A man thought to be Iranian was seriously wounded in Bangkok on Tuesday when a bomb he was carrying exploded and blew one of his legs off, police and a government spokeswoman said.Shortly before, there had been an explosion in a house the man was renting in the Ekamai area of central Bangkok, government spokeswoman Thitima Chaisaeng told reporters.
A taxi driver told Thai television the man had then thrown a bomb in front of his car before running off, injuring him slightly.
Thitima said police had tried to move in and arrest the man after blast by the taxi. According to the Bangkok Post, he threw another grenade at the police that hit a tree and bounced back toward him and exploded, which caused him to lose both his legs.
"The police have control of the situation. It is thought that the suspect might be storing more explosives inside his house," Thitima said, adding that, according to an initial police report, the man was thought to be Iranian.
Five people were wounded as a result of Tuesday's attack.
A senior Israeli official said Tuesday that Thailand police believe that the bombing that took place in Bangkok earlier in the day was a botched terror attack....
I wonder what Iran is going to say now? Even those commentors on news articles who normally rant on about "false flags" and blaming Israel are eerily silent on this. I'd like to think that this'll finally sway some people towards taking Iran seriously but I have no doubt denials will be formulated eventually, however convoluted they may be. This particular article is very, very telling (note the pictures).
When these guys first arrived, they checked into a small, old hotel that doesn't have strict security measures (nota bene: this suggests local knowledge of some kind).
And they were sooo polite and nice...the staff of the hotel are shocked to discover that these nice polite clean-shaven young men in western dress (see the accompanying photos) were...jihadists plotting mayhem.

Thailand's hostelry industry is huge, and covers the gamut of everything from multistory luxury buildings to Mom-and-Pop guest houses--and as long as nobody dies mysteriously in the night, or gets robbed, the police tend to ignore the unlicensed places (or, at least back in the early 90's, as long as they can augment their meager salaries with bribes form such places). Thai people have also been known to give a traveler a bed for a night and a meal in exchange for foreign language practice.
The Thai can indeed "hide a dagger in their smiles". However, on the whole, they're a pleasant, well-mannered people who avoid violence, and hence easily impressed by anyone else who puts on a good front. Hence, I see this terrorist as an abuser of the hospitality of a country that I once enjoyed.
