Sharia in action: Islamic Republic of Iran misunderstands Islam, seeks to legalise marriage for girls under 10

Child marriage is rampant among those who believe that Muhammad is the supreme example of conduct (cf. Qur'an 33:21), but Islamic spokesmen in the West frequently assert that it is a cultural phenomenon that has nothing to do with Islam. They did not, however, tell the mullahs.

"The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with 'Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death)." -- Bukhari 7.62.88

Muslims take this seriously and imitate Muhammad in this. Article 1041 of the Civil Code of the Islamic Republic of Iran states that girls can be engaged before the age of nine, and married at nine: "Marriage before puberty (nine full lunar years for girls) is prohibited. Marriage contracted before reaching puberty with the permission of the guardian is valid provided that the interests of the ward are duly observed."

The Ayatollah Khomeini himself married a ten-year-old girl when he was twenty-eight. Khomeini called marriage to a prepubescent girl "a divine blessing," and advised the faithful: "Do your best to ensure that your daughters do not see their first blood in your house."

According to recently released statistics, in the past few weeks over 75 female children under 10 were forced to marry much older men. In 3929 cases, bride and groom were both under 14.
In a discussion of the issue organised by the Khabar Online news website, conservative law-maker and spokesperson for the Majles committee Mohammad Ali Isfenani said: "Before the revolution girls under 16 were not allowed to marry.

Parents determined to get around the law would often tamper with their daughter's birth certificate. Under the previous constitution, people were legally regarded as adults when they were 18. After the revolution the age at which children were regarded as going through puberty was lowered to 9 for girls and 15 for boys.

" [sic] He added: "As some people may not comply with our current Islamic legal system, we must regard 9 as being the appropriate age for a girl to have reached puberty and qualified to get married. To do otherwise would be to contradict and challenge Islamic Sharia law."

Yes—because the law just isn't fair to all those devout Muslims who want to "marry" a girl whose age is in the *single digits*...

Just look at the contradictions here. A ten-year-old has no secondary adolescent development like breasts. And if she also has not seen her "first blood", then in what manner has she "reached puberty"?

Only in the sense that pious Muslims simply declare that 9-year-old girls have reached puberty. This is just a final fig leaf for the civilized world.

No surprise that even under the Shah pious Iranians were working around the law to enable child rape. Still, obviously the safeguards were much higher then. And while they might have been able to fudge a year or two, I doubt they were able to convince authorities that second-graders were really 16.

It all comes back to the odious "Prophet" Muhammed and his rape of little 9-year-old Aisha. How many girls have suffered through the centuries because of one man's sacralized pedophilia?

Don't forget the Koran allows marriage to orphans (orphans are children without parents) and girls who have not yet menstruated (v65:4).

As pethetic as this all seems, in Islam Muhammad is the perfect man, whom could not do wrong. So the Islamic men al want to be like Muhammad. All women know this is impossible. But men want to believe it.

This raises the question, "do men not want to be seen with women? Or do the women not want to be seen with the men?

If you have no Muslims in your neighborhood you probably have not noticed this. But men and women are seldom seen together.
