(The proportions vary according to which part of Malaysia you are in - Sabah is 45 % non-Muslim and Sarawak is (or was, in 2001) 73 % non-Muslim.

The Muslims do not have an overwhelming majority: 60 % in Malaysia as a whole (and around 60 % in Peninsular Malaysia, which is where the capital, Kuala Lumpur, is located), but they are bullying everyone else unmercifully.

I'll bet that if one counted up all the 'places of worship' in Kuala Lumpur, the numbers would not reflect the percentages of adherents. That is, I'll bet that a lot more than 60 percent of the religious buildings are mosques, and that a lot less than 6 percent of the religious buildings are Hindu temples (and that a lot less than 19 percent of the religious buildings are Buddhist temples/ shrines and that a lot less than 9 percent are Christian churches).

I wonder how many new mosques have been built in, say, the past year, as opposed to new meeting places/ shrines for the other religious groups in Malaysia?

At this rate, the way the Muslims are treating the various non-Muslims - Christians, Hindus, Confucians/ Taoists, and Buddhists - they are going to find they have killed the goose (the de facto dhimmi) that lays the golden egg (the disguised jizya to which the Muslims are helping themselves).

They are going to wake up one day and find that they have their 'pure' Islamic state: that *all* the non-Muslims have packed up and left for fresher fields and pastures new in places like, for example, Australia. And then the Malay Muslims can sit in the midst of the absolute desolation that Islam always produces - Islam, someone once said, I cannot recall where, produces slums surrounded by deserts - and congratulate themselves on having achieved a condition of Islamic purity...

Followers of Hinduism, the most peace loving religion on earth should never allow the temple demolition. A religion that teaches and preaches hatred towards other religions is NOT a religion and should be condemned!

There was a time followers of Hinduism were peaceful and accommodative in India. But not anymore.There are instances of fanatic Hindus entering churhes in Mangalore and breaking up Jesus statues.

The Churches in Karnataka have faced increased attacks from Hindu groups since 2008 when pro-Hindu Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in the state. On September 14, 2008, about 20 churches were vandalized in Mangalore, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, and in other districts of the state.That was the reason that in Italy Christians prevented the Bangla Hindu community taking procession of Godess Gurga Devi idol on the main streets of Italy.

Was just in Kuala Lumpur about a week ago. I swear I passed this very temple.

Strange place to live in, mind you. 2/3 of under 30s women I'd say were dressed in hotpants, and certainly would be given a judgmental eye from many of us English. Condoms are sold in chemists in open view. It certainly does not seem "Islamic". But there's always the bubbling undercurrent, I guess.
