reach of an outright majority in Egypt’s new Parliament, the Obama administration has begun to reverse decades of mistrust and hostility as it seeks to forge closer ties with an organization once viewed as irreconcilably opposed to United States interests.
...............................

Has the Muslim Brotherhood done anything to reverse *its own* policies of hostility towards the United States and the rest of Dar-al-Harb?

What exactly has happened with the Muslim Brotherhood that indicates that regarding that organization as irreconcilably opposed to United States interests *has changed*? Or is the NYT just implying that we had the Muslim Brotherhood wrong all along?

I've always liked Jihad Watch's referring to this rag as the "New Duranty Times". I quote Robert Spencer from 2006:

Why do we call the New York Times the New Duranty Times? Because just as Pulitzer Prize-winning Times reporter Walter Duranty covered up the Stalin-created Ukrainian famine of the 1930s, so today the Times is missing the biggest story of our age, the global jihad, preferring to pretend that there is no such global movement, or that if there is, it is insignificant.

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2006/01/new-duranty-times-notices-the-danish-cartoon-controversy.html

Has anything changed in the past six years with the New York Times? It has not.

Other than the fact that Islam maintains that the children of a Muslim father are Muslim, I know of no inculpating evidence that Obama is a Muslim. Certainly the fact that Obama has, on many occasions, maintained that he is a Christian counters any contention that he is a "secret Muslim" unless one wants to accept that Obama is engaging in taqiyya big time.

Quite frankly, I'm sick of all this silly "Obama is really a Muslim" crap. To date, Robert Spencer doesn't think Obama is a Muslim, and, as I already indicated, respecting policy decisions by Obama, it is of no real relevancy whether he is a Muslim because his policy directives have been inimical to traditional American interests, to Israel and to the Judeo-Christian foundation of America, be he left-wing ideologue, secret Muslim or both.

Time to get off the "Obama is a Muslim" stuff and simply address his destructive policies regardless of what motivates him. In fact, pushing the "Obama is a Muslim" just feeds into liberal bashing of conservative thought. Yep, time to move on.

Yes, Rialto22, and there is more.

Khaled Hamza confirmed that several members of the Muslim Brotherhood’s parliamentary bloc received official invitations to attend Obama’s Cairo speech.

There also appears to be various links to the Brotherhood within the administration. Rashad Hussain, Obama’s special envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference, has a background affiliated with the MB. Dalia Mogahed, speech writer and chief advisor on Islamic affairs for Barack Obama, also has a history with the MB. Azizah al-Hibri, appointed by Obama to the Commission on International Religious Freedom, is a defender of Islamic law and professor and served on the advisory board for Mohammed Alamoudi of the American Muslim Council. Mr. Alamoudi is now in prison serving a 23 year sentence for his deeds in the Holy Land Foundation terror funding scheme. ISNA President Ingrid Mattson, a regular at Obama's annual Ramadan dinners.

Then we have the Egyptian diplomat who complained about the Egyptian uprisings being coordinated with the U.S. State Department and Obama administration. The US was thought to be aiding Mohamed ElBaradei, an opposition leader and Muslim Brotherhood ally.

Then we have Libya...

You get the idea.

Wellington (and Lilredbird and NY_conservative):

I agree with Wellington that Barack Obama is not a secret Muslim. Barack Obama is simply Generation 2 of the American New Left. His whole underpinning is that the USA is an evil, capitalist, imperialist, racist monster that needs to get in line the idea of "social justice" as conceived by people like Saul Alinsky. And, I will add that his ideas about Islam are a mix of the following: (1) a childhood impression left when he was the adopted son of Lolo Soetaro and (2) the generally positive view of "Islam" as an "other" to [mostly] white, Christian America found among alienated African-Americans. The second viewpoint is one shared by Jesse Jackson, who continues to act as a Christian "reverend".

But I'll also add that I suspect that Obama's association with the United Church of [?]Christ[?] was probably also mostly a way to get an entree into the political life of African-American Chicago.

Obama probably lacks any and all appreciation at all for Islamic theology or doctrine; save perhaps for a dash of interfaith pablum. He's perhaps a bit like a young punk I ran into in the hallways of our school, who was so "righteous" he wouldn't be caught without his kufi, but didn't have the foggiest about what the shehada was.

