What would it mean if Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz?

What would it mean? Nothing good.

If Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. would take all necessary measures to prevent this.

These words were discussed in almost all the meetings that I had with politicians, journalists and ordinary people during my recent week-long visit to Jerusalem in the State of Israel.

We all were so impressed by the statements of State Department and Pentagon officials who seemed for a time to have forgotten about the Iranian threat but were now apparently waking up to what might happen if Iran blocks the Strait and finds a loophole in U.S. and E.U. sanctions.

There is a view that the Iranians themselves may refuse to supply petroleum and petroleum products to these countries. As you know, Ahmadinejad is preparing Iran for a long period of complete international isolation, if sanctions can be enforced against Iran. Also, Iranian authorities have established excellent relations with some countries in the Caucasus, and unfortunately one of them is my homeland Georgia, which has a general non-visa policy with Iran, not to mention close economic relations, which came about in recent years.

Iran will compete with Turkey, but they also have common interests and enemies in the form of the State of Israel and the Kurdish rebels, against whom the military in these countries conduct joint military operations.

In 2012, a new railway connection, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars, was built between Azerbaijan and Turkey. It runs through Georgia, changing the strategic balance in the region, and you will agree with me that the new balance is not in favor of the U.S. and the EU. For those who do not know that, I can further inform you that Azerbaijan shares borders with Iran. The Ayatollahs have always had a plan to swallow Azerbaijan, as the population of that country is Shi'ite, although currently there is no active jihad movement there. In addition, a large percentage of Iran's population is ethnic Azeris. As for Turkey, Erdogan with his anger at the West and program to destroy Turkish secularism is no less a threat than a terrorist and fanatic such as Ahmadinejad.

In addition, any increase in oil prices plays into the hands of jihadists and their financiers. They are very pleased to be investing more money in the business world in order to finance Jihad.

When I heard about the intentions of Ahmadinejad to block the Strait of Hormuz if the U.S. and E.U. imposed sanctions against Iran, I was reminded of a meeting I attended in Grozny, Chechnya, in June or July 1998. The vice-premier of the Chechen Republic, Turpal Ali Atgiriyev, and people who were unknown to me were talking about the road linking Tbilisi, Itumkale and Grozny. Some guests were talking in Arabic, others in the Turkish language. Since Atgiriyev did not understand these languages, the conversation was being translated into Russian.

I do not remember all the details, but I do remember one point. It was about the smuggling of goods produced in Islamic countries (Turkey, Iran, Saudi, Jordan, Pakistan) through Georgia to Chechnya, and from there to Russia and other European countries. I can only add that this road was funded by Osama bin Laden.

Despite the sanctions against Iran and its oil industry, Iran does not need to block the Strait of Hormuz. Presumably Ahmadinejad can simply raise the price of oil, bringing in extra dollars to sponsor Jihad. Europe cannot abandon oil. Iran always finds a loophole for the export of oil among friends and neighbors such as Russia, Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan.

A major problem posed by Iran is its nuclear program, which is still ongoing and poses a real threat to us all. When the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, the Clinton administration recognized it. The Obama administration is making contact with the "Muslim Brotherhood" in Egypt and recognizes the jihadists in Libya. Maybe they are waiting for the day when Iran finally creates a nuclear bomb to welcome Iran into the nuclear club. Israel is being advised to begin negotiations with those who want to wipe it off the face of the earth.

What would happen if Iran blocked the Straits of Hormuz? Undoubtedly, in the short run the price of oil would skyrocket.

But is that a bad thing??

Saudi Arabia has a policy of wanting to keep the price at around 80 USD a barrel. Why? Because they KNOW that the higher the price, the less the amount of willing customers... with a higher oil price, will so many people want to fly on that holiday to the Carribean or Seychelles? Will they want to keep commuting to work by car by themselves, when they could take a few fellow passengers with them? Well, it may even mean new business opportunities for carpooling websites - and for Jihadwatchers, a chance to educate their fellow passengers about the threat of Islam! Citizens who, thanks to the skyrocketing oil price caused by the Islamic Republic of Iran, might just be more willing to talk about Jihad...

And what will the reaction of industry and governments be? Organisations who, above all, do not like RISK, and keep well away from it... how will they react to the risk of even more oil blockades in the future? Could this be a turning point to drive us away from an oil-dependent economy? Or at least towards oil self-dependency, via reduced consumption and exploitation of new sources, such as the Arctic, and tar sands in the US and Canada?

A new crisis can mean a new opportunity...

My message to President Ahmadinejad - go for it!

If iran is acting out with such assertiveness now, imagine when and if they can back their aspirations with arms which will make the US and others get on their knees?
Prepare.

One day soon, we will wake up to the Newsreaders announcing that Iran has tested it's first Nuclear bomb.

The world will change forever.

The words 'Islamic Nuclear Power' are the kind of which you never want to hear uttered in the same sentence. It's bad enough that Pakistan has them.

The Islamic Republic of Iran will essentially be untouchable and free to influence all manner of issues. Imagine this virulently anti-West, SCUM Muslim nation having free reign....

The excellent state of Israel must do what our DISGUSTINGLY weak and spineless Western "leaders" won't: Strike Iran with ALL resources and with MAXIMUM ferocity.

The Middle East is now an Islamist CESS-PIT. We must not allow these nations to become Nuclear, WHATEVER the cost.

If Iran blocks the Strait of Hormuz, the US should back up the blockade by blocking the Gulf of Oman. So while Kuwaiti, Qatari, Bahreini & Emirati ships won't be able to pass, neither will Iranian ships - they hardly have any major ports west of those straits.

But this blockade would be good in the sense that it would force Saudi Arabia to build pipelines to the Red Sea to fill tankers from there, while the other Gulf dwarves - Kuwait, Qatar and UAE will be forced to build pipelines to Oman, from where it will be shipped. That would be expensive and while it will take its toll on Gas prices, it will also force these countries to spend money on something that they'd otherwise have spent on dawa and jihad financing elsewhere in the world

Iran has been preparing to be totally self-sufficient in case the US and EU place sanctions on them and/or invade Iran.

This website, jihadwatch, is extremely biased and seem to enjoy inventing "facts" that are far from true. Ahmadinejad is not a terrorist. He is an extremely intelligent president who wants nuclear power for his country. They have enriched uranium but it is only pure enough for nuclear power. They are nowhere near the purity required for a nuclear warhead, even a small one is beyond their grasp.

Iran is a peaceful country. They would be a great ally and they are only mad at Israel because the Israelis invaded their land and pushed them in to Iran. The Iranians are the real, original, Israelis.

Imagine if the Chinese came to the United Stated and forced all Americans to leave their country and live in Mexico. Would you not be furious, wanting revenge? I know for a fact I would hate them and do everything in my power to get our country back.

The skyrocketing oil price will be caused by the US invading Iran and/or placing sanctions on Iran. It will be entirely the US president's fault. Ahmadinejad is no terrorist, he is a great president trying to aid his country by converting nuclear power, not nuclear warheads.

It will be a bad thing. Carpooling is not necessary, nor does it help anything. Driving doesn't cause global warming, global warming is a natural phenomenon that occurs every so-many-thousand years. The exact opposite happens as well, "global cooling". The earth goes through phases of warmer and colder temperatures, that's been happening since the earth was created.
