The opposition leader Hassan al-Turabi has threatened Bashir with an "Arab Spring"-type revolution, but it is clear that such a revolution would reshuffle the deck, but would not change the cards where governance is concerned. Bashir has already announced his own intentions to impose more Sharia, as well as a plan of cultural and linguistic Arabization,
"Sudan: Islamists Warn Bashir Over Shariah Constitution," from AllAfrica, February 28 (thanks to Twostellas):
Khartoum — A coalition of radical Islamic groups in Sudan has threatened to unseat the country's President Omer Al-Bashir if he failed to heed demands for a constitution based on Shariah laws.Sudan's far-right and Islamist groups have been lobbying to have the country's 2005 Transitional Constitution replaced with an Islamic one after the mainly-Christian South Sudan seceded in July last year.
To that end, they formed the Islamic Constitution Front (ICF) and proposed the Draft Constitution of Sudan, which is based entirely on Shariah law and, according to a report earlier this month, prohibits the appointment of women in the judiciary.
On Tuesday, the ICF held its foundation conference in the capital Khartoum, and the coalition members who include the Salafi Ansar Al-Suna, the Muslim Brotherhood and the Just Peace Forum (JPF), signed its founding statement which called for applying Shariah laws.
The conference, which was attended by a host of political parties, saw some ICF representatives boldly warning the government and president Al-Bashir against an uprising by Islamists if their proposed constitution is not adopted.
Addressing the opening session, the ICF member and Imam of the Grand Mosque in Khartoum, Shaykh Kamal Riziq, regretted the fact that it was them who took the initiative to propose the Islamic constitution rather than the government itself.
He went on to warn that the government was now facing a choice between adopting their constitution and leaving.
"I find no qualms in telling the government that it should either rule by Islam or go unregrettably" he declared.
Omer Hadra, another ICF's member and representative of the Khattmiya religious sect, took it a step further, threatening to topple president Al-Bashir if he does not approve the draft constitution.
"We will submit this Islamic constitution to you [Al-Bashir] and if you fail to apply it, I swear to God we will have you overthrown," Hadra said.
The leader of the far-right JPF, Al-Tayyib Mustafa, pointed out that Muslims now make up 97 percent of Sudan's population and all of them want to apply Shariah.
Mustafa, who happens to be a close relative of Al-Bashir, added that Sudan's new homogenous reality had ended the debate on ethnic and religious diversity.
The ICF's secretary-general, Shaykh Al-Sadiq Abdella Abdel-Majid, vowed that they would have a strong word with the government should it fail to apply what he termed as God's rules. He warned that they would not compromise on Shariah no matter the challenges and obstacles.
Al-Bashir, an Islamist himself, is unlikely to feel threatened by the warnings. He was, after all, faster than the radical Islamists themselves in declaring the intention to transform Sudan into an entirely Islamic state.
Islamic democracy, do as we say or we'll kill you and do it ourselves!

...a constitution based on Shariah laws...
And what are the laws of Shariah based on? The Islamic texts. And what are the Islamic texts based on? The Qur'an and Mad Moe's Sunnah.
And just how much barbarity and insanity is there to be found in the Islamic texts? Plenty.
But of course Muslims will violently deny that there is even a smidgen of evil or injustice to found in the Qur'an and Sunnah.
In fact they are more than willing to kill anyone who would dare to disagree them about this. Anyone who would dare to criticize what their perverse religion contains. Anyone who would dare to say it is anything less than perfect.
Islam is evil in part and on the whole and we ex-Muslims living under its death penalty for apostasy know for certain that it is the exact opposite of what it claims to be.
Islam must be discredited and abandoned for the terribly harmful and dangerous fraud that it is. To think otherwise is pure delusion.
I couldn't give the bottom end of a rats digestive tract how the northern Sudanese suffer at the hands of their governement now. Who do you think were making full use of all those south sudanese slaves? They are damned and damned in full.
If they want to lick the full shariah boot then let them dine in full.
Each and every devastating pleague upon them will be lovingly accompanied by a jig joyously performed by yours truely.
Today in Syria the Christians are struggling with the political fights that is going on, please read about the brothers there and let us not forget those who suffer for the Gospel.

