Syria: Houla massacre blamed on Assad regime actually work of jihadi rebels

And the BBC illustrated its report on the Houla massacre with a ten-year-old photo from Iraq. All this goes to show: when it comes to jihad violence, you just can't trust the mainstream media. At all. Not even a little bit. "Report: Rebels Responsible for Houla Massacre," by John Rosenthal in National Review, June 9 (thanks to Anne Crockett):

It was, in the words of U.N. special envoy Kofi Annan, the “tipping point” in the Syria conflict: a savage massacre of over 90 people, predominantly women and children, for which the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad was immediately blamed by virtually the entirety of the Western media. Within days of the first reports of the Houla massacre, the U.S., France, Great Britain, Germany, and several other Western countries announced that they were expelling Syria’s ambassadors in protest.

But according to a new report in Germany’s leading daily, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), the Houla massacre was in fact committed by anti-Assad Sunni militants, and the bulk of the victims were member of the Alawi and Shia minorities, which have been largely supportive of Assad. For its account of the massacre, the report cites opponents of Assad, who, however, declined to have their names appear in print out of fear of reprisals from armed opposition groups.

According to the article’s sources, the massacre occurred after rebel forces attacked three army-controlled roadblocks outside of Houla. The roadblocks had been set up to protect nearby Alawi majority villages from attacks by Sunni militias. The rebel attacks provoked a call for reinforcements by the besieged army units. Syrian army and rebel forces are reported to have engaged in battle for some 90 minutes, during which time “dozens of soldiers and rebels” were killed.

“According to eyewitness accounts,” the FAZ report continues,

the massacre occurred during this time. Those killed were almost exclusively from families belonging to Houla’s Alawi and Shia minorities. Over 90% of Houla’s population are Sunnis. Several dozen members of a family were slaughtered, which had converted from Sunni to Shia Islam. Members of the Shomaliya, an Alawi family, were also killed, as was the family of a Sunni member of the Syrian parliament who is regarded as a collaborator. Immediately following the massacre, the perpetrators are supposed to have filmed their victims and then presented them as Sunni victims in videos posted on the internet.

Barry, Hillary, Cameron, Merkel, Hollande--all plyed for fools. And they are.

Great piece of work, traeh!

When it comes to reporting on matters going on in Syria, I would advise caution. There is a lot of disinformation coming out, and there are very few western reporters on the ground who may verify the stories being told.

I believe that in Syria there is no "good side" verses a "bad side", and I would be very careful before identifying Assad as some secular, moderate leader, fighting Jihadis. Assad himself is one evil SOB, who has sponsored Hamas and Hizbullah for many years.

Good grief.

And due to both cutbacks at newspapers and news agencies and the rise of frequently Jihad-friendly news outlets like Al-Jazeera, this sport of thing is only likely to become worse.

Add to this the fact that both Jihadists and Muslim tyrannies tend to target journalists for imprisonment and murder, and we are less likely all the time to get any kind of accurate information out of Jihad war zones.

I've noted before that Christians and Alawites are the ones who will suffer most if Assad falls. The Alawites, in fact, may be facing full-on genocide.

I believe most readers here are well aware of this, Oren. There really are no "moderates" here. I do believe, as noted, though, that if Assad is overthrown it will be disastrous for Christians and Alawites.

But you are quite correct—Syria sponsors Hamas and Hizb'allah, and is virtually a client state of brutal Iran.

Jihadists have become adept at playing the West - a la Mohammed's "War is deceit"
That's how Israel, the victim of persistent Muslim Jihad to wipe it out has now become the villian.
There was also the so-called Srebrenica massacre of Muslims, which was provoked by repeated Bosnian Muslims attacks on Serb villages.
Yet Serb heroes like Mladic are demonized as war criminals for protecting their people from Jihadist hordes.

This was obvious when it happened. It will be the case for the next massacre too. And the next. And the next. Unti there is one in which some Christian guys, out of cheeks, can't take any more, put aside the Bible, and really, actually take revenge. Then the UN observer vermin will really have a pretext to side with the Sunni jihadists and take out those awful Christians.

Al-Qaeda and its umbrella groups vs Hizboallah & Co.

Let them kill each other while trying to save non-pedohammedans, help them GTFO of Syria.

Brilliant work Traeh. Thanks a million.

Syrian issue for me is complicated, because I never heard any good news out of that country, I dpn't know what makes people think it is going to get better. I think Kofi is a clown as he always was. He is a clueless about Syria as he is about his own ability to solve any issue. During his tenure in the UN, there were all sorts of dealings went on with Sadam in Iraq while the sanctions were in place, and his own son was cutting deals with all kinds of misfits, and Kofi pretended he didn't know a thing. Well I didn't believe a word of it. Like many already pointed out, after the current regime the replacement can only be worse like Libya.

The murdering was done by government force. The only restion group in WWII who have tanks where Tito army of anti-nazie who captive many Germany and they repair then to form they own Tank Corp. There was tank track in the village with sign of arillary fire on the village.

DOI - you are so pathetic it makes me wonder if you ever watch and read any credible news coverage. The Syrians been purchasing Russian HW for a while. The reports about the Syrian government involvement been verified by a reputable German news paper to be untrue.

What is that in the Kuran people read screws their brains up to a state of near Zombie?

Go to a good schooling for a better education before you give any advice here.

