Obama urges Karzai to surrender to Taliban

What are we fighting for? "Obama to urge Afghan president Karzai to push for Taliban settlement," by Ewen MacAskill in the Guardian, May 20 (thanks to Pamela Geller):

Barack Obama is to use the Nato summit to press the Afghan leader Hamid Karzai to engage with greater urgency with the Taliban about a political settlement in Afghanistan.

The US president flew to Chicago on Saturday night after 24 hours of negotiations with the leaders of the G8, dominated by the eurozone crisis but which also included talks on issues including Afghanistan.

With US allies pressing for a speedy exit from a war their countries have become weary of, Obama is to discuss with Karzai and Nato allies a timetable that will see Afghan forces taking over combat duties from the US and its allies by the middle of next year.

Almost all international forces are scheduled to be out by the end of 2014 after completion of the Afghanistan elections. Karzai will not be standing in that election.

The Obama administration had hoped Chicago would be the venue for a major announcement of a political settlement with the Taliban. But these hopes crumbled when the Taliban walked away from reconciliation talks in March.

Instead, Obama is having to focus on trying to keep the international force together until the end of 2014, with some countries already preparing to leave early, in particular France, which has said it will remove combat troops by the end of this year.

After the pullout in two years time, a Nato force will be left behind, in part to help with training....

And to serve as target practice for Afghan troops.

Sixty years after their country came under military dictatorship, Egyptians are for the first time freely electing their president.

The "great urgency" to engage the Taliban is 4 more years for 44.

That was indeed one pointless war, taking out the Taliban, then putting them back in place. What did all these people die for?

Well, I just hope some of those NATO forces left behind are Turkish.

In the end what difference does it make? Both the Taliban and the Karzai government are sharia compliant, it's just a matter of degree. This is why American armed forces should never be sent to prop up and support any sharia compliant goverment no matter what our perceived self interest might be.

Thousands of young American lives lost, tens of of billions of dollars spent - and all this, to reinstall the very same Taliban forces that were in place in Afghanistan, on Sept 10, 2001. And this time, with US blessings and apologies.

What a criminal waste?

After the pullout in two years time, a Nato force will be left behind, in part to help with training....

....but also to give the Taliban some more infidels to slaughter.

Barack Hussein Obama is evidently proud of his multifarious pro-Islamist policies both at home and abroad. He is more like Jimmy Carter than Jimmy Carter!

Entirely abysmal.

Isn't Obama's appeal redundant, since it's Karzai who has gotten Obama to release Taliban jihadis from Gitmo?

1, 2, 3 what are we fightin' for,
Don't ask I dont give a damn,
Next stop...Afghanistan.

Same ending as 'Nam... the country handed over to our enemies!

btw those at Woodstock were precisely the ones that brought about the abandonment of S. Vietnam to the Communist North resulting in the subsequent slaughter of 2, 1/2 million.
The situation now is similar in the question of "what are we fighting for"? but rather more complicated. There is no tradition of democracy in Afghanistan so what our presence there was meant to achieve is less than clear. Consider that democracy in Gaza put Hamas in power.
In South-East Asia, S. Korea is now a thriving democracy. So could South Vietnam have been.
Despite what the Woodstockers thought, the question "what are we fightin' for" was more answerable then than it is now with Afghanistan and Iraq. Islam has a greater hold on Mid-east nations that Communism in SE Asia.

What did you expect? It is inevitable, anyway! As we leave, Taliban will shuffle in and grab anything we leave behind, including $billions

Frankfurt School - simple as that!

"What did you expect?"
Yes but there are times when you would like to have been proven wrong...

Dream on - there will never be a happy ending where islam is involved, so why try to fool ourselves?

This post is a little of topic but I thought we could use a laugh. Remember the "you might be a redneck if..." jokes. I came across this posted on a yahoo news feed comment and found it quite funny! Humor is one way to bring the Islam to peoples attention!!

