Arizona Congressional candidate caught in uproar for noting that Islamic jihadis want to enter the U.S. to harm Americans

Obviously Mercer meant those Middle Easterners who enter the country illegally from Mexico, not all Middle Easterners who come to the United States. And so the uproar is clearly a cynical orchestrated hit for political purposes, like virtually all of the shock and outrage that the Left generates for supposed "gaffes" by figures on the Right.

After all, why exactly are Middle Easterners sneaking in to the U.S. from Mexico? It isn't as if it's difficult in this Age of Obama for Muslims to get refugee status in the U.S. As Pamela Geller noted here: "Christians are in imminent danger across the world, and yet they are being refused refugee status, while Muslim refugee immigration goes on unimpeded. U.S. policy regarding refugee resettlement would shock most Americans if they only knew. The United Nations picks who gets to come to the U.S. as a refugee. The mandate of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is to determine which of the world’s huddled masses comes to the U.S. as humanitarian refugees. And predictably, this U.N. body is favoring Muslims. Christians from Muslim lands are being refused refugee status."

That being the case, it is more than passing strange that any Middle Easterners at all are crossing illegally into the U.S. from Mexico. And the fact that they do so does raise legitimate questions about their motives.

"Arizona Republican's 'Middle Easterners' comments spark debate," by Tim Gaynor for Reuters, August 29 (thanks to Trita Parsi):

(Reuters) - Remarks by a conservative Arizona Republican Congressional candidate that Middle Easterners' "only goal in life is to cause harm to the United States" have landed her in the midst of a dispute over whether the comments amount to hate speech.

Tea Party-backed Gabriela Saucedo Mercer, who was born in Mexico and is a naturalized U.S. citizen, won the Republican primary on Tuesday to run in an Arizona Congressional district that flanks the border in southern Arizona. She faces Democrat Raul Grijalva, a five-term incumbent, in the November general election.

Grijalva sparked the debate Tuesday when he circulated a video in which the Republican tells an interviewer that authorities in the previous year nabbed 25,000 illegal immigrants who were other than Mexican nationals.

"That includes Chinese, Middle Easterners. If you know Middle Easterners, a lot of them they look Mexican or like a lot of people in South America - dark skin, dark hair, brown eyes, and they mix in," she said in the interview, recorded last year by WesternFreePress.com.

"And those people, their only goal in life is to cause harm to the United States, so why do we want them here, either legally or illegally?" she said....

Grijalva, a long-term opponent of the immigration crackdown, issued a news release on Tuesday denouncing what he called Mercer's "reckless hate speech" and urged everyone who endorsed Mercer to "withdraw their support immediately."

"This is not a he-said, she-said question of interpretation. Her comments are reprehensible and deserve condemnation from every quarter. Anyone who continues to support her campaign should be asked whether they want someone with her views in Congress," he said in a statement.

[Muslim Brotherhood-linked] Rep. Keith Ellison, the first Muslim American elected to Congress, said he was "disappointed" in Mercer's "decision to inject division and fear" into the Congressional race.

The American-Arab Anti Discrimination Committee, a non-sectarian civil rights and civil liberties group, also weighed into the debate, slamming Mercer's choice of words, which it said "once again exemplifies the bigotry and racism rampant within the Republican party, and politics as a whole."

The nonprofit group called on Republican party leaders, including presidential candidate Mitt Romney, to condemn her remarks and "move away from the politics of hate and fear."

A call to Mercer seeking comment was not immediately returned on Wednesday. In comments reported by the Arizona Daily Star newspaper, she said the video was edited to be misleading and took her comments out of context.

"He (Grijalva) must be scared or something," the newspaper reported Mercer saying at a primary-election night party on Tuesday. "The tactics he's using to smear me as a racist are unconscionable."

I'm sure C.A.I.R will be out there making a statement about "Islamophobia"; the CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS and Fox news (and all the rest of the libreral news media), will be reporting on this soon. It will cause quite a stir, AND it will be one of the "hot topics" of the day.

Why? ... Because, like England we are doomed also, unless we wake up and start fighting ....

"Middle Easterners' only goal in life is to cause harm to the United States" ... Wow. Mercer for President!

