I do not see Obama as a closet Muslim. However, he indeed is a man of the immoderate Left and a reflexive supporter of Muslims chiefly because he sees Muslims as historic victims of Western colonialism, of which Israel is merely one more manifestation. He's also moved most of his adult life in circles that have had a soft spot for Islam ever since _The Autobiography of Malcolm X_ was published.

Obama is too "evolved" on issues related to the sexual revolution (at least, I should hope, as long as they don't claim his wife and daughters) to be much of a sympathetic figure for Muslims in the know about both their religion and Obama's political positions.

Further, I've heard it from people with connections to churches in the District off Columbia that the Obamas have done some church shopping among the African-American churches there. These, of course, are churches that may possibly put little emphasis on doctrinal content; although I would be curious to know what may be being said in some of them now that the O has "evolved" to the point of endorsing homosexual marriage. And, seeing how the O operates, such explorations of DC churches may be more of a political move than a spiritual one; although charity compels me to at least hope there's a search for spiritual sustenance (which, hopefully, may lead to a more meaningful faith in Jesus Christ--but that is in God's hands rather than mine).

Most seriously conservative Americans (Christopher Buckley being an exception) have always been suspicious of Obama--and it isn't just a race issue. Pro-life circles have long noted Obama's support for keeping late-term partial birth abortion legal while serving as an Illinois state senator. Obama's finding his political mentors among members of the Far Left, including former home-grown terrorist William Ayers and his cultivation of others in that end of the spectrum (such as "Troofer" Van Jones) have also raised suspicions about the O.

Many of us have seen the O as a combination of cunning, devious mole in our political system and invented legend of a Left-leaning media. We note that his supposed "intelligence" is marred by a paucity of bibliographic references to his supposed scholarship, his dependence on the teleprompter when speaking, and his tendency to fly to flinders when up against anything other than adulation (viz., his run-ins with Joe the Plumber).

Unfortunately, the younger Pres. Bush was a polarizer, and made even more so by a hostile media,so I think that Obama's propensity to continue to blame Bush for the country's problems will probably resonate with too many of our voters.

As for Obama's bowings and scrapings to the Islamic world, I chalk that up to the common conceit that America and the West in general are the only actors in world history, and hence if there are kinks in our relationships with the Islamic world, it has to be "our" fault. After all, we have it on the authority of Karl Marx that those people are "historyless".

Be warned that I'm one who didn't vote for Obama in 2008 and won't vote for him in 2012.
