Syria: At least 9,000 Christians flee their homes after persecution from Islamic supremacist rebels

The people the U.S. is backing in Syria are the ones who are doing this. More on this story. “Syrian Islamist opposition casts out Christians,” from RT, June 14 (thanks to Wimpy):

The Christian minority in Syria is facing a growing threat and thousands are being forced to flee their homes as they face harassment and discrimination from radial Islamist factions of the opposition.

At least 9,000 Christians from the western Syrian city of Qusayr were forced to seek refuge after an ultimatum from a local military chief of the armed opposition, Abdel Salam Harba, Fides news agency reports.

In the latest outburst of violence a Christian man was shot dead by a sniper in Qusayr, which neighbors the restive city of Homs.

There have been reports last week that some mosques in the city have announced from the minarets: “Christians must leave Qusayr within six days, which expires this Friday.”

Two Catholic priests who fled Qusayr confirmed to the news agency that they heard the ultimatum “with their own ears” repeated from the minarets.

“The situation is unsustainable in the area and exposed to total lawlessness,” Fides sources on the ground say. They also fear that the fate of Christians in Qusayr could soon affect the 10,000 believers who live in other villages in the area….

Those who wish to do something practical for these and for other Christians who are suffering persecution within dar al Islam, should go to the ‘Barnabas Fund’ website.

There, donations may be made that one can be *sure* will go directly to the displaced and destitute Christians; and one may also take part in the ‘Proclaim Freedom’ petition and letter-writing campaign by which Barnabas is attempting to ‘wake up’ the governments of free non-Muslim nations.

You will find their appeal for Syrian Christians linked here:

    And here is Proclaim Freedom:

If you identify yourself as a Christian, get multiple copies of this petition and do your darndest to persuade everyone in your congregation, and in your kin and social networks, to sign.

Even if you are not religious or antireligious or belong to a faith other than Christianity, you could consider taking part in ‘Proclaim Freedom’: this is at bottom about raising awareness, among ‘free’-world politicians, of the gross abuses of human rights and freedoms (which rights and freedoms include the right to manifest one’s faith, to explain one’s faith to others on request, and to leave or change one’s faith) perpetrated within Muslim lands. There are, of course, non-Muslim persecutors whom Barnabas ‘names and shames’ as well – most notably hideous North Korea – but the vast majority of states that persecute Christians and, excepting North Korea, the *worst* such persecutors, are Muslim. This is, at bottom, about defending freedom of expression and freedom of conscience; indeed, it is also about people’s *right to life*.

If you *are*, for example, Jewish or Hindu or Buddhist, then when you write to your elected representative, in Australia or in Canada or wherever, as well as mentioning the appalling and currently escalating Muslim persecution of Christians that goes on in all Islamic states, you could *also* mention some telling examples of Muslim Judeophobia and mistreatment of Jews, and of Muslim hatred of and attacks upon Hindus and Buddhists that goes on not just in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia and indonesia, or in Arab Islamic states where Hindus and Buddhists are ‘guest workers’, but that is *also* happening in Burma and Thailand, in Muslim-dominated provinces.

Does anyone remember the Muslim troll “Horse” from a year or so back’since banned”who would go on and on about what a paradise Muslim Syria was for Christians?

It was a ludicrous assertion at the time, and now it would be even more grotesque…
