Obama Administration scrubs persecution of Christians from human rights report

Don't want to promote "Islamophobia," doncha know. Nothing does that like reports of Muslims committing atrocities against Christians and other non-Muslims in the name of Islam -- and of course challenging Muslim entities over this persecution is out of the question as far as this Administration is concerned. "State Department Purges Section on Religious Freedom from Its Human Rights Reports," by Pete Winn for CNS News, June 7 (thanks to Mackie):

The U.S. State Department removed the sections covering religious freedom from the Country Reports on Human Rights that it released on May 24, three months past the statutory deadline Congress set for the release of these reports.

The new human rights reports--purged of the sections that discuss the status of religious freedom in each of the countries covered--are also the human rights reports that cover the period that covered the Arab Spring and its aftermath.

Thus, the reports do not provide in-depth coverage of what has happened to Christians and other religious minorities in predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East that saw the rise of revolutionary movements in 2011 in which Islamist forces played an instrumental role.

For the first time ever, the State Department simply eliminated the section of religious freedom in its reports covering 2011 and instead referred the public to the 2010 International Religious Freedom Report – a full two years behind the times – or to the annual report of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), which was released last September and covers events in 2010 but not 2011.

Leonard Leo, who recently completed a term as chairman of the USCIRF, says that removing the sections on religious freedom from the State Department's Country Reports on Human Roghts [sic] is a bad idea.

Since 1998, when Congress created USCIRF, the State Department has been required to issue a separate yearly report specifically on International Religious Freedom.

But a section reporting on religious freedom has also always been included in the State Department's legally required annual country-by-country reports on human rights--that is, until now.

And this is the first year the State Department would have needed to report on the effect the Arab Spring has had on religious freedom in the Middle East--had its reports, as always before, included a section on religious freedom....

If I was a Republican debating Obama the very first thing I would mention to him is his opinion on the Coptic christians in Egypt, & watch him squirm. I heard the last time they were mentioned to him he turned & walked away.

If this report is fully validated, I can't think of anything at this moment that could make me more angry. It is this kind of appeasing behavior by the Obama administration that must not be tolerated by the American people as well as the Christian Community.

I hope presidential candidate Romney confronts this head on because it is an unconscionable act by the Obama Administration.

Imagine if we ignored the reports of atrocities against the Jewish People by the Nazi SS in Germany in the 40s'.-- Oh we actually did!!! and then when we saw what happened we said NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!! But here we are again visiting similar atrocities against the Coptic Christians by Muslims and we stick our heads in the sand as we did before--- IT IS INCREDIBLY DISGUSTING and the Obama Administration is complicit in what has been happening.

Let us be reminded who it was who showed the Nazis' how to exterminate the Jewish people.

Lets see if Obama would purge slavery from the records to not offend white-folks.

They have learnt lying from Muslims whom they bootlicking!!

Don't worry. Obama will be gone in January. If the 2010 mid-term elections and the recent Wisconson primary are any indication the Dems are delusional about the current administration's chances for reelection. Let's just hope Romney does a better job.

this traitor needs to be removed

I witnessed that beheading from Tunis the other day, it had about 80K views on YouTube at that point. Now there are about 200K views. People are aware of this, not enough though.

I am disappointed at the lack of outrage from Christians. Mackie talks about the similarities to what happened to the Jews in Europe in the '30's + '40's, and I agree.

The difference between that time and ours is that Jews had no power to do anything about what was happening. There was no Israel, the Jewish community in Europe was subjugated by centuries of persecution and discrimination, and the US Jewish community was a fledgling community. My own parents, first generation US citizens were in their early twenties at the time, struggling to make their way in the world and they were well aware of anti-Semitic sentiment and forces against them here in the US. Their own parents were immigrants who had come to the US with virtually the clothes on their backs, were grateful to be here and not about to protest against the US government. IOW, despite the pleas of a few leaders there didn't seem to be much anyone could do.

But what is the excuse today of the Christian community that they look the other way or see what is happening and do nothing? I don't get it.

I'm horrified and deeply saddened by the slaughter and by the continued news of bombings. And I am becoming disturbed that nothing seems to be done about this.

I have nomore trust in our leaders. I doubt any republican candidaite is going to ask him.

Obama and his Democrat clowns support Islam. Just like the Nazis and Hitler made propaganda movies about the concentration camps making people think that the Jews actual enjoyed been in those camps so Obama and his circus want you to think that Christians and other minorities are happy in these Muslim countries.

Silence is complicity. Pointed ommission is permission to persecute. Barry and Hillary are enemies of Truth.

Don't count on it. America is full of useful idiots. There is a good chance he will get re-elected. Only candidate who can defeat Obama is Lt. Col. Alan West. Sadly he is not running.

It's embarrassing!!

Those State Dept. reports were full of details.

It by its absence gives support to 'Muslim values' which contradict human rights - on almost every level.

Look at the Muslim world - it's a failure.

The whole Islamic promise has not panned out.

Evidenced by Muslim fleeing to the free world for a better life and more opportunity - by any means.

And cannot be blamed on the few dictators - it is a system of belief that - Muslims are forced to adhered to - that when depended on - has left people disillusioned [see Iran] - but more since it is criminal to question it - are forced to repeat the same action and hope for a different result.

Similar to communist systems - that in order for it to work - everyone has to do the same things - and then to get that many people to do the same things - requires state interference - and the breaking with individual rights and freedoms.

It's saying we have to understand the dhimmi laws - which hold one man above another - we have to understand that - Muslims take privileged positions - in these countries - and to challenge this - might probably be seen as racist.

It may very well for the Obama administration become 'racist' to support human rights - where it concerns Islam and its values.

