Therefore I humbly beg you to consider channeling your energies into fighting the very real and present threat of islam. When we defeat the mad mullahs I will happily join you in attempting to curb the remaining excesses of the church. I would do exactly the same for all atheists, in fact Pat Condell and Thunderfoot are people I look up to. The new testament of the Bible DOES NOT ALLOW violence by a person or group against any other! God the Lord (WHO IS NOT Allah) says "Vengence is mine I will repay" The Lord Jesus said in no unmistakable words that His followers must love their neighbors and even their enemies and to good to those who peresecute them(Christians). All mention of the sword is by means of an allegory not a phyical sword( ie "sword of the spirit which is the Word of God"etc.) The only threats of violence in the gospels are referring to the end of the world when Jesus will return to punish the wicked unrepentant and save those who have been redeemed by His blood sacrifice for sin.
It is true that this gospel message was preverted in the past beginning with emperor Constantine until the printing press was invented by Gutteberg (1500's) and the Bible could be mass produced and the people began to have universal education to read (1800's) that the violence in Christianity was stopped. Anyone who committs violent acts in the name of Jesus is sinning against Him and disobeying His commands.
Islam on the other hand allows, even encourages violence against unbelievers apostates homosexuals women etc as a way to earn "good works" for carnal reward in their paradise.Hence the continue violence in Islam compared to Christianity.

Don't overlook the fact that it was Christians, for the first time in over a millennium, being allowed to read scripture in their own native tongue and the mass availability of scripture, due to the invention of the printing press, that led to the reformation. When the Bible is actually read and followed then things like the reformation happen. The Catholic Church had as its source of power not the teaching of the Bible, but rather almost complete ignorance of its teaching among the laity and a large majority of the priests as well. You cannot say the same for Islam. Where the Koran is read and its teaching put into practice, violence and oppression are inevitable.

Even if that passage is true, it's irrelevant. catholics and christians -and other religious people-, unlike muslims, have a lax interpretation of their religious texts, they even say and repeat that Jesus talked in parables and language that shouldn't be interpreted word by word, in fact... it's hard to find a catholic or a christian that has read the whole bible, muslims HAVE to read and learn the whole thing by memory if they study in a madrasa and all of them have to accept what's written in there and follow it word by word.

I said I agreed to a large extent the poster's comments about the church, but, as I also said, the church has moved on, while islam is still stuck in it's limited sixth century mindset of self righteous bigotry and unreasonable hatred.
Even if a Muslim has learned to parrot the Koran, it is in ancient Arabic. They understand it less than English speakers would understand Beowulf in the original. But Muslims get the essential message from their goatbeards--hate everything Western except the Westerners weapons which must be used against them. This is enough, I suppose, since Islam has no nuances.

I'm with greenpen on this. I am also an atheist and an ex-Christian. Having been on both sides of the ideological aisle I can tell you that we have much more in common with Christians than we realize.
Of course there are some issues we'll never agree on but Christians are not a threat to our civilization the way muslims are. This is not the time to bicker with one another, it is now time for all of us to put aside our differences and unite to defend our civilization.
All of us non-muslims, black, white, brown, jew christians, atheist, hindu, liberal, conservative, etc are infidels to the mainstream muslims. They don't care what we believe, in the end they will have us bow to their death cult as they do.
I also include genuinely peaceful muslims who oppose sharia law and jihad-they are on our side. In fact such muslims have been very instrumental in helping us hunt down muslim terrorists and also educating other non-muslims about the threat from Islam.
This is a global problem but first we must free our own nations from Islam and then help other countries to do the same.
We cannot do it alone, all of us must form community groups and stop the advance of Islam wherever it rears it's ugly head. We also have to create mass movements. I'm seeing positive signs this is occurring in America and Europe but we have a long way to go-much, much more still needs to be done.
Once again-we are all infidels, so let's put aside our differences and work together to defeat Islam so our children never have to face this evil dark ages barbaric fascist totalitarian death cult.

It would probably be fairer to say that Christians have committed far fewer terrorist acts, and none in the name of their religion. For example, an attack by a Basque separatist or a Puerto Rican nationalist is committed by a person who likely considers himself a Christian, but it's done for reasons having nothing to do with Christianity.
But the thousands of Moslem terrorist attacks have almost all been done in the name of their religion.
Dear Moe Hammed: The passage in Luke is a parable and similar passages are found in other gospels. It does indeed refer to the end of the world when Christ returns as King of kings. The nobleman refers to Jesus and the distant country refers to His asscention to heaven followed much later by His return to earth. The slaves and the minas refer to his followers using their gifts and resources to work for His kingdom while we are here on earth. The return of Christ will be very violent (unlike His first coming), but it will be Jesus Himself who dispenses out this punishment on the wicked. The book of Revalation chapter 19 describes this in geater detail. As for the "enemies" we are supposed to love just like our "neighbors", Jesus does not refer to any particular ethnic group. When the pharisees asked Jesus "Who is my neighbor " He told the parable of the good Samaritan who WAS NOT Jewish but a foreigner to the Jews. Likewise on the cross, Jesus said "Father forgive them because they know not what they do" was said to both the Jews AND the Romans who were there.

The problem with your argument is that Jesus was telling his followers a parable in which a nobleman travels to a distant country to obtain a kingship. Upon his return he does say, "Now as for those enemies of mine who did not want me as their king, bring them here and slay them before me."
Notice these words were those of the new king, not the storyteller, Jesus. According to Jesus' parable, this new king also said to his disgruntled workers: "You know that I am a hard man, taking what is NOT MINE and reaping what I have not planted." As I interpret the king's words, he was a despicable, vindictive, dishonorable nobleman who had little regard for justice. Those who opposed or displeased him were fit to be slayed. This is his point of view, not that of Jesus who was telling the story.