Clearly, Western governments have initiated a propaganda offensive to prepare Western populations for an intervention in Syria, or, at a minimum, to solidify Western support for anti-Assad forces in Syria, which are increasingly being armed by the tyrannical monarchies of Arabia (ostensibly our friends and allies, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, the main funders of the anti-West predatory Jihad).

Anyone with a good memory of Bosnia will recall that the Bosnian (Muslim-dominated) government murdered on occasion its own civilians in Sarajevo (e.g., mortar bombardment on markets) and blamed the attacks on Bosnian Serbs to garner Western support. Despite clear evidence that this had happened, including testimony by U.N. observers, the lies stuck and contributed to Western outrage and later intervention.

There are many other tyrannies in the world besides that of the Assad regime, some just a bloody. Why are the "mass murder" and "genocide" in Syria suddenly all the rage in the media?

OT? CBS Evening News on Friday provided a very good segment on the Sunni vs Shia aspect of this civil war in Syria. An informative counter to the CNN/FOX narrative that "the gov't is killing everyone! We must intervene!"

Thank you, too, BlueRaven.

Thanks, traeh, for that link.

Stopped reading right there.

Tsk, tsk, tsk...

Most of the crimes in Syria, include ethnic cleansing, are committed by terrorist militia.

As for reports on Syria I recommend:

http://www.syrianews.cc/

It covers lots of English translations of the Russian language reports by anna-news.info

@gravenimage

Hamas isn't sponsored by Syria anymore. They are now sponsored by "our" allies: Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan:

http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/turkey-may-provide-hamas-with-300-million-in-annual-aid-1.409708

@Will Doohan

I't true that there is no "good side" and "bad side" in Syria.

Yet the U.S., i.e. the, is no good side either. If it were, how would you explain that the Obama administration "scrubs persecution of Christians from human rights report" (see Roberts June 8 post)?

Mitt Romney would be doing exactly the same!

So there is no "good side" and "bad side" in the U.S — both are bad.

Another link. Peter Hitchens, UK Daily Mail, reporting he'd received letters from Western women living in Syria which belie the press reports and at least hint at staged propaganda by jihadis.
You'll need to scroll down the article to find the piece which is headed "the truth seeps out of Syria"

I HATE BASHAR ASSAD

and post this with great reluctance, but according to an anti-Assad polling group in Qatar 55% of Syrians back his regime over the rebels. As the rebels are desperate to turn Syrian and world opinion against Assad they massacre Syrian civilians and blame it on the regime.

See: Most Syrians back President Assad – but you'd never know from western media | Jonathan Steele | The Guardian

The first thing to note is that this commenter "Oren Elbaz" has never appeared in Jihad Watch comments before, to my knowledge (and I assiduously browse nearly every thread).

Secondly, he's grievously incorrect. In any given Islamic hellhole, the reasonable rule of thumb for us Unbelievers to assess its welter of politics at any given time (whether during a "Spring" or not) is:

All sides are bad if they are Muslim.

To that rule of thumb we can add that any given political power in a Muslim region that is not strictly speaking "Islamic" (e.g., Druze, or as Hugh Fitzgerald used to say "islamochristian") is sufficiently infected by the Islamic virus as to be reasonably deemed bad.

That said, it doesn't mean we cannot at times exploit any given bad side in a Muslim hellhole to our advantage, in our pursuit of a Realislamik.

Most welcome, Wellington.

I hadn't heard about this, Tom—thanks for posting it. Appalling—but hardly surprising—that Jihadists would set up journalists just to make their enemies look bad.

Muslims always accuse the West of supposedly committing Jihad to "make Islam look bad", but it is clear that this is more projection.

I'm just glad that these journalists were sharp enough to figure out they were being set up before it was too late.

Thanks for posting that, Antifo. The situation is shifting fast, but my understanding is that Hamas has left Syria more for strategic than ideological reasons—it's hard to focus on killing Jews and destroying Israel when they're in the middle of a different war zone in Syria. And you're right—they've talked about relocating the headquarters to either Jordan or Qatar—two supposedly "moderate" regimes.

I believe Iran and even Syria are still funding them, though—although this has, for obvious reasons, become less of a priority for Syria right now.

But you are right—Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia are becoming more involved with this group. Although Egypt, even under Mubarack, has been playing footsie with Hamas ever since they took power in Gaza.

A big part of this is the Shi'ites "shaming" Sunnis over supporting Hamas—after all, every good Muslim want to be perceived as second to none when it comes to murdering Jews and destroying Israel. Ugh.

Useing my old contact in the former KGB they told me the Russian leadership told the Leader of Syria Government to stop the murdering of woman and childern by they force. The KGB is alot more Intelligence than the CIA or Robert Spencer is. The French Underground once awhile did capture Germany tanks to be use in operation but they later destory then as they have no seperate Tank Corp. Tito have it easy only fighting afew germany divisons. While in French there where over 40 divisons with half the population supporting the Nazie.

DOI - I think your understanding of the situation is hilarious. Are you writing from Pakistan or Afghanstan, because there are lots of folks over there think like you?

I am a little curious where did you read that bull crap you've written above?

A kind of friendly suggestion - if I were you I should quit Islam pdq because it making you appear like a circus clown. Go out and find a good American school in your vicinity where they teach good education.
