A Taliban spokesman who identified himself as an "Authorized Correspondent by the Media Committee of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan" said that the Taliban will not renounce al Qaeda and that the terror group operates under the command of the "Military Command of the Islamic Emirate."The Taliban official, Abdullah al Wazir, made the statement yesterday in response to a posting at Shumukh al Islam, a jihadist Internet forum linked to al Qaeda. Wazir was replying to a question from a forum member who thought "that by agreeing to negotiations with the United States, the Afghan Taliban has taken the 'first step' to abandon al Qaeda," said the SITE Intelligence Group, which translated the statement.
"They [al Qaeda] are among the first groups and banners that pledged allegiance to the Emir of the Believers [Mullah Omar, the leader of the Afghan Taliban], and they operate in Afghanistan under the flag of the Islamic Emirate," Wazir said.
"They are an example of discipline and accuracy in the execution of missions and operations entrusted to them by the Military Command of the Islamic Emirate," Wazir continued, calling al Qaeda "lions in war."
Wazir said he was an "Authorized Correspondent by the Media Committee of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan." SITE described Wazir as "the "Afghan Taliban's correspondent on jihadist forums."
A US intelligence official who follows the Taliban said that Wazir is a member of the Haqqani Network, the powerful Taliban sub-group that operates in eastern Afghanistan and in Pakistan's tribal areas. The Haqqanis are closely tied to al Qaeda; Siraj Haqqani, the network's operational commander, has a seat on al Qaeda's council, and he and five other members of the network have been added to the US's list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists for their close ties to al Qaeda.
The Haqqanis routinely conduct join operations with al Qaeda in eastern Afghanistan, and provide shelter, support, and training facilities to leaders and operatives in Pakistan's Taliban-controlled tribal agency of North Waziristan.
Last fall, Siraj released a training manual which included portions that praised al Qaeda and urged Haqqani Network members to support al Qaeda both locally and in its international operations.
Wazir's statement was made just two days after the Taliban released an interview with Zahibullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, by CNN. During the interview, Mujahid refused to renounce "international terrorism" or al Qaeda. Mujahid also insisted that as an initial "confidence building measure" the US must take steps including the "exchange of Guantanamo prisoners." The five Taliban detainees currently under discussion all have been instrumental in forging ties between the Taliban and al Qaeda.
What ever happens with respect to the next ruler of Afganistan, Karzai is a dead man. The Taliban/ al Qaeda WILL never let him live.

When groups like the Taliban, al-Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah are seen by the vast majority of non-Muslims as the face of the true Islam, the most major of corners will have been turned. Not there yet. Getting there I believe (better be), but not there yet.
Al-Qaeda ut Jihad (Base of Terror) IS Taliban. There is no separate identity. Ditto: the muslim brotherhood. Zawahiri was always the operations chief of the terror group; bin Laden was field operative. There is no record of Zawahiri ever training terrorists; bin laden did exactly that. The mistake results from the fact that terrorists had to take a blood oath (bayat) to bin Laden.
My belief on the roots of 9-11 is this: Khurshid Ahmad (long time deputy leader of jamaat-islami engineered a State Dept subsidy for the JI's American fron: ISNA. Immigration reports record 20 trips by Ahmad to monitor ISNA and ICNA operations on US soil. These continued AFTER the JI invited bin Laden to attend their 1998 convention in Peshawar. He declined when Clinton ordered 80 cruise missiles launched at taliban-alQaeda genocide camps. Even after that the State Dept held talks with the JI leader, Qazi Hussein Ahmad, in Washington. In one document that I have, Khurshid Ahmad states that Americans couldn't take the small losses in the Mogadishu atrocity, and would break down if terror escalated. He was right. Their thinking was: imbecilic US Presidents would subsidize jihad through nation-building idiocies, rather that work to eliminate the terror groups.
