MONTREAL - Catherine Deboucherville screamed sporadically for more than 30 minutes in her home Thursday morning and not one of her neighbours called the police.

Deboucherville, 44, was allegedly stabbed to death in front of her two children.

Police said that it was one of her kids who called 911 to say that their mother was being attacked.
One neighbour reportedly said the screams started around 8 a.m. Yet police were only called to the scene about an hour later.

Police arrested Deboucherville's husband, AHMAD NEHME, 48, at the scene. He was charged Friday with first-degree murder. He did not enter a plea.

QMI Agency spoke with people on Saturday who live around the home where police said the city's 15th homicide of the year took place.

Residents had a difficult time telling QMI where they felt their responsibilities lie when it comes to domestic disputes.

"It's hard to answer that," said Alex Poce, 29, who added that he didn't hear the victim's screams Thursday morning. He was walking his dog Saturday down the street where Deboucherville lived, in the city's south end. The street is lined by rows of well-kept, semi-detached triplexes with salmon-coloured bricks.

Poce said he didn't know when a citizen should call the police if they hear a neighbour yelling.

"I guess it depends on the scream."

THis type of assault or murder is common for muslim dominated housing Blocks or Apartments where the neighbours assume the women deserved it and if they speak-up to defend the victim,THEY will become the next person screaming for help as the community stays mute.
