New York Daily News calls for silencing of pro-freedom activists

The claim that I "inspired" the Norway mass murderer Breivik because he cited me in his "manifesto" has become a staple of Leftist and Islamic supremacist polemic against people who are trying to defend freedom against Sharia. But it founders on the facts: never mentioned is the fact that Breivik cited many, many people, including Barack Obama, John F. Kennedy, and Thomas Jefferson -- who are just three of the many who are never blamed for his murders.

Also swept under the rug is the fact that whether he is sane or not, Breivik's manifesto is actually quite ideologically incoherent -- so far was he from being a doctrinaire counter-jihadist that he wanted to aid Hamas and ally with jihad groups.

Above all, of course, the people who like to insist that I inspired Breivik are trying to establish the claim that my views lead inevitably to violence. Yet I've never advocated any kind of violence, but only legal means to defend the principles of freedom of speech and equality of rights for all people: the one thing that is nowhere in Breivik's "manifesto" or in any of the hit pieces blaming me for his murders is a quote from me calling for any kind of violence against anyone. In fact, when it came to violence, Breivik wasn't inspired by me at all, but himself explained that "we have drawn from al-Qaida and militant Islamists."

None of this matters, of course, to Reza Aslan's gunsel Nathan Lean, author of this Daily News farrago. Lean is so intent on protecting Islamic jihadis and supremacists and destroying opposition to them that he has knowingly republished lies about my record even after the truth became known to him (see this piece and especially its second update); and has repeatedly sent me detailed information about what he thinks are my whereabouts and my relatives, in a veiled but unmistakeable threat (an FBI agent has informed me that they're looking into Lean's threats to me).

It comes as no surprise that a thug like Lean would call for freedom fighters to be silenced; after all, he cannot refute us. And he has done it before. It is somewhat surprising that even a Leftist rag like the New York Daily News would publish such an open call for the subversion of the freedom of speech, but considering how abjectly the Left follows the Islamic supremacist agenda, it is not all that surprising. In any case, Lean calls below for freedom fighters to be "systematically" driven out of the public discourse -- he doesn't explain how this should be done, but mentions "judicial systems" in this connection. Apparently, if Lean had his way, those who oppose Sharia's contraventions of human rights would be given Stalinist show trials and jailed. If that does happen, thuggish enemies of freedom like Nathan Lean (who once ran afoul of the law for shouting obscenities at a City Council meeting) will be responsible for bringing it about.

"Expose the Islamophobia industry," by Nathan Lean in the New York Daily News, July 9 (thanks to David):

...The 33-year-old Breivik is charged with terrorism and murder. On Aug. 24, judges will announce if he is sane enough for prison. The 10-week proceedings against him resembled a freak show more than a judicial event: Shoe throwing, self-immolation and far-right salutes were among the happenings that animated a normally humdrum process.

What was absent from the scene, though, was blunt discussion of the anti-Islam ideology that influenced Breivik and caused him to be so fearful of Muslims that his only response was to slaughter fellow citizens whose politics he blamed for their presence.

Breivik carried out his bloodbath alone, and his idiosyncrasies give him the appearance of a sociopath. But his delusions are hardly products of his imagination. Instead, they are the workings of a cabal of fear merchants who roam the post-9/11 world scaring people about Islam.

I don't scare anyone about Islam. Who scares people about Islam? Naser Abdo, the would-be second Fort Hood jihad mass murderer; Khalid Aldawsari, the would-be jihad mass murderer in Lubbock, Texas; Muhammad Hussain, the would-be jihad bomber in Baltimore; Mohamed Mohamud, the would-be jihad bomber in Portland; Nidal Hasan, the successful Fort Hood jihad mass-murderer; Faisal Shahzad, the would-be Times Square jihad mass-murderer; Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, the Arkansas military recruiting station jihad murderer; Naveed Haq, the jihad mass murderer at the Jewish Community Center in Seattle; Mohammed Reza Taheri-Azar, the would-be jihad mass murderer in Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Ahmed Ferhani and Mohamed Mamdouh, who hatched a jihad plot to blow up a Manhattan synagogue; and Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the would-be Christmas airplane jihad bomber -- they scare people about Islam. All of them and many others invoked the Qur’an and Sunnah to explain and justify their deeds. That's what scares people about Islam.

Breivik’s 1,500-page manifesto offers a clear view of the people and ideas that shaped his actions.

