ISLAMABAD—Thousands of people dragged a Pakistani man accused of desecrating Islam's holy book from a police station in central Pakistan, beat him to death and then set his body on fire, a police official said Wednesday....
A senior police officer, Mohammed Azhar Gujar, said in the incident Tuesday in Bahawalpur, a city in a deeply conservative part of central Pakistan, attackers stormed a police station where the man was being interrogated.

Gujar said the victim seemed to be mentally unstable. He was arrested after residents said he threw pages of the Qur’an into the street.

While the man was being questioned, some people started making announcements over mosque loudspeakers, urging residents to go to the police station and punish him.

Within hours, thousands gathered outside and demanded the man be handed over to them. Gujar said police tried to protect him, but the mob turned violent.

They burned several police vehicles and wounded seven officers before grabbing the man and dragging him into the street, where he was beaten to death and his body set on fire.

Gujar said the mob also attacked the house of an area police chief and burned his furniture and possessions.

It was unclear whether the man was Muslim, a member of Pakistan's Christian minority or belonged to another religion. His name was not released.

Pakistani Christians live in fear of being arrested under the blasphemy laws, which critics say are often misused to settle personal scores or family feuds....

We Americans beat ourselves over the head continually about the legacy of lynch law in our country. But when was the last American lynching? Is there anyone in Pakistan, apart from religious minorities, who is seriously bothered by reports like the one here?

perhaps time to expose the pakistanis in the UK by publicly burning a few pages of the koran. Ooops I'd need to buy one first. I DID ask Ibrahim Hooper for his promised free copy but he declined to reply.
Maybe that was a defective story or maybe "ibrahim" is just a liar. Sort of fits with islamic values eh?

The best thing that happened to the non-Muslims in the Indian subcontinent was the partition of the population into India and Pakistan. I cannot bear to think how much worse off India would have been if it had a few hundred million more followers of the Religion of Peace.

I feel sorry for the remaining non-Muslims in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Their numbers are dwindling and in a decade or so, the non-Muslims will be put out of their misery.

You could almost say, "oh wait a minute, it did."

I contacted my local paper, the Press Enterprise in Riverside CA if they were looking into it and if they'd ask the member of CAIR who sits on the Human Relations Commission if they'd ask him his thoughts on the incident.

I wonder what my chances are of hearing from them?

My God, what homicidal madness.

My husband and I were on BART (the San Francisco Bay Area subway and rapid transit system) last Saturday returning from a Giants game.

There was a disheveled man wandering around the cars yelling "Jesus Christ is a bitch-ass punk!". He was plainly mentally ill, and possibly drunk or high as well.

Other passengers just kept one eye on him lest he prove violent, but otherwise ignored him. If he had proven a serious problem, someone would have called BART police to talk to him. As long as he was not violent, the very worst thing that could have happened to him would be that the police would have taken him off the train at the next station.

The idea that the passengers—a fairly significant number of whom were, just statistically, probably Christian—would have turned on this man and have *beaten him to death* is just inconceivable.

"Mosque loudspeakers"—in other words, this was not just a random murderous mob, horrific as that is—this mob was got up by *Muslim clerics*.

Imagine the scene above on BART, if a priest or minister had begun exhorting the crowd to murder the "blasphemer". Having a hard time imagining such a thing? Me too...

Not in Dar-al-Islam, though, where this sort of thing is a not uncommon occurrence.

God, I hate Islam.

I noticed that bit about the mosque loudspeakers whipping up the mobs to kill, too.

So this article has been filed in three places.

First, it went into an e-clippings file: 'apostasy and blasphemy file III' (that's because once a file gets beyond a certain size it gets too unwieldy and difficult to search through for a specific item).

Then, it went into 'mosques behaving badly'.

And it went into a file that involves stories specifically mentioning incitement to violence over mosque loudspeakers, entitled 'mosque loudspeakers bad news'.

The 'apostasy and blasphemy' collection of stories is very large.

The two collections of stories about mosques, and what is screeched over the loudspeakers far too often, are not small, either.
