Bosnia: Sarajevo education minister resigns after threats: "Abandon Allah and his religion and the hand of the faithful will get you"

Educational reforms ruling that religious ed grades would no longer count in students' overall scores: haram. Threatening to murder the person responsible for these reforms: halal. "Islamist Death Threats Force Out Bosnia Minister," by Elvira Jukic for BIRN, February 14 (thanks to Twostellas):

After Sarajevo canton's education minister, Emir Suljagic, resigned last week citing repeated threats to his security, slogans in his support have appeared in the streets of the capital.

Slogans declaring support for the former Education Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Emir Suljagic, appeared on February 13 on sites around the capital, reading, “We are all Emir S.”, “Dignity Rather Than a Chair” and “Watch Out, a Bullet”.

Suljagic resigned on Friday last week, citing death threats to his family from hardline Muslims opposed to educational reforms allegedly downplaying the importance of religion.

On Wednesday, Suljagic received a death threat at his home in the form of a short letter and a 7.32 caliber bullet.

Abandon Allah and his religion and the hand of the faithful will get you," the message read. Two days after, Suljagic sent the cantonal assembly his resignation letter.

Suljagic said he was not ready to submit to such pressures. In a letter published on Friday on the cantonal government website he said his only remaining option was to quit.

“Those hiding behind religion to threaten me and my family are misusing religion to keep the power and privileges they undeservingly enjoy,” Suljagic said in the letter.

Friday's resignation was not Suljagic's first since he took the ministerial post in January 2011.

Pressures began building on Suljagic last year when he ruled that religious education scores in primary schools would no longer be relevant to pupils' average scores at the end of the year.

That act was attacked by Muslim clergy as an attempt to abolish or downgrade religious education in primary schools.

The head of the Islamic community in Bosnia, Mustafa Ceric, publicly asked Suljagic to withdraw the decision, which he refused to do....

Sarajevo, again. .Uh-oh.

Perhaps not so different from the U.S., where one can leave college as an unlearned, unemployable "graduate" with a "degree" in Urban Studies, Feminist Studies, Black Studies, Chicano Studies, etc.
Imagine the storm that would break over any college dean or president who suggested that hours spent in these courses not be counted in one's grad-point average!

In pakistan, students who are non-muslim are also expected to pass muslim religious education tests if they want to get into medical school.
How unfair is that?

And if European countries did that to muslim students (forcing them to pass christian religious education tests to move ahead in college), all hell would break loose.

Alas—it appears that Emir Suljagic doesn't understand how Muslims regularly "misuse" their religion to threaten and murder Infidels and those—like himself—who they deem "insufficiently Islamic".

Too damn right it would, I'm a Pagan myself.

“Abandon Allah and his religion and the hand of the faithful will get you,"

Reminds me of the famous cartoon "Believe it or Else!" by Abdullah Aziz

We were backing the wrong side when we intervened in Yugoslavia, weren't we?

The fact that muz are more equal than others is of secondary import to the fact of denial of same.

Since 9-11, we have been subsidizing jihad terror. Seculars and religious minorities have received nothing but misery from the last 2 Presidents.

Thank Billary for Bosnia and Kosovo and Taliban.

Bosnia has had a lot of problems when during the ethnic cleansing (genocide of Bosnian Muslims and Croats by the Serbian thugs) from 1992-1995 Europe stood by and did NOTHING to protect Bosnian civilians from those criminals. UN troupes watched when 15,000 Bosnian men and boys were taken to be slaughtered by the Mladic's thugs and buried in a mass grave in Srebrenica.

Therefore, Islamists from various Arab countires invited themselves in to defend Bosnian Muslims, who during Tito in Yugoslavia are not religions at all (except some old people).

These Jihadists liked living in Bosnia, many married Bosnian women and now want to introduce sharia, which most Bosnians despise. I have friends in Bosnia who are very unhappy with having these vile guys around their cities and civilized societies.

@vlasta molak, I'm no historian, so could you enlighten me as to how the 'muslim' thing made it to Bosnia in the first place ?

Here's the short answer, Jim: Muslim conquests in the Balkans by the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Muslims ravaged south eastern Europe for centuries after capturing Constantinople in 1453 before they were finally stopped at the Gates of Vienna.

The Greeks and other Balkans fought for independence against the increasingly sclerotic Ottoman Empire in the 19th century. But Islam—and violent, supremacist Muslims—are still very much a factor there. In fact, Albania and now Kosovo are Muslim-majority, with all the predictable oppression of Infidels there.

I am *no* fan of Communism, but the Soviet Union and local Communists like Tito kept Islam on a short leash while they were in power. The democracies and other regimes which have followed have had trouble checking Islam—or, in many cases, even in realizing that it needs to be kept in check lest it take over.

Thanks, Graven, for the fill-in. . A Bosnian nominal-Muslim shaves my neck with a blade when I go get my haircuat. .and I let him draw the razor because he has earned my trust. .I won't embark on Eschatology with him until I'm out of the chair.