::

[Of course we don't know if the omission is for every Islamic country - or it is just for Egypt/North Africa

For example, Bangladesh has better laws governing religion freedom - than does Egypt and this should be stated.]

It's cowardly!!

Next they won't cover women's issues!!

"Obama Administration scrubs persecution of Christians from human rights report"

If Romney wants to win the election, this is the sort of thing he needs to start talking about. Obama has proven to be an enemy of freedom, and he must be defeated.

Hi, L-M,

I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment. Unfortunately, I think that ship has sailed for the following reasons: 1) if Romney wins, he will run again in 4 years (forgive me if my knowledge of US politics is lacking) as the incumbent, as I've never heard of a sitting president being challenged by another in his party for the presidency; and 2) assuming Romney wins in November, but is then defeated in 2016, then we've got another 4 years of an Obama-esque democratic disaster. So, the absolute earliest Lt. Col. Alan West could run would be 2020, UNLESS Obama pulls of another victory this November, at which point Alan West could conceivably challenge Romney for the Republican leadership in 2016. Ideally, Lt. Col. West could secure a VP nomination, and be a voice of reason vis-a-vis islam in the ear of potential president Romney. No matter what, Obama MUST GO!!!!

the Syria Government will be overthrown. First tell Russia, Iran and China that they plane sent supplies to the Syria Government will be shot down for breaking than no supplies zone. Second the Syrian dilpmat to the UN be put on than one minute trial and excute for the crimes his government is doing by the good guy. The Islamist sect declare to be not muslum by the Sunnic sect.

I long for the days when the American Government could be counted on to conduct a foreign policy with integrity. Here are a few excerpts about Egypt, from the USA’s State Department's International Religious Freedom Report of 2009:

EGYPT

"...persons age 16 and older may convert to Islam without parental consent...”

"In [January 2008] ...the [Cairo Administrative] court wrote that principles of Islamic law forbid Muslims from converting away from Islam..."

"...The approval process for church construction continued to be hindered by lengthy delays, often measured in years,..."

"...the Government's interpretation of Shari'a...dictates "no jurisdiction of a non-Muslim over a Muslim..."

"...the Government discriminates against non-Muslims..."

"...On December 13, 2008, airport security officials arrested a convert from Islam to Christianity...The convert subsequently told U.S. officials that state security officials raped her multiple times and subjected her to other physical and mental abuse...to pressure her to revert to Islam..."

"...A male convert from Islam to Christianity told U.S. officials that agents of State Security had detained him on multiple occasions over several years, including during the reporting period. The convert stated that authorities had subjected him to severe physical and mental abuse; he said the officers called him an apostate (murtadd), told him he was suffering as a result of his conversion, and pressured him to revert to Islam. The convert stated that during the reporting period state security officers beat his wife on the abdomen while she was pregnant, causing her to hemorrhage. He also showed officials scars purportedly inflicted by governmental interrogators in previous years, including long scars on his back and sides and numerous deep, circular scars on his shoulder, reportedly caused by state security officers holding burning cigarettes against his flesh for long periods of time...."

"...Muslim convert [to Christianity] Muhammad al-Higazy remained out of public view throughout the year, reportedly fearing for his personal security following public death threats he received from his family and societal elements when he sued the Government in 2007 to acknowledge his conversion by issuing him identity documents that list his religion as Christianity."

"Maher Al-Gohary, another convert to Christianity who sued for the same right during the reporting period, also claims to live in hiding and has stated that he and his daughter have also received death threats."

"A female convert to Christianity who reported that she was severely abused while in state security detention fled when she was released on bail pursuant to official allegations that she procured a counterfeit identity document listing her religion as Christianity. She remained in hiding at the end of the reporting period, fearing abuse from her family and government forces...."

"...As of the close of the reporting period, the Government had not prosecuted any of the Bedouin villagers who assaulted the Abu Fana [Christian] monastery in May 2008, and those who concurrently kidnapped, physically abused, and reportedly attempted forcefully to convert several [Christian] monks ..."

Etc, etc…………

On Obama's watch, non-Muslims around the world are being terrorized and murdered as never before in many decades. So Obama is covering it up. After all, to talk about it publicly would do no good anyway, right? Maybe it would just inflame things into a worse condition for non-Muslims. So maybe that's the Obama admin's rationale, in addition to trying to get re-elected in a mostly non-Muslim nation that would look unkindly on Obama for presiding over the currently ongoing global terror against non-Muslims. Instead of "better red than dead," now it's "better dhimmi than dead." Obama, with his policy of censoring all references to Islam in relation to terror and oppression, may be the biggest dhimmi of all time.

If you look at polls of likely voters, as opposed to polls of eligible voters, Romney is ahead right now, by 1% (Rasmussen).

I am confused. When I went to the site for the Annual Report on International Freedom, I see a report that was issued from April 1, 2011 to February 29, 2012 not issued in September. Is this the one to which the Human Rights refers?

Annual Report of the
United States Commission on International Religious Freedom
March 2012
(Covering April 1, 2011 – February 29, 2012)

"DefenderofIslam" wrote, apropos of nothing:

.....................................

A great deal of weirdness here. First, note DoI's concept of "justice"—a "one minute trial" followed by an execution. That's Shari'ah in action!

Then, it is very unclear who, exactly, DoI is characterizing as "Islamist". Generally, there seem to be both Sunnis and Shi'ites there who can be so characterized.

He is right about one thing, though—Muslims regularly declare each other to be "not muslum" so that they they are fair game for oppression and murder.

What are his views on persecuted Christians? My guess is that he doesn't even consider them worthy of mention...