Of course, the muslim brotherhood failed in the 1994 attack on the WTC. I believe that the JI brought Khomenist, Bannist and Wahabist terrorists together at Teheran's annual terror conference in 1997. Using JI intelligence, it was decided that Wahabists would execute terror on US soil. Bin Laden's "jihad against jews and crusaders" was designed by MB terror planners, but scribed by a Wahabist, because sauds were thought to be victims of the US troop presence in the terror-kingdom. (After 9-11, a State Dept poll of saudis indicated 95% support for al-qaeda; at the same time, 80% of pakis supported taliban-alQaeda).
After 9-11, GWB dropped US sanctions on the pak-terror-entity and proceeded both to transfer the highest US technology to America's enemy, while subsidizing their terror. Under the terror-entity's constitution, US aid trickled down to the NWFP terror province which by 2002 was under a 6 party terror alliance regime. When the paki Pentagon terrorists - JI operatives - were executed in the US, the NWFP assembly held one minute's silence for the "hero" terrorists. By 2003, pakis treated the US as a candy store for terrorists.
To this day, the ISNA remains a paid State Dept consultant group on "islamic affairs." Their paki masters - which combine operations with the Interservice intelligence agency, which harbored bin laden - also enjoy funds from the $3 billion sent to the terror state by US based operatives. (BHO refuses to release videotapes of bin laden's contacts, although neighbors in Abbotabad report a constant throng of luxury vehicles proceeded through the gate.
Why did the JI instigate 9-11, through use of Euro and US based saudis? The pak-terror-entity has lost every war with India. They knew that national terror morale would increase exponentially, if they beat the United States of America. Of course, they are winning. But they didn't beat the US; George Walker Bush and Barack Hussein Obama beat the US. If the present course in afghanistan proceeds, the US will leave that vulgar demographic-territorial piece of sewage like the proverbial beaten dog, with its tail between its legs.
You got that right, DS. Even so, this Prez is the greatest enabler of a pan-Islamic emirate; The One's Pax Obamana will put the final canonical stamp-of-approval onto the Third Jihad.

Here's my 10 cents.
Suggestions for future course of action on Somalia.
1/ henceforward no free western non-muslim nation will accept ANY Muslim from Somalia as an immigrant, visitor, tourist, businessman, asylum seeker or ‘refugee’, period.
Flipside of this: all Somali Muslims caught inciting or plotting jihad or practising any one of those many aspects of sharia [e.g. FGM, forced child 'marriage', 'honor' murder, attacks on 'apostates' and 'blasphemers'] that breach western criminal law and violate human rights, or engaging in gross acts of criminality against non-Muslims, will be transported back to Somalia. Their citizenship – if so be they have gained western citizenship – will be annulled and their British or US or Australian passports cancelled. (The Somali Muslim females who mobbed and lynched a non-Muslim British girl and her boyfriend, would be suitable candidates for this course of action, just to exemplify what I mean; so would the Somali Muslim who attacked Kurt Westergaard).
If they are caught attempting an honor murder or FGM on an under-age girl, the family will be deported. The girl will be allowed to remain until she turns 18, and will be fostered in a non-Muslim home and given a standard non-Muslim secular education (and encouraged to inform herself about non-Muslim faiths). When she turns 18 she is given the option of apostasising from Islam and remaining, or of choosing to be Muslim – and being deported to the Muslim country of her choice.
Somali Muslim men born and/ or raised in Western countries, who go off to Somalia (or to other war-torn jihad-wracked parts of dar al Islam) and may reasonably be assumed to be doing so in order to engage in Jihad, will lose their western citizenship (if so be they have acquired such) and will never be permitted to return into the lands of the non-Muslims.
2/ all foreign aid to Somali will stop.
3/ Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan will be given every assistance to close – and to patrol – their borders with Somalia to make sure that no Somali Muslim is able to get even so much as a toe across. Those who attempt cross border raids - to kidnap tourists, for example - will be obliterated with extreme prejudice.
4/ all Somali Muslim pirates will be shot on sight as opportunity arises.
Now *that* would be a plan...
