Hey Raymond, I've noticed this verse on concubinage is oft overlooked by Muslims and non-Muslims when discussing slavery and concubinage. What's your opinion regarding the two highlighted parts:

Koran 33:50

O Prophet, We have made lawful for thee thy wives whom thou hast given their wages and what thy right hand owns, spoils of war that God has given thee, and the daughters of thy uncles paternal and aunts paternal, thy uncles maternal and aunts maternal, who have emigrated with thee, and any woman believer, if she give herself to the Prophet and if the Prophet desire to take her in marriage, for thee exclusively, apart from the believers -- We know what We have imposed upon them touching their wives and what their right hands own -- that there may be no fault in thee; God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.

So, the Koran seems to clearly allow the taking of captives of war to be used as "concubines" and in another part of the verse explicitly differentiates touching your wives *AND* what your right hands own.

Do Muslim scholars often cite this verse when discussing concubinage and slavery?

All this reminds me of a joke.

Oh **my God**.

I keep thinking that I know so much about Islam at this point that nothing can shock me, and then *Islam proves me wrong*.

I have become increasingly worried about Egypt, of course, but even I didn't believe they were so far down the road as to openly have *sex slaves* at this point.

And who is this poor woman, who has "a non-Egyptian accent"? This likely means she is non-Arab—traditionally the favorite slaves of Arab supremacist Muslims. It was hard to tell from the picture.

The owner-husband, Abd al-Rauf Awn, then appeared on the show, identifying himself as an Islamic scholar and expert at Islamic jurisprudence who studied at Al Azhar.

In other words, this **slave owner** is a scholar for the *most prestigious institution in Sunni Islam*.

He may face some disagreement from fellow Al Azhar scholar Dr. Abdullah al-Naggar, but it sounds as though al-Rauf Awn has the appalling texts of Islam on his side.

Just let *this* sink in. This distinguished "scholar" is telling any woman who wants freedom from Hijab that her only other option is *sex slavery*.

The other guest on the show, Dr. Abdullah al-Naggar, a professor of Islamic jurisprudence at Al Azhar, fiercely attacked Awn for reviving this practice, calling on him and his slave-wife to "repent" and stop dishonoring Islam, arguing that "there is no longer sex-slavery"—to which Awn responded by sarcastically asking, "Who said sex-slavery is over? The only reason as much of the Muslim world gave up slavery as it did was due to Western pressure in the 19th and 20th centuries. There was never a Muslim William Wilberforce, a Muslim Harriet Beecher Stowe, or a Muslim Abraham Lincoln.

Will the Egyptian government go after al-Rauf Awn for having a *sex slave*? I'm not sure we can count on it...

I wonder how many more women will suffer because of this?

Rochdale in England has a very high percentage of Muslims. Co-incidentally it has a very high number of privately run children's homes, with children being brought from all over England.

Reading between the lines of this report, it seems that some of these homes may be Muslim-run pedophile brothels:

The government has published plans to combat the sexual exploitation of children in care homes in England by gangs.

The new measures announced include new regulations to make it far harder to place children in care homes outside their home boroughs, and plans to streamline data to get a clearer picture of who goes missing from care.

Ministers also pledged a wide-ranging review of all aspects of the quality and effectiveness of children's homes, including management, ownership and staffing.

A working group will consider

why some local authorities send children to homes outside their own borough
whether such placements can meet children's needs
how well the quality of care is monitored
whether areas such as Rochdale where there are high concentrations of children's homes are really the best "places for bringing up our most vulnerable looked after children"...

Logic is a law of life, in that we get no choice. We only get a choice about the ideas and premises we adopt. Although frankly, most people are entirely passive in the matter and adopt whatever ideas are floating in the culture around them, in about the proportion that they are present in others. We don't have to be passive about it, but most people choose to be.

And ideas will, like it or not, tend to lead people to the open expression of the ideas they adopt. And will tend to lead people to the logical conclusions of the ideas they adopt.

Logic is a force of nature. We tend to be driven by it. Like it or not.

All this 7th century stuff is going to keep coming out, stronger and stronger.

If SOMETHING more compelling were very widely adopted and acted on, energetically, there might be an alternative course available.

But all indications are that the Mohammedan parts of the world are on a set course.