“About Islam, I recommend essentially everything written by Robert Spencer,” Breivik gushed in one of 162 shout-outs to the blogger, whose website is a one-stop shop for everything anti-Muslim. Spencer has waged a populist campaign against “stealth jihad,” “creeping Sharia” and even Campbell’s soup (which offers halal-certified cans of its famous products).

Actually, I just pointed out that Campbell's was using Hamas-linked ISNA to certify its halal food as halal, but don't go to Nathan Lean for facts.

Breivik cited Spencer’s partner, blogger Pamela Geller, 12 times. Geller and Spencer co-founded Stop Islamization of America, the American branch of a European hate franchise, Stop Islamization of Europe, a group whose soccer hooligan members have whipped the populations of Britain and Denmark into nationalistic frenzies.

It looks as if Nathan Lean has a future as a fiction writer.

SIOE’s motto states: “Racism is the lowest form of human stupidity but Islamophobia is the height of common sense.” Both Geller and Spencer organized the vitriolic protests against the Park51 Islamic Center in 2010.

Breivik mentioned Frank Gaffney, who runs the Center for Security Policy, seven times. Gaffney provides legal counsel for Spencer and Geller and is famous for decrying the threat of Sharia law and claiming that President Obama is in cahoots with the Muslim Brotherhood. He is also on the board of the Clarion Fund, a group that produced the now-infamous anti-Muslim film “Obsession.” Breivik’s manifesto linked to that movie 10 separate times.

No one denies that violent adherents of any religion are a serious threat. But Spencer, Geller and Gaffney and their ilk see Muslim demons in every shadow.

That’s had pernicious consequences. In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, anti-Muslim sentiment in the U.S. was at low levels. Two months after the attacks, polls showed that 59% of Americans had a favorable opinion of Muslims . Eleven years later, Islamophobia is at a record high. Half of Americans report that they would be uncomfortable with a woman wearing the burqa, a mosque being built in their neighborhood or a Muslim man praying in an airport. This despite the fact that Muslim-led attacks inside the U.S. have dwindled over the same course of time.

The Islamophobia industry insists that it is not just a fringe minority who distort an otherwise peaceful faith. Instead, they point to the Koran and suggest that terrorists derive their world views from its messages. If that is so, these anti-Muslim agitators are guilty based on the logic of their own argument. After all, Breivik read and interpreted the writings of people like Spencer and Geller. He deciphered their diatribes much like Osama Bin Laden interpreted the Koran. Both men were compelled to act on the messages they digested.

The Qur'an calls for violence against unbelievers (2:190-193; 4:89; 9:5; 9:29; 47:4); we do not.

Society has a responsibility to counter these individuals with overwhelming overtures of pluralism — and to systematically push the fearmongers out of public discourse. The consequences of inaction are grave. Just as Bin Laden had several copycats, so too may Breivik. In his closing statement, the Norway killer said that, “My brothers in the Norwegian and European resistance movements are sitting and watching this case while they plan new attacks.”

Judicial systems must absorb the true scope of the Islamophobia industry’s rhetoric and rage. In the case of Breivik, examining the role of anti-Muslim sentiment would have been a logical first step. A second would be finding Breivik “sane,” and acknowledging that his plot was not the result of a deranged mental state but the product of a twisted ideology that turns the fearful and unstable into holy warriors.

Nathan Lean, the pathological sociopath that looks like Breivik

http://bit.ly/MRSBid http://bit.ly/Njphvp http://bit.ly/NkeAfv

Coincidence? i don't believe in coincidences.

The Islamophobia industry insists that it is not just a fringe minority who distort an otherwise peaceful faith.

That's the old worn out teeny, weeny, tiny, minority of extremists who misunderstand and twist the Quran mantra...
No one has ever identified just how many are a 'tiny minority', there seems to be a lot of them...

Anyway, it's cleat Lean has been drinking ugly juice and it has effected his mind...

In " Expose the Islamophobia industry ", by Nathan Lean ( Be our guest, 7/9/12 ), the disingenuous Lean conveniently leaves out an abundance of facts in his hatchet job on Robert Spencer and Pamella Geller.

Does the Daily News plan on offering Spencer a spot on " Be our guest ", to refute the lies and propaganda of Nathan Lean ?

Spencer has in fact already addressed this smear on his Jihad Watch website - will the Daily News print Spencers response ?