Another of the lies that keep intellectually lazy, easily mislead Americans from learning, or accepting, the truth:

"Grijalva, a long-term opponent of the immigration crackdown"

The deceit, here, is that ALL immigration is being "cracked down" on.

Of course, the kinda, sorta crackdown is on ILLEGAL entry into our country and Visa overstays.

It is naive to think the article's author doesn't know that.

Actually, Spencer is incorrect. Mercer is quoted in the article, immediately after saying of Middle Easterners that "their only goal in life is to cause harm to the United States...", as asking rhetorically: "...why do we want them here, either legally or illegally?"

The only "obviously" to infer about her words here is that by "Middle Easterner" she means "Muslim". Her only gaffe was to use that rather imprecise and misleading synecdoche. At least she's one step closer to the truth than Spencer is.

why do you have a need/or think you can demean those people here who are trying to bring attention to a cause that is an imminent danger to us?
M

Why do you have a need/or think that to critique someone's idea is to "demean" them?

I don't. it is the tone of your language that is demeaning and condescing. look at your last sentence about robert. do you not think that is condescending?
m

Here is an islamist confirming every single thing Robert Spencer has said about stealth jihad. It will be ignored of course, and those who report that it was said castigated as intolerant for merely reporting he said it.

This is what they think and this is what they say to each other. There is a stealth jihdad and this is how they are waging it against us.

I really think it deserves it's own post.

The statement that muslims are a problem , a big problem for America is true. There are tens of thousands of families right now in the USA who will suffer for a lifetime because their loved one was mercilessly murdered by a muslim. Many of us on a daily basis carry the burden of worry for our loved one having to be in harms way. We will never enjoy the level of happiness and prosperity which the money being used against the varied Islamic threats and wars has siphoned off. The real cost incurred because of islam and it’s muslim adherents is significant and sufficient to have degraded our capacity to lead more free and prosperous lives. Our most basic hard earned constitutional freedoms have been trampled by muslims impeding our free speech even our capacity to travel within our borders. Abroad,in nations where muslims hold a majority enen in those given billions of US taxpayer dollars, they chant death to America whilst they increasingly become more militarized and embolden to threats us. Yes it is a fact, muslims are a problem, a very big problem, a national security problem. A quarantine is long overdue.

My sympathies are with the Hon. Mercer. Yes, I have nothing against ANY immigrant who plays by the rules; and there are even quite a few illegal Mexicans whom I'd just as soon slap on the wrist, fine, and find some way to regularize their status (although there are others whom I'd deport as soon as the legal machinery allows). But if they're crossing the border to do us harm, we'd better be on the lookout and prepared to treat 'em rough.

But, I wonder what those would-be terrorist illegals think of their country of passage, where there's a town called "Matamoros" (Moor-slayer)?

Yup. 'Middle Easterners' = Muslims.

The Copts and the Assyrian and Maronite Christians are no particular threat. They will not hatch plots to mass-murder the citizens of their host country.

Muslims, on the other hand, include among their number many who *will* do just that.

Jihad in South America is well underway.

There have been Jihad plotters apprehended in **Chile**.

Rising Jew-Hatred and Jihad in Chile as the Muslim Population Increases

The Muslims from Lebanon and elsewhere have followed the trail of their erstwhile dhimmi near-slaves, Lebanese and 'Palestinian' Arab dhimmified Christians, who fled from the Middle East to South America.

And as the numbers of *Muslims* from the Levant - and from Iran - have increased, so the jihad is starting to get underway. And the Jews are feeling threatened.

If the subject matter were relatively trivial, you might have a point. But since this is a matter of life and death, and the lives of my friends, family, and fellow citizens are at stake, then I hardly think the mild and subtle "tone" of a sentence that strikes a person subjectively as "demeaning" or "condescending" is of primary importance here.

More important is that Ms. Mercer is right about this particular point, and Spencer is wrong. That doesn't make Spencer a bad guy, nor does it detract one whit from all his other significant and incredibly useful endeavors with regard to the counter-jihad. To think it must, indicates a curious, and disturbingly fragile mindset. And I frankly find it demeaning to insinuate that I have no right to express my concern in this regard, considering the gravity of the issue -- though I would never dream of denying you the right to express your insinuation.
