Great interview. Well done Michael. I wish you could have more time to expose Rauf for what he is. But, you did come a far way.
He refused to condemn Shariah.
He didn't condemn Jihad per se, i.e. warfare against infidel countries in order to protect and spread islam. He rejects jihad, which targets "innocent civilians". Unfortunately, he doesn't give us his definition of "civilian" and "innocent". He probably means muslims by this term. As was pointed out by Andy Chowdry, anyone who rejects Islam is guilty in the eyes of Allah.
Michael Coren, a fine interviewer, missed--as so many do--the opportunity to define extremism.
The extremism to which he refers is literalism.
Islam demands and expects literalism, and unwavering compliance with “Allah’s” every word. Every good Muslim knows that and; many try their best to comply.
Jihadists try very hard.
Asserting opposition to "extremism", to literalism, in Islam is a lie; a tap dance that Muslims perform for the benefit of we uninformed, filthy kuffar.
That the majority of the world's Muslims are, thankfully, not fully compliant with those commands does not change or negate them.
Muslim “extremists” are literalists. And Rauf is lying.
I liked the "hats off" /"heads off" exchange at the end of Robert's segment.
Extremism itself is not the problem; being extreme in the defense of rights, justice and liberty are not a problem. People who complain about "extremeism" really just mean "can't you just give me some of what I want today, and then I can ask for even more tomorrow."
At a four night lecture at a church in York Pa. about the subject of Islam during the question and answer period someone asked about the construction of the Ground Zero Mosque. One of the speakers was Rev. Joseph Moussa, he is an Arab Christian who had lived in Syria for many years. He said the construction of this Ground Zero Mosque will be taken as the message in the Middle East as "You see what we did here, we brought down the twin towers and build up a mosque." The other speaker,Dr.Daniel Shayesth, was in times past a Muslim and a Hezbollah menber but now a Christian said the the building of that mosques will be taken in the Muslim world as the message "We have killed and have been virtorious." Furthermore Dr. Shayesteh in his book ISLAM THE HOUSE I LIFT BEHIND on page 99 reads " The mosque is vital for establishing Muslims as sovereign over non-Muslims in a non-Islamic society. Building a mosque in a non-Islamic society or country symbolizies Islam's claim over that society or country, even with a non-Muslim majority."

LJ, Rauf was referring to Matthew 17: 20 (Jesus was instructing his disciples who wondered why they could not heal an epileptic) "Because of your ittle faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you."
me thinks he (Rauf) was intimating that the adherant (or is it the Mosque?) would be able to move the mountain by bringing in SHARIA, that new code (supposedly abrogating Moses), by which the follower of Muhammad (as contrived)fulfills the will of the Allah God (as imagined)... not so much for the good of all, but only for the good of the Mosque

Rauf also qualified his statement about civilians at the end and changed it to "innocent" civilians. We all know that when a muslim says innocent he only means muslims are innocent.
Notice how Rauf, with his jet-black Sean-Connery-cum-President-Karzai eyebrows on a balding salt-and-pepper=bearded head and his stylish Nehru-ish shirt under a Western jacket, frequently has recourse to various meaninglessly anodyne phrases by which to try to massage his oily way out of answering questions -- my favorite being "These are important issues to address..."
Rauf also likes to use the phrase that America has a "big footprint" in the Muslim world.

When pressed about Islamic intolerance towards non-Muslims Rauf attempted to create the impression that there is nothing in Islam that sanctions this because afer all "Jesus is one of our prophets." That's true, which makes Islamic hostility towards Christians more puzzling. Thinking about this I came to the conclusion that this is another example of Islams special rules of logic at work.

Mainstream Islam believes in a Last Days end time; and in their version of this, Jesus will return in order to lead a worldwide military jihad against Christians (and Jews).
Muslims don't respect Jesus qua Christian Jesus; they respect a fabricated "Issa" (Arabic for Jesus) who, in their minds and texts, was a Muslim prophet trying to tell people of the same "truth" which Mohammed finally was able to bring to the world 600 years later.

When Mohammedans say 'Jesus' is one of their prophets, they are engaging in doubletalk.
Because what they mean by 'Jesus' is **their** Islamic rewritten foe-fic parody, not the Jesus Christians know from the Gospels.
For more, see Australian scholar Dr Mark Durie who has written quite a bit about the Muslim 'Isa' and how he/ it differs from the Jesus of Christian scripture (and of Christian experience...).
The most extensive analysis is in his book 'Revelation? Do We Worship the Same God? Jesus, God, Holy Spirit in Christianity and Islam'. Not an expensive book, and very lucid and brief; it could be used to teach intelligent high-school kids how *not* to be suckered by Mohammedan 'interfaith' da'wa snake-oil salesmen. And it would be just as useful, incidentally, for Jewish kids as for Christians. Or for non-Muslims of other stripes - Hindu, say, or atheist - who see their naive Christian or Jewish friends/ colleagues/ neighbours being targeted by Muslim 'interfaith' 'Three Abrahamic religions' da'wa artists like Imam Rauf; such people should buy Durie's book and press it upon such Jews or Christians, begging and pleading for them to read it and get their heads straight. So as to *keep* their heads...
