NBC correspondent asks why "resistance group" Hizballah is standing by Assad

Hizballah is not a resistance group. It is a long recognized jihad terrorist organization that was responsible, one might recall, for the 1983 massacre of 241 members of the U.S. Armed Forces. It styles itself as a resistance group against Israel, but Hizballah is ultimately self-serving. It is a parasitic pseudo-state within a state in Lebanon, more heavily armed than the Lebanese army, and the only armed group from the Lebanese Civil War that failed to disarm, in defiance of U.N. Resolution 1559 and recently ignored another call from the U.N. Secretary General to disarm.

Four Hizballah members have been indicted and are wanted by Interpol for the assassination of Rafik Hariri. How did that crime help "resist" something?

In any case, Hizballah is a proxy of Iran and Syria. The loss of a Shi'ite-controlled regime (albeit a heterodox one) would be the loss of a friendly neighbor and benefactor. Even if a Sunni regime continued to make common cause with them against Israel, the relationship would be different. "Why is the resistance group Hezbollah standing beside Syria's dictator?" by Ayman Mohyeldin for NBC News via MSNBC, March 17:

BEIRUT, Lebanon – On a freshly paved road that runs from Baalbak to Ersal in northern Lebanon stands a towering billboard.
On one half of the billboard is Syrian President Bashar Assad, in military uniform. On the other half is a portrait of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, the powerful Lebanese political and paramilitary organization that has been labeled a terrorist group by Washington.

The conflict in neighboring Syria has put Hezbollah, the staunch regional resistance movement, in a tough spot. Despite praising the Arab Spring democracy movement in many other countries, Hezbollah and its leader Nasrallah are standing by the Assad regime, even as it kills thousands of its own people to preserve power.

While Hezbollah supports Assad’s regime, the broader Lebanese population is divided and hesitant to take sides. Nonetheless, there is growing concern that this distance will be increasingly difficult to maintain as the conflict spirals on.

In fact, both pro- and anti-Assad groups have traded accusations that the other is receiving material support from inside Lebanon

Rivals or bedfellows?

On the surface, Assad and Nasrallah appear to be opposites.

Assad is the president of a country that is increasingly isolated in the international community and is widely unpopular on the Arab street. His government is embattled and his grip on power challenged.

Nasrallah, on the other hands, is the head of a popular Lebanese resistance movement and a domestic political force. He enjoys widespread support on the Arab street, particularly for his staunch resistance to Israel and Western imperialism in the region.....

Shi'ite logic has it that within the global Islamic community, they are a relatively small minority, and a vehemently hated one at that. Thus, Shi'ites can't survive the Sunni onslaught unless they stick together collectively to survive it.

Therefore, Ithnā'ashariyyah (Twelver Shi'ism) has to support other Shi'ite subdenominations, such as Alawi Shi'ism and Ismaili Shi'ism.(all three of them can be found in Syria) Hezbollah and the Iranian mullahs are Twelver Shi'ites who support the Alawi power base. Within the context of ME politics, it is no surprise that the Syrian Alawi have consistently supported Hezbollah in Lebanon. If the Alawi get ousted from Syria by the hands of Salafis or MB affiliate groups, Hezbollah's position in Lebanon wil crumble to dust. The common denominator among those groups is simply "preserving Shi'ite interests in the region". It is a struggle for Shi'ite survival in the region.

This NBC correspondent doesn't understand the first thing about ME politics, apparently, because he asks all the wrong questions, which are indicative of the MSM's ignorance. This so-called journalist will find himself increasingly bewildered by what's going on because he simply ignores the obvious:

This is essentially a struggle of Shi'ites vs. Sunnis, and not a struggle of "unified Muslim resistance groups" against secularist dictatorship "in order to establish democratic rule in Syria" as most journalists in the West seem to want to believe.

NBC needs to get its facts straight !

Assad has always been a supporter of Hizballah, especially their political operatives in Lebanon.

The other thing to note about this is that Syrians look @ Lebanon as a part of Syria which the French separated. So it's not like any Syrian regime will leave Lebanon alone. If a Muslim Brotherhood regime replaced the Baath regime, they'd actively support the Lebanese Sunnis in destroying the Shia majority in Lebanon and making it a Sunni country again - sorta like Saudi Arabia does w/ Bahrein.

Hizbullah has to support the Alawites b'cos they are the only people even remotely resembling an ally. Hamas, on the other hand, seems to be in the process of switching sides from Assad to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Spot on, Infidel Pride. BTW, Hamas is already smooching up Erdogan and his bunch of neo-Ottoman Turks as we speak.

In a core Islamic text, Muhammad says there is to be no punishment for murdering someone who insults him

From Sunan Abu-Dawud, a canonical hadith collection:
Book 38, Number 4348:

Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas:

A blind man had a slave-mother [a slave who bore children for him] who used to abuse the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) and disparage him. He [the blind man] forbade her but she did not stop. He rebuked her but she did not give up her habit. One night she began to slander the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) and abuse him. So he [the blind man] took a dagger, placed it on her belly, pressed it, and killed her. A child who came between her legs was smeared with the blood that was there. When the morning came, the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) was informed about it.

He assembled the people and said: I adjure by Allah the man who has done this action and I adjure him by my right to him that he should stand up. Jumping over the necks of the people and trembling the man stood up.

