This may not be necessary. Most Mexicans—even those in isolated villages in Chiapas—do speak some Spanish. Of the very few who do not, few sole speakers of Nahuatl or Mayan are are literate in those languages, either. Mexicans who are too remote for Spanish are probably—for now, at least—too remote for Islam.

Yucatán Spanish is somewhat distinct, as is the Central American Spanish spoken in Mexico's southernmost states. But again, most people there who are literate can read standard Mexican Spanish.

Also, my understanding is that most distinctions between various forms of Mexican Spanish are primarily phonetic, and in the use of regional slang. Most literate Mexicans read standard Spanish just fine.

"All the churches"? You might think that sounds good, until you realize that any church seized by Muslims—a not uncommon occurrence in Egypt—is instantly turned into a mosque—et voila! No longer a church.

That dispute ended when the woman's father and cousin shot each other dead—then local Muslims claimed that Copts were using the church to "perform black magic against Muslims".

This became such a high-profile case that the authorities did indeed finally rebuild the church of St. Mina and St. George at Sol—a rare example of decency on the part of the Egyptian authorities.

In a similar case in the village of Elmarinab, the church of St. George was also badly damaged by a mob. I know your question was for Istanbul Chick, but "spelunking" is exploring caves, and "water-spelunking" is exploring flooded and underwater caves—generally by scuba-diving.

The El Zacatón Cenote is the world's deepest water-filled sinkhole, and is located in Tamaulipas, in north-eastern Mexico.

My understanding is that the town of El Zacatón is located in Guanajuato, in south-central Mexico.

"Zacatón" seems to refer to a type of plant—zacate grasses, which are kind of like pampas—which appear in several parts of Mexico.

So—I doubt the famous sinkhole is actually a local attraction of yours.

You are absolutely right. I live in El Zacaton in Sonora, not the El Zacaton with the caves to which IC refers.

And yes, "Zacaton" means, roughly, "big grass", but a native of the region (a fully-bilingual expert) tells me that Zacaton can also be the name of a person who is "chicken" - scared.