The NYDN is nothing more than a celebrity scandal sheet, pretty much a daily National Enquirer. It has limited editorial content, and for the most part is not taken seriously by New Yorkers. Thirty or so years ago, it was a reasonable local paper, but it has embraced the internet age and become a total rag. Quite the shame, actually.

This piece is a perfect example of the Islamic strategy in the West. They seek to create a moral equivalence between violent Muslim extremists like Al Quaeda, and non-violent intellectual critics of Islam like Spencer and Gellar. Then, they make their phony appeal for everyone to support the "sane middle ground" between these two groups---which essentially is to offer the West this deal: if you don't criticize Islam, Muslims won't be violent. The "sane middle ground" that they offer is Sharia law, where criticism of Islam is not allowed. They dress up their offer in polite verbiage and eloquent "moderate, reasonable" terms, but at the end of the day, it's still the same extortion that Islam always offers.

The idea that people should be free to express negative opinions about Islam or Muhammad is a concept that is not, and has never been, accepted by the vast majority of Muslims.

Indeed, freedom of speech is not negotiable.

I knew that Breivik's deeds would come up over and over again so as to silence those who are sounding the alarm about Islam.

As far as I can tell, as a nation (and, indeed, almost the entire West) will voluntarily go into submission via dhimmitude. Sheesh.

Nathan Lean writes:

"a European hate franchise, Stop Islamization of Europe, a group whose soccer hooligan members have whipped the populations of Britain and Denmark into nationalistic frenzies."

I speak as a Dane: is this Mr Lean quite right in his head?

Robert you deserve a standing ovation for this. you truly are smart.

I guess Lean didn't have to run from the WTC as it fell into the streets.

Apparently the First Amendment is in danger of being the victim of an honor killing. I applaud the list of jihad terrorists --Naser Abdo through Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab --above in Robert's comments. And that even leaves out the 19 9/11 hijackers or shoe bomber Richard Reed! Those sorry swine are behind the airport delays we face every time we fly. Taking off your shoes at the airport? Thank a Muslim!

Also, I am sorry to say I had no idea who exactly his employer Reza Aslan is (except for the infantile emails he sends saying he refuses to read Spencer's emails). So I Googled him and got this ridiculous tripe from 2009 http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1905459,00.html reminiscing about good old days of the Iranian revolution. He didn't seem bothered by the 52 Americans held hostage for more than a year. His predictions about Iran are hysterically wrong, just as his later Arab Spring analysis was laughable. Perhaps that is what Lean fears so much: having his gravy-train at Aslan Media exposed as the laughable ass he is.
So, do Lean and Aslan actully lobby in America for the murderous Iranian regime? Aslan bills himself as an activist, but I do not know what he advocates for.

ok, so according to Nathan Lean, a terrorist (Breivik) was influenced by the writings of Robert Spencer and therefore Robert is a fearmonger who should be shut up.

There are tens of thousands of other terrorists who openly claim getting inspiration from Muhammad/Quran/Islam. Would someone please ask Lean if he has ever asked of Muhammad to be declared a fearmonger whose message should be shut up? If no, why not? What is different?

If Robert Spencer is responsible for Anders Breivik, go bet the farm that Noam Chomsky, Saul Alinsky, Bill Ayers, and a host of other '60's and '70's radicals are responsible for 9/11. After all, they helped create a climate where knee-jerk hatred of the USA and uncritical sympathy for all of its haters as "aggrieved victims of imperialist oppression" in which political violence is condemned only when it is used by the center or right against the left's political clients. Beginning with solidarity with the Algerian revolution and the Falastin Arabs (and never mind that the fifteen times accursed USA gave passport-carrying, property-owning, voting-rights citizenship to more victims of An-Nakhbar and their descendants than any seven revolutionary Arab regimes put together), the Left has moved on to embrace the whole Jihadi movement.

Deport Noam Chomsky to either North Korea or [still colonized] Sharki Turkistan ASAP!

Not only that but BinLaden quoted from Noam Chomsky, Robert Fisk, William Blum and the Royal Institute for International Affairs. Using NY Daily News logic, they are also somewhat responsible for 911.