He sat before the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) and said: Apostle of Allah! I am her master; she used to abuse you and disparage you. I forbade her, but she did not stop, and I rebuked her, but she did not abandon her habit. I have two sons like pearls from her, and she was my companion. Last night she began to abuse and disparage you. So I took a dagger, put it on her belly and pressed it till I killed her.

Thereupon the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: Oh be witness, no retaliation is payable for her blood.

Another canonical hadith:

Sunan Abu-Dawud, Book 38, Number 4349:

Narrated Ali ibn AbuTalib:

A Jewess used to abuse the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) and disparage him. A man strangled her till she died. The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) declared that no recompense was payable for her blood.

"Resistance" to Israel's doing what? Hezbollah is a LEBANESE organization, not a Palestinian one.

If Hassan Nasrallah wants to champion Palestinians, I have a suggestion for him. Do something to permit them to work in Lebanon and get out of the shanty towns. That shouldn't be difficult for someone who wields Nasrallah's political power there.

I wouldn't have thought that dhimmi determination to whitewash Islamic terrorists could go this far, and it's hard to imagine it going farther.

But, I guess there's always another lesson to be learned.

Yes, the Christian community is solidly behind the Assad government and with good reason. The Assad government's support amongst the infidel/Alawite/moderate Sunni communities is holding up well. Morale amongst it's security forces is high too. Homs is back in control.

Here's the real issue for Assad: he'll only have this support until he's no longer useful. Then he'll be dumped like old garbage. And, of course, we have the usual idiots (along with some that should know better) calling for US intervention. At http://thenewknighthood.blogspot.com I wrote my latest article on the folly of rash foreign policy in Syria. Ye gods and little fishes, how many times do we have to go through this before we learn that supporting anybody in these situations is a no-win proposal? That's how the people organizing all of this have set things up. We need to conserve our strength for when it's really needed, not vying for "feel-good military action of the year"

Everybody who is puzzling about the tone and language of this NBC report: don't.

It's quite simple.

Just look at the name of the journalist.

"Why is the resistance group Hezbollah standing beside Syria's dictator?" by Ayman Mohyeldin for NBC News via MSNBC, March 17:

**AYMAN MOHYELDIN".

How many Muslims *are* there, by now, working for international non-Muslim news gatherers? And providing photographs - think of all those 'palestinian' Arab Muslim stringers who've been feeding cooked photos to the western media since forever.

And even when the byline is a western name: how many western journalists in these Muslim lands are totally dependent on Muslim 'guides' and 'interpreters' ...who make sure that the journalist only hears and sees what she or he is supposed to hear and see?

" his staunch resistance to Israel and Western imperialism in the region.....
Would someone please hand this correspondent a style manual or something like it?

What the hell are you talking about, Marisol?

That IS the NBC/MSNBC style manual in action.

Yes, the Christian community is solidly behind the Assad government and with good reason. The Assad government's support amongst the infidel/Alawite/moderate Sunni communities is holding up well. Morale amongst it's security forces is high too. Homs is back in control.

Assad Government is finish the Sunnies will make sure of that. Assad cannot fight the Turkey Army than win he will lose.

''Assad Government is finish the Sunnies will make sure of that. Assad cannot fight the Turkey Army than win he will lose''

And don't you just *love* the idea of that ! You know, if your going to continue to comment incoherently here, you really need to choose another moniker. I'm afraid your asinine comments only highlight the horrors of your evil cult, and don't constitute a 'defence' at all. Hey, what am I saying ! Carry on !

Can't comprehend the stir when Ayman Mohyeldin of NBC News-MSNBC makes the type of comments he does. Here is someone who might be reading and writing news for a village of deaf, blind and unwitting idiots.
Assad and Iran - through their local franchise of Hezbollah - abide in a symbiosis. Assad is dependent on Iran's muscle-mahdi's and Iran wants access to the Mediterranean (which they now have at Latakia).
But, Mohyeldin presents for the pleasure of his ostriches: who buy burying their noses in the ground, present their asses to be kicked.
Mohyeldin and I may differ about the public, though. He seems confident that they're just plain ignorant. I believe they choose to be stupid.

NBC correspondent asks why "resistance group" Hizballah is standing by Assad
....................................

Where does one even begin?

Most importantly, as noted, Hizb'allah is *not* a "resistance group"—it is a Jihad terror organization that has eaten Lebanon alive.

Additionally, as also noted, Hizb'allah is sponsored by Syria and Iran. This is working out just fine for Hizb'allah. why would they want this to change?

More:

"Why is the resistance group Hezbollah standing beside Syria's dictator?" by Ayman Mohyeldin for NBC News via MSNBC
....................................

Note the unspoken implications here: that Hizb'allah is a principled organization, and hence their standing by a dictator means they are somehow not living up to their high ideals. Grotesque in its very premise...

But then, why should we be surprised? Mohyeldin is one of those Muslim "journalists" whose career, perversely, took off after 9/11, as Western news outlets scrambled for those who spoke Arabic or Urdu, and—even more perversely—had Muslim "cred".

Mohyeldin has produced puff pieces for CNN "Hajj: A Spiritual Journey" and "Islam: The Struggle Within".

He's also worked for Al Jazeera, producing such slanted stories as "Hundreds die in Israel raid on Gaza" and "Gaza's underground lifelines" on the tunnels—never mind That these are mostly used to smuggle in weapons for use against Israel.

So now we are—insanely—getting much of our news from people whose loyalty to the democratic principles of the West is highly questionable. More fools we...

I consider it interesting how DOI prefers Turkish Sunnis to Arab Alawites/Shias/Druze.