The average Obama-ite, and probably "The One" as well is steeped in the Left-wing ideology that "if only the US repented of having its own national interest and consistently followed the sensibilities of some Belgian SD Judge" all would be well and good between the USA and the rest of the world. On the positive side, there's probably a real desire for peace, justice, brotherhood, liberty, equality, fraternity, and general material well-being at the bottom of this belief. It's perhaps an equal mixture of Rousseau and Marx. However, this same mindset cannot fathom that there is much of the world where talk of "liberation" is only a mask for a savage lust for absolute power, and where the system of civil liberties enshrined in the US Constitution is seen as dangerous anarchy. But every so often, this mindset gets its moments of lucidity, such as when in the aftermath to Nixon's visit a large number of erstwhile campus Maoists decided that China stank after actually visiting the place; or when it could no longer be hidden that Democratic Kampuchea was democidal; or when the toppling of Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi morphs into Khomeini-ism rather than social democracy; or when 9/11 happens.

Still, Lilredbird and NY_conservative, Uncle Cephas agrees that the Obama administration isn't good for the country. Understanding does not mean agreement. Then again, I don't think Wellington was actually defending Obama, either.

Following only the devout Muslim's interpretation of the religion of the child, I have to say Obama is a very, very, poor excuse for a Muslim. Not devout, doesn't follow all the little halals and harams of daily direction, and a wife with bare arms and a behind with the bumptious bravado of a billboard. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

He's just not a good anything, frankly. Except America-hater. He's got that in spades.

The conjoinment appears imminent: The muslim brotherhood and the obama administration on the elimination of Israel, followed then by submission to islam of America under imam barak hussein. Start growing those beards, boys. Maybe you girls will have a choice of colors for your burqas. And, buy stock in the carpet and throw rugs industry.

A law degree is not needed to see this is wrong, just needed to write excuses to justify his actions.

And the proof is on the way, stick around.

Sorry to report this chaps, but the UK newspapers have reported ( with much glee, I have to say ) that the muslim in the White House has a fighting fund of ONE BILLION DOLLARS to ensure his re-election. When I see the changes over the last few years in America, I grieve for the Land of the Free.

The UK is set for Civil War in a few years - wish us luck.

Treason.
Impeach and jail.

That should tell us all something...

dear kepha,

just to clarify a point. we are in agreement, i hope, that the title of this thread is the cherry on the sundae.
to date, either by edicts issued by him (barry) or through his minions (holder, axelrod, emanuel etc) all his actions, and sometimes lack of actions (green revolution in iran)it was a blatant, in your face, disregard for american values from a-z.
to quote your scriptures, "by their fruit you will recognize them"
yes. actions speak louder than words!
i would direct the same harsh criticizm towards michael bloomberg, or david axelrod...
the point being criticized above all is the *actions* of this man which seems to be fairly successful at destroying america and the west from within...
if we agree on *this*, him being a muslim (which *technically* he ***is***, on account of his father)or not, is pretty much irrelevant.
as winnoceros pointed out, "He's just not a good anything, frankly. Except America-hater. He's got that in spades."
i look at the big picture and try not toget bogged down by nitpicking details.
it is impossible for all of us who comment on jw to be in full agreement 100% of the time on all issues...
it is just not realistic.
i suggest therefore not to concentrate on those semantics that we are not in agreement but rather on the unifying factors.
so i think it is safe to conclude, that one way or another, as champ said it "Stand with Israel and the USA! Nobama 2012!"

I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you!

John Adam and all of america founding father would approve of our current president action with recognite the Muslim Brotherhood which will be than part of the next government of Egpty as our founding father recognite the Ottoman Empire as than legal government and they also recognite Islam as than religion which is valid.

I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you!

oh god, it's you again?
why can't you let your neighbour's 6 year old kid read your gibberish first, and then, write it up for you. it would surely sound better and make more sense...
just a friendly piece of advise....

Wow! The Obama Administration and The Muslim Brotherhood....I don't know who the enemy is? Perhaps they both are.

The answer is Novermber 2012...new president, new attitude, new direction!

Comments in N.Y. Times are officially closed for this story. You know they have to protect their little Leftist hero as he bungles his way through mistake after mistake.