To say that someone who writes against the abuses of religion is responsible for violence is plain nutty. Our country is founded on freedom of speech and freedom of religion. With that comes the freedom to criticize someone's speech or someone's religion. Islamic followers obviously can't take it. If their adherents can't take it, then they need to go sit in the corner and be quiet. Someone who speaks against Islam's practice of jihad does not by that cause anti-Islamic violence if such a thing exists. Does speaking out against the sex scandal in the Catholic church cause violence against Catholics? Of course not. The freedom to follow or criticize someones religion is our right as Americans. Just because Islam is violent does not exempt it from criticism. Criticism does not cause it to be violent, it by its nature is violent. Muslim's have no one to blame but themselves.

It probably hasn't escaped the notice of the more observant readers of Jihad Watch that the alliance of the Left and Islam reflects the same agitprop strategies, chief among which is that when the Left's or Islam's policies fail, or produce disasters, or cause deaths, or provoke hostility among the electorate, blame for it is shifted elsewhere. When Obama's policies produce the opposite of his alleged goals, he blames Bush (when in fact Obama's policies are a continuation of Bush's go-soft socialism); when Muslims murder, torture, rape, go on rampages, or otherwise resort to violence anywhere in the world to enforce conformity to their ideology, their spokesmen in the West blame "extremists." The ideology is never at fault, only its "misunderstanders."

Thus, as Robert points out in this column, anyone who criticizes Islam is a "misunderstander" who spreads "lies" and "fabrications" and so on about the perils of Islam and can be shunted to the same camp as actual jihadists. Then a leap of logic can be performed and Muslim violence can be attributed to criticism of Islam. The Left and Islamists "abhor" violence, express "regret" when violence occurs, and do not blame the perpetrators, but instead the "instigators" of the violence, that is, those who exercise their freedom of speech by pointing out the evils and fraud of Islam and the consistent violence its ideology encourages and promulgates.

It's six of one, half a dozen of another. The Left and Islam both promote collectivism and universal submission and subjugation to them. Of course they're allies. France recently elected a blatant socialist to head the country with the help of its Muslim population. Has anyone in this country heard a single Muslim speak out against Obamacare? Has any British Muslim spoken out against Britain's welfare state? No? Why not? Because to oppose collectivism one must advocate individual rights, and it is individual right that the Left and Islam wish to extinguish.

"Not only that but BinLaden quoted from Noam Chomsky, Robert Fisk, William Blum and the Royal Institute for International Affairs. Using NY Daily News logic, they are also somewhat responsible for 911."

Blaming ideas and people for human actions is a stalinist method that carries the insulting implication that regular people do not have a brain and succumb to influences....

Therefore it is an insult to the minds of the readers of the Daily News.

If the abovementioned readers do not react ( to having been insulted ), it will be noted somewhere that they are well conditioned and able to take more propaganda...

The lack of reaction has plunged many nations into disaster.

Reader's passivity is diligently cultivated by the mainstream media, and the quoted article could very well be an experiment on a large scale, and an attempt to cultivate willing voters for Obama.

Free press? Give me a break.

Brandon O'Connor says:
"Blaming ideas and people for human actions is a stalinist method that carries the insulting implication that regular people do not have a brain and succumb to influences...."

I have problems with this sentence.

1- Blaming people for human actions is ok with me but the people I would blame ultimately is the people doing the actions. Perhaps, and this is iffy, also people that encourage the person to do the action but ultimately, it is the actual person that commits the action who gets the blame in my perspective. People can encourage me to do something evil but I always have the choice in a free society to reject their "encouragement".

2- Blaming ideas is also ok with me, particularly ideas that the aforementioned people (doing evil actions) have in their minds.

In my mind the issue is extrapolating from the ideas my enemy has (John's idea is wrong for X and Y reason) to (John needs to be eliminated or John's house needs to be burned because he has the wrong idea). That's where the Stalinism comes from.

Robert Spencer says: There are issues in Islam.
Breivik jumps to the conclusion: Liberals must be murdered.

There are obvious problems with logic here but as the professor said: They don;t teach logic in schools anymore.

Now some liberals accept Breivik's fallacy and do their own illogical arguments:

Breivik wants to kill liberals because RS said there are issues in Islam. Therefore liberals need to (not refute RS) silence RS or better put: If liberals silence RS, crazy people will not want to kill liberals(!!!)

There are logic problems galore with this situation.

The best approach is take the idea where the idea takes you and no further.

If RS says there are issues with Islam, that's his argument to be refuted.

Now if RS says eliminate people, he would have crossed the line in my book and that idea has to go.
