Pakistan: Life sentence for “uttering blasphemous remarks against the Holy Prophet”

Allegedly offensive words = life destroyed. The sentence is light years beyond excessive, since Manzarul Haq Shah Jahan should not even be in jail, but one can’t help but ask: why did he get life in prison while Asia Bibi was sentenced to hang?

The charge of “blasphemy” flirts perilously with the worship of Muhammad. But honestly:

If you’re a Muslim and believe he’s gone to his eternal reward, he has other things on his mind.
If you’re not a Muslim and believe he’s gone to eternal punishment, he has other things on his mind.
If you’re not a Muslim and believe he’s floating on a cloud in some vague alternate dimension in with your lost keys and socks, he has other things on his mind.
If you’re not a Muslim and you believe in reincarnation, he has other things on someone else’s mind.
If you’re an atheist and believe he’s just plain dead, well, none of the above applies.

But Manzarul Haq Shah Jahan must be destroyed! “Court gives life-term to SHO for blaspheming,” from Pakistan Today, March 17 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

KASUR – A court on Friday awarded life-imprisonment to Police Station House Officer (SHO) Manzarul Haq Shah Jahan for uttering blasphemous remarks against the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Additional District and Sessions” Judge Chaudhry Umar Hayat handout out the verdict on a case registered at the complaint of Muhammad Younis. The complainant had alleged that the then SHO of Raja Jung Police Station had uttered blasphemy in a conversation with him and two other men, Javed Iqbal and Hafiz Shahid, on street crime. Younis had alleged that the SHO called Hafiz a “Maulvi” and used blasphemous words against the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The complainant had added that he was getting the case (No 20/2009) registered at the police station under Section 295-C after discussing the incident with 65 members of a mosque.

A fatwa was also issued by religious scholars of prominent seminaries like Darul Aloom and Jamia Naeemia, Lahore, against the SHO. In his judgement, the judge observed that the offence of blasphemy had been fully proven against the accused, and that he had been found guilty. The judge awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 200,000 in the case, adding that the accused would have to undergo further two years of imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.

    It just shows how fanatical the whole thing is!

    We are dealing with a primitive set.

    Say for example in Saudi Arabia there was a case the other day – where an banker was caught having an affair which had lasted for a number of years.

    The woman was let go [by the virtue and vice squad] – because he had placed an amulet in her purse – which had cast a magic spell on her for all that time – but after the Saudi police reportedly destroyed it – she was free of its spell.

    In short the Saudis are the Beverly Hillbillies – the oil and money mixture but not much in the way of a sense of the modern world.

    Those in Pakistan and Afghanistan – are really very simplistic – bound by deep superstitions – which they collectively call Islam in this case.

    ::

    The sentence does seem lenient and without much fuss, but there was a Muslim, who was given the death sentence – but he was a human rights activist – almost on par with a Christian – in that country!!

    There was a Pak Muslim doctor arrested for blasphemy -because he threw a business card in the trash – given to him by a man named ‘Muhammad’!!

    Makes you wonder about these Middle East countries that have all these “holy men” running around — imams, mullahs, ayatollahs, religion “scholars,” and the like, influencing crowd behavior and judicial policy. These are tribal, throwback societies.

    CLIMATE OF FEAR AND INTIMIDATION: ARE THE LIGHTS GOING OUT?:

    Here’s a very incomplete list of organizations or people self-censoring, or hiring bodyguards, or going into hiding, or taking other precautions, and sometimes getting killed or wounded after receiving death threats and violence from Muslims following the example of Muhammad, who said there would be no punishment for murdering someone who had insulted him.

    Audience in Lecture Hall, Queen Mary College, London (man goes to front of hall, films audience, announces he will track down anyone who says a negative word of Muhammad. The lecture — on Islamic law — is canceled.)

    Monty Python comedian (self-censors in fear of Muslims)

    Yale University Press (self-censors in response to Muslim death threats);

    Metropolitan Museum of Art (self-censors in response to Muslim death threats);

    National Archives of Canada (self-censors in response to Muslim death threats);

    French newspaper (after being firebombed for printing a cartoon of Muhammad, the next day the paper prints that cartoon again, and more! Bravo!)

    Hollywood (self-censors by canceling a movie project about Jews in Malmo, Sweden, after learning of frequent Muslim threats and acts of violence against Jews in Malmo);

    Talk-show host David Letterman (At Al Qaeda website a frequent commenter calls on Muslims to cut out Letterman’s tongue and kill him.)

    Paris Dipersico, author (beaten by two Muslim men for writing things “against Islam,” such as “Islam is a religion of ‘peace’, and Muslims will kill you to prove it.”)

    Director of the museum in the Hague, Wim van Krimpen (self-censors in response to Muslim death threats);

    UK religious studies teacher Gary Smith (Muslims hit him over the head with an iron bar, fracturing his skull, hemmorhaging his brain, breaking his jaw, and slashing his face, for not teaching Islam as they deem appropriate)

    Norwegian politicians (Iraqi-born cleric Mullah Krekar threatens politicians with death if he’s deported from Norway).