Thoughtful and well written comment as usual, Kepha. I am in agreement with all you wrote, including your assumption that I was in no way defending Obama. My chief points were that stupid policy doesn't mean treason and focusing on Obama's religious status is largely, if not entirely, a waste of time and actually will often play into the hands of Obama supporters. Focusing on Obama's ineptitude, of which there is a great deal, is key. But I have no doubt that some will persist here at JW on the "Obama is a Muslim" theme and, what is even more futile, an "impeach Obama" mantra. Hope you and yours are doing well, Kepha.

With respect, Islofob IS-1, I was in no way justifying Obama's actions. I was merely pointing out that what Obama has done to date doesn't stand up to any treason charge. Not even close. As for proof being on the way, this contention of yours in and of itself doesn't constitute proof of any kind. Surely you know this. I share your distaste for the Obama Administration but pursuing dead ends rather than focusing on Obama's many counterproductive policies is simply not the route to go.

I agree, Alan West but not for another 5 years. Rats!!!
That said, we must remember that Obama's mama was a lover of Muslim men as long as they were moderate. So that is what he heard and saw in the 60's and 70's. Plus remember how cool was Denzel Washington as Malcom X. What's not to be fond of Islam when presented in that light. That's who we have to deal with.

I was just remembering what was said in Washington in the early 19th century when the Barbary (Muslim) pirates were raiding out ships in this same part of the Mediterranean and demanding payment for safe passage : "Millions for defense but not one cent for tribute!"

Egypt is the largest recipient of U.S. aid in the Middle East. If the Muslim Brotherhood takes over, are we going to continue this aid? To our sworn enemies? Might this not be considered "tribute" ?

My, how times change.

Obama's Leftist alliance, and what he terms his duty as president, is to the party and the party's alliances (like the Muslim world), not, as his oath of office requires, with the Constitution and Bill of Rights, let alone U.S. citizens.

In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar, the Egyptian, combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic, and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth. Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust, by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE.

Just in case there's any doubt.

Wellington;
My post was made without reading yours, I was refering to Obama's background as a lawyer, and the excuses that will follow his actions to justify his position.

And as to the proof, I have no doubt it will surface, when and where are the only unknowns.

Your posts are clear, and thoughful, and I have no complaints against lawyers doing the job they were trained for, other than the idea of guiding a country like a trial case. Many lawyers are members of our leadership, and look at where it has got us all.

In any event, no attack was made with your post as the basis, many times I can not even find my own old posts here. I would have used your user name to address what you wrote had I issues with your position.

Wellington, I couldn't agree more.

As evidenced by the info in this article, there's enough to dislike about Obama's policies without having to entertain any paranoid conspiracy theories.

Thanks for you reply, Islofob IS-1. I did think that you had addressed me because in my first post above I mentioned that I was a lawyer. My mistake. And please know that even if I had been correct in this, I was not offended. I only wanted to clear up why I wrote what I did.

BTW, I agree with you that there are too many lawyers in government. In fact, there are too many lawyers period. America is the most litigious nation in history. And a significant number of lawyers are big supporters of the Democratic Party and have blocked desperately needed tort reform. The ABA, which I left years ago because I came to see it as nothing more than an arm of the Democratic Party, has been dismal in supporting common sense legal reform.

Well, we are certainly in agreement on Obama. Four years of him will be quite enough. Take care.

What utter rot. This is either bald-faced Taqiyya, or profound ignorance—hard to tell in DoI's case.

In signing the Treaty of Tripoli in 1796, the second American President, John Adams, wrote: "The United States has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Muslims."

This is not as "multicultural" as it sounds. The United States had suffered almost two decades of having her shipping seized and her crews enslaved by the Muslim Barbary pirates.

This vile aggression was completely unprovoked—it was based entirely on the Muslim conviction that if Infidels failed to pay "tribute"—another form of Jizya—that Muslims had the right to simply take what they wanted. Moreover, this was based on *religious* convictions which are an intrinsic part of Islam.

Before the American Revolution, our shipping in the Mediterranean was protected—to a point, at least—by British payment of tribute. After the break with England, we were on our own—and Muslim demands for tribute *outstripped our entire GDP* at the time.

Finally, we decided to build a navy and put a stop to these Muslim depredations. After our actions, the British and French decided to stop paying tribute and ransom and push back themselves.

*This* is the context in which the Treaty of Tripoli was signed—that we made if clear that as long as Muslims refrained from visiting unprovoked violence on Americans, that we would refrain from continuing to *kick their asses*.

Not exactly the slavering "respect for Islam" that DoI is trying to impute to our founding fathers...
