Obama's CIA considers Israel its No. 1 counterintelligence threat in the agency's Near East Division

U.S. national security officials consider Israel to be, at times, a frustrating ally and a genuine counterintelligence threat.

Then what do they consider Afghanistan/Pakistan to be? At least Israel isn't going to betray them like that bunch of shysters in the Pakistani security services.

So the CIA sends agents to Israel and they complain that they're being watched?. So if Israel sends Mossad agents to the U.S. would they be left alone?.

It's perfectly reasonable for the US to consider Israel its strongest counterintelligence threat in the Mideast in the sense that Israeli intelligence is much more competent than that of other countries. On the other hand, other Middle Eastern countries, Israel is unlikely to use any information gained against the US.

Depends what is meant by "threat." As to WMD terrorism, it's obvious that Israel is no threat to the U.S., whereas the nations roundabout Israel are a threat to the U.S.

But it's also obvious that Israel's intelligence organizations are infinitely superior to those of other Middle East nations, for the very same reasons that U.S. intelligence is generally superior, and ancient Greek warfare was generally superior, to that of the East: liberty and technology make for the most formidable military forces. Victor Davis Hanson's best book, Carnage and Culture, makes that clear, I think.

In terms of intelligence only, then, our ally Israel is a "threat" -- things U.S. officials might want kept secret from Israel will in some respects be less secure than things the U.S. wants kept secret from, say, the incompetent Iranian government. But surely the U.S. is also notorious for spying on all and sundry, including allies?

Israel's intelligence is probably no more active in trying to ferret out U.S. secret activities in the Middle East, than U.S. intelligence is active in trying to ferret out Israeli secret activities in the Middle East.

Well,when he was in the foreign service, Uncle Kepha was told that there's no such thing as a friendly foreign intelligence agency--that includes the British and Canadians, too. And since we're talking about Israel, remember Jonathan Pollard, anyone?

Seriously, even countries with LOTS of shared interests try to read each other's mail, so they say. There are also lots of things the Israelis know that we'd also like to know.

This being said, Uncle Kepha would love to see the CIA improve exponentially in its ability to gather human intelligence. But, one of our problems is that every so often, the USA gets very high-minded and wouldn't dream of having its brilliant college-educated boys and girls do anything so dastardly as dangle bait in front of foreigners who'd like to betray their own country; or someone hacks into our secrets and broadcasts them to the world. Note how several Afghans and Pakistanis who helped us track down leading Taliban and Osama Bin Laden were outed in the Wikileaks, and whacked shortly afterwards (Julian Assange getting blood for fifteen minutes of fame, as it were). Perhaps one of the biggest problems our spooks have is that the whole world knows that the USA can't keep a secret.

I seem to remember the US deporting Israelis that were "spying" in the US, that is, were following all kinds of Arabs engaging in "innocuous" activities such as taking flying lessons and other stuff, before 9/11 and alerting the US about it TWO years before 9/11.

As a patriotic American it hurts me to say this but it's in Israel's national security and survival interests to keep a wide open covert eye on the most anti-Israel, pro-Islamist, un-American US administration in history.

I have no special information about this, but I would bet medium sized money that this story was leaked to AP specifically to draw attention away from the Huma Abedin / Muslim Brotherhood / national security question.

The timing is just too suggestive.

Beyond that, if you read the AP story itself, there is very little in it that could be called news. Only some speculative fluff about what might or might not have happened to a piece of equipment in a CIA person's home in Tel Aviv.

It just looks and smells like a put up job.

My thought is that the BO admin. has reached a new low of open Jew-baiting -- the old divided loyalties thing -- the international Jewish conspiracy. And is using it to distract from an actual, factual anti-American loyalties (not divided loyalties) problem with Muslim Brotherhood operatives in the US gov't.

WHY IT DOESN’T MATTER IF OBAMA IS A MUSLIM OR NOT

Obama is not a Muslim.

For the sake of this short essay, one is asked to concede, for the moment, this assertion.

The need for concession actually helps makes the argument –the suspension of belief is needed to suspend disbelief: It doesn’t matter if our President is a Muslim, or not.

It doesn’t matter if Obama is a secret Muslim, either, and it doesn’t matter that his overt actions point dangerously to the suspicion. The evidence is too lengthy to go into – literally – but one might mention the Muslim Botherhood and his vocal and policy-based “statements” in support of it.

See, the thing is; Obama is deathly afraid of the Muslims, at heart, because he is not actually stupid, but rather, ignorant.

This is why he has delayed the Hassan Nidal tribunal and the Guantanamo problem as long as possible. This explains his drone campaign against strictly Muslim targets. This is why his transfers of prisoners out of Guantanamo were not done secretly, as Bush did, but publicly (enough) to throw a bone to his anti-war, PC-infested voting bloc. He knows, however, that another (just one more) major attack on America by Muslims would absolutely doom his chances at re-election and his entire legacy as President.

If such a thing were to occur, he would forever be viewed as the “weak” President who came after Bush, (his whipping boy) who, (at very least), kept us safe from another biggie during the rest of his first and the entirety of his second administration. Above all, Obama seeks to placate the Muslim countries, at all costs, and at the expense of Israel if prudent to his agenda. The safety of America and our armed forces and the survival of Israel are secondary to his ego aggrandizement.

Obama is not a religious man – he’s a pure, Chicago political animal – he really doesn’t give a hoot about your particular religious persuasion – just whether or not you are in his camp. Hence, the almost Vaudevillian “inclusion” of all the strangest people from the left in his administration and its advisors – from William Ayers to Janet Napolitano to Huma Abedin to Mohammed ElBiary.

It is almost sickening to consider – but in the purest sense – we’re screwed, (at least until January 2013) because Obama doesn’t have a clue to the real dangers of Islam, despite his “Islamic” upbringing and his Muslim father. Believe me, (even if you don’t want to) if Obama were a “real” Muslim, he’d say it flat-out and he’d be praying in the Oval Office five times per day.

The size of his ego would demand it.

No…he’s just a Narcissist without a clue, who years ago hitched his community organizer wagon to the multi-culti inclusion train because he loves the power of elected office.

Basically, he and his wife are moochers – vengeful moochers who seek to get back at Whitey (and the British and the Jews and the Banks and small business owners and the Catholic Church and the State of Arizona, etc.) any way they can. If including Muslims in the deal on a domestic and international basis increases his chances of re-election and/or avoids disaster, then he will embrace the idea. He would embrace the Devil, I’m convinced, if need be.
