The more things change, the more they stay the same. Coptic Pope Shenouda III warned in 1976: "There is a practice to convert Coptic girls to embrace Islam and marry them under terror to Muslim husbands."
This practice has reportedly intensified since the revolution. "Egypt’s Copts protest 'disappearance of girls'," by Mohamed Abdel Salam and Joseph Mayton for Bikya Masr, February 29:
CAIRO: A number of Egypt Coptic Christian protesters organized a demonstration on Tuesday in front of Parliament to protest what they called “the disappearance and abduction of Coptic girls,” where the families of the missing girls took part in the protest organized by the Association of Victims of Abduction and Enforced Disappearance.The protesters chanted “Where is the rule of law” and “no for the Islamization of minors”,”MPS, where are the rights of Copts?”
Protesters were expecting MP Mohammed Abu Hamed, a member of the Free Egyptians Party, to form a delegation and make a note and submit it to the parliament’s human rights committee concerning the disappearance of Coptic girls and to call for the rule of law to be applied.
In recent years, Coptic Christian advocacy groups have lambasted the Egyptian authorities for allegedly not forcing the return of Coptic girls to their families after they have allegedly been kidnapped by Muslim men. Police and media have reported scores of missing women over the past few years and many quickly return to their families without much explanation....
Bikya Masr shows its bias as the story continues, essentially blaming Coptic Christianity's prohibition on divorce for this phenomenon, blaming the bad old sexist priests and claiming Islam "liberates" the women. Would they dare make the equivalent claims about Islam?

Here is a deliberately unclear statement:
It suggests that these cases have been widely reported as well as these girls have been returned.
What is more true - is that Christian girls are virtually never returned - and the police will either force Christian family members to sign over their daughters or arrest family members, fathers and uncles, for breaking the children out of those places.

Sometimes you see articles where the Coptic Christians would explain something that would seem to make no sense. Once, there was an incident where the Christians had waited 9 years to finally gain permission to replace or repair the old dome church roof.
After a Muslim mob - probably in the 100's or so - showed up to throw stones at them - in the article the Copts went to great pains to explain how they needed the repairs on the dome roof - as it was 50 to 100 years old.
You got the feeling of their dhimmi status. The dome could fall and kill somebody, and secondly why do you have to wait 9 years to make a repair!!
They are trying to write it in a way that doesn't offend. Even though they got attacked and stoned.

I believe this article was written by a Muslim as well as a Christian - and suggests the real reason why Christian girls are kidnapped - or rather 'not' kidnapped but 'choose' a life with a total stranger and convert to Islam - because in their teenage years they are thinking strongly about the fact that in the Coptic Church one cannot divorce!!
One has to wonder - why it is that Christian and Hindu girls are taken - in the same way in Pakistan. Where strangely enough, Shari'a based laws are in effect there as well.
The article is written in a way to back up the Muslim supremacist position, and to make them feel better about completely ignoring - the plight of the Christians. There are kidnapping cases that appear all over the world - but never with this much impunity. There is clearly a breakdown in the law, when it comes to Egypt's non-Muslim citizens
They have the right to take a Christian /non-Muslim girl if they want - after which they are seen as Muslims. And the state doesn't get involved except to prevent these girls from leaving their Muslim capturers.
