U.S. suspends 14-year jihad terror sentence of bin Laden's cook, sends him to Sudan

Why this was done was apparently not disclosed, but it doesn't look as if American interests were very high on the priority list -- as is so often the case with this Administration. "Bin Laden's ex-cook freed from Guantanamo: Sudan," from AFP, July 11 (thanks to Block Ness):

The former cook of slain Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden returned to his native Sudan early Wednesday, the foreign ministry said, after his release from the US detention centre at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Ibrahim al-Qosi "is already in Khartoum since early this morning" after his arrival on a United States military aircraft, Foreign Ministry spokesman Al-Obeid Meruh told AFP.

"He is a free man," Meruh said.

Court documents in August 2010 showed that Qosi's 14-year sentence would be suspended this month and that he would be returned to Sudan....

Under a plea deal, Qosi, 50, admitted in July 2010 to providing support to terrorism and conspiracy. Details of the plea deal were not released at the time.

He had been held at the US-run Guantanamo prison since 2002.

Qosi acknowledged under oath that he had backed Al-Qaeda since 1996 and had followed bin Laden to Afghanistan, where he worked as a cook at a compound in Jalalabad and also served as a bookkeeper and logistics chief....

Meruh said there had been "some sort of communication between American authorities and Sudanese authorities" over the Qosi case, and a team from the United States visited Sudan last month to finalise details.

"They said they are going to release him," Meruh said.

Bin Laden lived in Sudan for about five years until he was forced to leave in 1996.

The United States imposed sanctions on Sudan in 1997, partly for its support of international terrorism.

I just heard this but apparently Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr who is a Shia who is a staunch critic of the Saudi govt. was arrested. Subsequent protests have resulting in deaths.

President Obama declared the war is over, even though the global jihad continues against us. Al Qaeda was only one faction of the Muslim Brotherhood's global jihad. The Taliban is another. When one faction is dispersed, another one will come to the forefront.

For those unfamiliar with The Jewish World Review, I consider it to be the "Drudge Report" of conservative commentary. It doesn't specifically deal with Jihad but, it is definitely aware of it and certainly doesn't shy away from it.

Let me understand this. Obama is releasing a terrorist sworn to die for allah and at the same time to kill an infidel=me. I pay my money=taxes to Obama (they take it really)to protect me from external and internal enemies. He also says he will not tolerate "unfair" criticism of ISLAM. Ladies and gentlemen there is something VERY WRONG with this picture. VERY VERY WRONG.

According to the Pentagon, the sentence was commuted due to his "cooperation" with authorities.

But we have not been told what results came from this cooperation. Was enough evidence or testimony provided by this man to prosecute successfully other terrorists? Did he provide intel that foiled an active terror plot?

Or does cooperation just mean that he actually stood up when the judge entered the room, accepted the legitimacy of the court, and didn't attack/spit on his prison guards, etc?

Seems like that bit about "logistics chief" might be a bit more salient that his being a cook...

Well, I hope the Obama Administration remembered to give this guy a Jihad Starter Kit. Nothing special, just the usual RPG with a complement of ammunition, some fake id's to get him into restricted areas, a suicider's bomb belt etc.

Hopefully they also remembered to throw in complementary copies of Jihad for Jerks, Beheadings for Bozos and Revenges for Recitivists.

It would also be useful to him if the US Government gave him a Letter of Recommendation personally signed by the President of the United State of America.

If not, then how can they expect this guy so function as a productive member of Muslim society?

Let's look on the bright side.

A/ American taxpayer money is no longer being spent to feed, clothe, house and medicate him.

B/ With any luck, the most zealous sharia-pushers in Sudan will decide that he is not quite zealously Islamic enough, and rub him out. Or someone a bit lower down the pecking order than he is - who considers himself a better Muslim - will dispose of him, with a view to moving *up* the pecking order a rung or two. Or he'll just be in the wrong place at the wrong time and end up as collateral damage in a murder-'martyr' attack. Or he'll forget to follow a recipe properly, and have a 'work accident' when he's whipping up some explosives (has anybody thought that his description as 'cook' might just possibly be doublespeak for something else?). All of these things happen inside dar al Islam all the time.