    State Senator Greg Ball (receives suspicious package with greeting “Asa Lamu Laikum Dead Man Walking,” (the first part of which is Arabic for “peace be upon you”) ;

    2010 Tennessee candidate for Congress Lou Ann Zelenik (death threats from Muslims);

    Barrister Tom Zreika (seeks police protection after non-stop phone threats from Muslims);

    Japanese translator of Rushdie, Hitoshi Igarashi (murdered);

    Norwiegan translator of Rushdie, William Nygaard (shot);

    Italian translator of Rushdie, Ettore Capriolo (knifed);

    French singer Veronique Sanson (self-censors in response to Muslim death threats);

    Artist Molly Norris (self-censors in response to Muslim death threats, changed name, went into hiding);

    The producers of South Park (self-censor in response to Muslim death threats);

    Journalist Lawrence O’Donnell (self-censors in response to Muslim death threats);

    Cartoonist Lars Vilks (house firebombed);

    Philosopher Robert Redeker (in hiding, under government protection);

    Filmmaker Theo Van Gogh (murdered);

    Author and former member of Dutch parliament Hirsi Ali (full-time bodyguards);

    Author Salman Rushdie (in hiding, under UK govt. protection);

    Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten (bodyguards hired);

    And again Jyllands Posten (five jihadists discovered planning to shoot as many people as possible);

    Atheist Sabri Husibi (death threats from Muslims);

    Lyricist Javed Akhtar (death threats from Muslims);

    Cartoonist Kurt Westergaard (almost killed by a Muslim with an axe);

    Director of the film 2012; the comedian Penn Jillette; the British potter Grayson Perry (all three self-censor in response to Muslim death threats);

    Lawyer Majed Moughni (death threat from Muslim);

    Author Taslima Nasreen (self-censors in response to Muslim death threats);

    Disc jockey/musician Jakub Rene Kosik (self-censors in response to Muslim death threats);

    Coptic Orthodox priest Zakaria Botros (Al Qaeda bounty of $60 million on his head);

    Pop star Deeyah (hires extra bodyguards);

    Politician Shiria Khatun (forced by Muslim threats to her children to dress in a “less Western” manner);

    Christian minister Dr. Peter Hammond
    (death threat from Muslim);

    Actor Omar Sharif (Muslims call for his murder);

    Artist Sooreh Hera (self-censors in response to Muslim threats and forced into hiding);

    Artist Sarah Maple (gallery workers threatened, gallery window smashed, 24-hour police protection);

    Beatle Paul McCartney (death threats from Muslims);

    150 Austrian Coptic Christians (Austrian interior ministry found jihadist list targeting each of them for violent attack);

    100+ Canadian-Arab Christians (each one targeted on an Al Qaeda website);

    Volvo and Ikea (threatened by terrorist group);

    UK Muslim scientist Usama Hasan (self-censors in response to Muslim death threats);

    Islam expert Robert Spencer gets a death threat; and another death threat; and another death threat; and yet anoth…well, you get the idea.

    Robert Spencer continues to speak out, but countless others are self-censoring in response to the climate of intimidation. The lights are going out. The growth of Islam means the death of civil liberties. It’s time to resist.

    Two years on top of life imprisonment if he doesn’t pay the fine.
    H’m…under those conditions, he might as well not pay the fine.
    Let them inprison his dead body; why not?
    These people are insane…

    “Holy Prophet”

    Since when is a hardened criminal holy or a prophet from God? This doesn’t make sense …

    And peace be upon him? ..more like perdition IS upon him!

    Here’s the hypocracy and idiocy of Muslims. They’re not supposed to worship or “idolize” anybody but Allah. However, Muslims treat Mo as if he were a saint or a god. (Not the child raping, mass murdering scumbag that he was.)

    Sounds to me as if this Younis had a grudge against the SHO – probably blocked his promotion, or refused to accept a bribe, or something like that. How easy for the scum in these islamic hellholes to remove those in their way, or grab someone else’s property, or simply punish someone they hate. All they have to do is make the ‘blasphemy’ accusation, et voila ! Like an accusation of witchcraft or heresy in *16th century* Europe.

    ”…complainant had added that he was getting the case (No 20/2009) registered at the police station under Section 295-C after discussing the incident with 65 members of a mosque.”

    This smacks even more of collusion and revenge – bet the ’65 members of the mosque’ had a stake in this as well.

    And yet, aren’t these accusations the kind of thing that could so easily bite one back ? A *counter* accusation would be easy to make, surely ? Unless of course one is a Christian, like Asia Bibi, in which case *every* muslim hand would be against one. And the penalty of choice, death.

    Yet another reason for fighting to the death any attempts by muslims in the West to criminalise criticism of islam, and telling the *truth* about their disgusting ‘prophet.’

    noun
    (in India) an expert in Islamic law: used especially as a term of respectful address among Muslims.

    In the context of this report, sounds as if its a *pejorative* term. Curioser and curioser.

    Mohammad was a mass murdering pedophile: aaah I feel better now after my daily Mo blasphemy, thats another death sentence or life in prison for me from Islam, but they can’t touch me yet. I wonder how much Monty Python were thinking of Islam when they did their great Jehovah stoning sketch.

    Good question. Of course, it virtually answers itself…

    On the other hand, I’m not sure how many prisoners in Dar-al-Islam convicted of blasphemy get to live out their natural life span”not while surrounded by Muslim prisoners and guards…

    Like Jan, I believe this sounds like some of the cops decided that an easy way to get rid of an officer they had some sort of beef with would be to accuse him of “blasphemy”, then make a show of publicly discussing the incident with scores of pious mosque-goers.

    I’m sure Officer Manzarul Haq Shah Jahan got a “fair trial” at that point…sarc/off.
