Maybe I'm wrong on this too but I've always heard that without an ISP's assist, GENERALLY one's home cannot be narrowed down except to a general area, but not pinpointed. Is this true or false? At first blush this looks like what you might expect from an enraged, truth-hating muslim fanatic. But I notice that never once in that rant does he say that HE'S going to kill anyone. He says he'll "find you all," and "your life will be a nightmare," and that "you're GOING to die." (Good prediction, since that's true for everyone) And then he spices it up with foul-mouthed rhetoric to try to lend it some gravitas.

I'm not trying to parse words here, just suggesting that this caller left himself a little window of plausible deniability. He may be just smart enough to know the difference between misdemeanor harrassment and a felony death-threat, i.e., a bit more clever than your average stupid muslim--which he's trying to project.

Re the Update: In my experience and in what others have told me about theirs, the authorities generally do not treat threats seriously. When you report one, and relate what was said or provide a recording etc., the authorities will immediately generate excuses and implausible counter-interpretations, all directed toward one obvious goal: To dismiss the person's complaint about the threat as quickly as possible. And that's how they deal with threats that don't have any added issues of political correctness attached. Add Islam to the mix and then you have a whole additional set of excuses and attitudes that the authorities can use to try to get rid of people who complain about threats.

Part of this I understand. The police, FBI, etc., after all have limited resources, and if they were to devote time and effort to every case where some angry idiot issues a threat or death threat, they would have time for nothing else. In this case, though, they either don't understand or else don't care about the fact that when a Muslim says he or she is going to kill you over some issue related to "disrespecting" Islam, they mean business. They either really do intend to kill you and would do so if they had the opportunity and the ability (violent jihad, vigilante jihad), or else they don't intend to kill you but want to use the threat tactically to subvert your freedom of expression (verbal, propaganda jihad), i.e., subvert freedom and democracy in order to impose their totalitarian system. Both are criminal acts and should be treated as such.

Prosecuting issuers of threats is indeed difficult. When you do track down people who make threats, once they know they might get in trouble, they'll then claim to the authorities they were only kidding (which is not plausible) or only had a moment of anger (which is sometimes plausible, but which does not excuse the threat), and that they are sorry; or they can claim they meant something other than the obvious meaning of the threat. (This is another reason why police don't like bothering with threats: The threat-issuer can make up all kinds of b.s. excuses after the fact and can readily pretend to retract his/her statements).

It's good to file the report to establish a record. Even if the FBI won't pursue this one particular threat, there is now a record at least of the incident. If the person were to threaten again, then the authorities would take more notice. However, this may not be very useful unless they trace the call and confront the caller who made the threat. Otherwise, they have no record that such-and-such an individual made the threat, only that ABN, Robert, Pamela, et al., are being subjected to threats--which I'm sure the FBI already knows.

As for their claims about a specific time and/or date, I disagree that this would indicate a more serious threat. For example, if someone threatened to kill me at such-and-such a time and place, besides notifying the authorities of that, I could simply avoid that place at that time. People who are serious about carrying out a threat won't tell you (and thus the authorities to whom you could report it) specifically when and where they plan to kill you. A general threat of this nature is far more dangerous to far more people, because, in addition to threatening Robert and Pamela and ABN, it is in effect a threat issued to everyone on the planet who follows the ABN and has critical thoughts about Islam and Muhammad. Threats of this nature have a huge political impact. They are essentially acts of terrorism, the use of terror and threat of violence and killing in order to advance, promote, or defend a political agenda.

Then they weren't paying attention. You have to really press your case with these authorities. The caller obviously was referring to "beliefs", which in this case were Islamic, beliefs which among other things require that Islam critics be killed...and all of this was in the context of the angry Muslim's response to a show involving critics of Islam criticizing Islam. Admittedly, the caller, as angry and murderous as he was in his obvious intent, managed to include various elements of deniability into his statement, which was probably planned, such that the recipients of the threat will know it is serious, whereas the clueless authorities will find some of the deniability plausible (due to their ignorance about Islam).

He sounds to me like a paid killer. He don't give a rats a** about beliefs. IMO he was reading a script someone else prepared, and he's in somebody's pocket.

Be careful Robert. But hopefully, if all of your enemies are as stupid as this one sounds, you don't really have to worry too much. I don't believe he could find anybody with the little brain power he exhibits in the message.

I thought I'd chime in because a few people brought it up -- The person in the phone call definitely does have an Arabic accent. He's a fluent speaker of English but his accent is still there. I had a roommate from Saudi Arabia and so I recognize some of the inflections and tendencies in this person's speech.