You might be a Muslim if....

1. You refine heroin for a living, but you have a moral objection to liquor.

2. You own a $3,000 machine gun and $5,000 rocket launcher, but you can't afford shoes.

3. You have more wives than teeth.

4. You wipe your butt with your bare hand, but consider bacon unclean.

5. You think vests come in two styles: bullet-proof and suicide.

6. You can't think of anyone you haven't declared Jihad against.

7. You consider television dangerous, but routinely carry explosives in your clothing.

8. You were amazed to discover that cell phones have uses other than setting off roadside bombs.

9. You have nothing against women and think every man should own at least four.

10. You find this offensive or racist and don't forward it.

Please sign the Petition to Congress asking for articles of impeachment of Mr. Obama and an impeachment trial by the Senate. Mr. Obama has committed treasonous actions in adhering to our enemies during a time of war and is ineligible to be President per the U.S. Constitution.

I think Christopher Hitchens put it well in terms of the reasons why we are at war not only with Al Qaeda but also with the Taliban. Obama's appeasement to fascists should make him unelectable for November, you don't negotiate with terrorists and they remain terrorists unless they have wholeheartedly surrendered like the Japenese in WW2. What Obama is doing puts lives in danger from another terrorist attack!

Furthermore, I agree with Mitt Romneys approach for dealing with the Taliban...

My thoughts on the matter (speaking as an Australian).

By all means let us get our troops out of that hell-pit, as fast as we can. We need every man of fighting age, with military training, on the home front. That especially applies to countries like France, Denmark, the UK, where in some districts Mohammedan mobs are - I suspect - poised to move from sporadic 'flash mob' riots and individual and gang-based 'street jihad', to full-on Jihad.

The only benefit derived from the whole miserable excursion in both Iraq and Afghanistan is entirely incidental - at least *some* of our men have seen, up close and personal, just how horrible sharia-crazed Mohammedans are to each other (and to poor innocent dogs who just wanna be man's best friend; many a despised and cruelly persecuted Afghan pi-dog has discovered, to his delighted amazement, that there really are humans in the world who *don't* hate dogs, and they are to be found at the British/ Aussie/ Canadian/ US/ Any Non-Muslim Entity army camp), and they have also experienced first-hand the murderous hate that all fully-indoctrinated Mohammedans harbour toward Kuffar, and that fake smiles and flowery fawnings and flatterings often mask that hate (just before the hidden knife or gun is flashed out). They may not know how to articulate or process what they have experienced: so when they come home it is the job of the Islamosavvy - that's you and me, guys - to make contact with them and 'debrief' them and give them the briefing that they should have had in the first place before they ever put a boot to the ground. Some (I hope, *many*) of those returned soldiers may - like Congressman Allen West - go on to become key leaders in the home-soil Resistance to Islamisation.

My other thought is this: as our soldiers are brought home, let us insist, loudly, that if none of our people are to be in Afghanistan, then there is absolutely NO good reason why Afghan Mohammedans should be permitted to enter into, or to remain upon, **our** turf.

No Infidels in Afghanistan? FINE. I'm good with that. Saves money and lives. But turnabout is fair play: NO whining, squawking Mohammedan 'asylum seekers' or 'refugees' or 'immigrants' from Afghanistan - **so many of whom are Males of Military Age** - should henceforth, after the withdrawal of our troops and other personnel from Afghanistan, be admitted into the Lands of the Infidels, and those already present, well, the instant they blot their copybooks, back they should go to Afghanistan on a one-way ticket.

I agree 100%,just put them there pig dog monkeys on a remote control plane with just enough fuel to go 100 miles out and a cargo bay full of swine remaines.Priceless
as a wise man once said " CLOWNS "

Yes—because who could be better "partners for peace" than the Jihadist thugs who were stoning women to death in the streets when we went into Afghanistan in the first place? sarc/off

Yes, indeed—madness, and suicidal madness.