Descent Into Hell.
I just hope all Christians and Animists living in North Sudan (incidentally, can the 'Global Community rename the northern part of Sudan that's now under Bashir's rule as North Sudan, so that we have 2 separate countries - Muslim North Sudan and Christian/Animist South Sudan?) leave and move to South Sudan, and work towards the development of their new country. The oil should help them kickstart their economy, and enable them to get to a point where they can chart development goals for themselves.
Incidentally, Omar al Bashir, who is wanted for the Darfur war crimes on Black Muslims, is now the go-between b/w the Assad regime & the Arab League. Maybe Assad could return the favor and be a go-between b/w Bashir and the UN? From the 'stuff-you-cant-make-up' file.
The Muslims there are told all the time to not mix with Christians: "They are our enemies!" they are told in sermons, even posters.
But mostly, they miss the Southerners who have been kicked out. This was the impression I got.
It's very sad to see the aftermath of the CPA period and the separation. It is not working out well for either north or south. The northern people, the Muslims, know what they have lost, due to their appalling president, and now it is their turn to suffer a descent into savagery their pride and good manners will recoil from.
But of course, the Christians who remain in the north will suffer more.
They hadn't quite finished convincing everybody they were 'Arabs' down there!!
[Northern Sudanese people are often referred to as Arab Slaves - by those in the Gulf states]
For years, the Sudanese had been teaching school children Islamic Maths - sadly, then as now - it never added up to much of anything at all!
::
This was the push for the attacks on the South to create a homogenous Islamic state, it was all about, making Sudan a pure Islamic country - which meant that more Gulf Arab dollars would be available to them.
One joke was that the Sudanese gov. told the people of the South, if you except Islamic rule, we will allow you to drink your beer - but they never bought it. And further Gaddfhi tried similarly to strike a deal with the Southern leaders, for Islamic law in exchange for dollars.
It is similar to the western Islamic law proposals - 'we only want to introduce a moderate form of Islamic law' deception. And those in the South saw right through it.
::
In a sense it probably is like reshuffling the pages of history - with the back and forth between extreme and lighter/moderate Islamic periods.
The problem is that in those parts of the world, you have the traditional African beliefs, practised along side the Islamic ones. There is still as sense of tribe.
Further, from what I have heard of politics in that region, it might be that, those men who challenged Bashir may have just signed their death warrants. There leaders imprison the political opposition and release them after elections. But these men are not calling for an election.
We will see what happens - although the selection on offer is between gloomy and gloomier.
Sharia law under Bashir is like a group of muslims STANDING UP IN A CEESPOOL with the level of excrement up to their necks.
Hassan al Turabi now wants all muslims in the cesspool to have a seat!
Greetings:
Last evening, on NBC's "Rock Center" broadcast, there was a report by the intrepid, as declared by the show's anchorperson, Anne Curry. The segment dealt with the government of Sudan's attacks against the people of the Nuba mountains who were unfortunate enough not to be included in the secession of the now South Sudan. I do not recall the words muslim or islam being used during the report. Darfur was mentioned, though.
You go, girl.
Sudanese Islamic groups to president on imposition of more Sharia: Get on with it!
The opposition leader Hassan al-Turabi has threatened Bashir with an "Arab Spring"-type revolution...
...................................
But...but...what does the "Arab Spring" have to do with the imposition of Shari'ah? sarc/off
And as though Sudan is not Shari'ah-ridden enough as it is, with the murder and enslaving of Christians, animists, and even "non-Arab" Muslims—as in Darfur—and the caning of women for daring to wear pants in public.
But as neighboring Somalia shows all too grimly, one can *never* have enough Shari'ah—and you can wind up with rival Jihadists vying with each other to impose the strictest interpretation.

...................................
All a Muslim faction need do to "lawfully" overthrow a regime is to declare it "insufficiently Islamic"—and that is very much in the eye of the beholder. Theoretically, *everything* can be more purely Islamic.
After all, even the old Jihadist "Islamic Courts" in Somalia were declared "insufficiently Islamic" by Al-Shebaab—with the sanguinary results we see ongoing today.

Well—maybe that will be enough for Bashir, maybe not.
In either case, though, I have to echo Dumbledore's Army's terse evaluation of the situation: Descent Into Hell.
Sharia Law is not compatable with non-Islamic people. If you don't agree with Sharia Law, you should leave any Islamic country you are living in that is trying to promote Sharia Law. Sharia calls for the death of all whom will not submit.
It is for your own good to simply leave the country. Everyday I read about non-Muslim executions by Muslims. I have yet to read about a Muslim being executed by a Christian, Jew, Buddhist, Hindu, or athieist.
That should be a red flag to the whole world.
