Mastermind of 1993 World Trade Center jihad attack wants prison rules eased -- he's lonely

The poor lamb. "Bomber’s plea: Man behind ’93 WTC attack wants prison rules eased," by Robert Gearty for the New York Daily News, August 22 (thanks to all who sent this in):

The mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing has apparently grown tired of all those pesky rules at a maximum-security prison known as the “Alcatraz of the Rockies.”

Ramzi Yousef, 44, serving a life sentence plus 240 years at the so-called Supermax prison in Florence, Colo., is asking an appeals court to soften restrictions at the lockup.

Yousef lives in solitary confinement in a 7-foot-by-11-foot cell and says he no longer poses a threat.

His lawyer, Bernard Kleinman, says the government has never explained why Yousef is still being held under special administrative measures, also known as SAMs.

“They don’t say he tried to make a bomb there or tried to have secret communications with another inmate,” he argued Wednesday to the appellate court.

Kleinman whined that Yousef is the only inmate on a cell block that has six or seven cells. Only two people did brief stints on that wing of the prison — a white supremacist and a drug dealer.

Ramzi Yousef, 44, is currently in prison for life plus 240 years for committing acts of terrorism, including the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.

“Solitary confinement is a really tough thing to take,” Kleinman said.

Yousef was convicted in the bombing that killed six people and injured more than 1,000 in the February 1993 attack at the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

He was also convicted in a plot to bomb a dozen American planes from the sky.

“Yes, I am a terrorist and am proud of it,” he declared at his sentencing in 1998.

Two New York City police officers help an injured woman away from the scene near the World Trade Center after an explosion in this Feb. 26, 1993.

Now he wants someone to talk to.

“Human interaction is a big issue,” Yousef’s lawyer said after court....

Before the 9/11 attack, Yousef was on a wing with Unabomber Ted Kaczynski and Oklahoma bombers Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols.

After 9/11, Yousef got his own cell block, Kleinman said.

Yousef’s cell has a toilet, a shower, a radio, a television and a desk. His meals are brought to the cell, and the only time he can leave is for an hour of recreation.

He’s allowed to have books approved by the Bureau of Prisons but any newspapers he sees are cut to remove the “letters to the editor” section.

That’s because of fears there might be a “secret coded message” in one of the letters, the attorney said.

give the bible to read, it will fill the time and his mind with the truth.

Yeah, "he no longer poses a threat" until he does. I wonder how these scums even lawyers defending them. no wonder lawyers have a reputation that they have!!

Actually I have to agreed with team Yousef here - as long as he is in the friendly confines of a 7 x 11 foot steel and concrete cell, he "poses no threat." I'm good with that....

Gosh. Life can be such a bitch sometimes. Then you die.

Yousef lives in solitary confinement in a 7-foot-by-11-foot cell and says he no longer poses a threat.

*****

Jihad-minded Muslims are always a threat. And if in his opinion he doesn't pose a threat. that's another example of off-kilter Muslim "thinking." He doesn't pose a threat BECAUSE he's locked up in confinement, Duuuuuuh,

“'Human interaction is a big issue,” Yousef’s lawyer said after court," This one has me really puzzled since Muslims are forever trying to kill so many other humans who could, like ummmmh, if they weren't being killed according to the instructions of Islam, like offer human interaction.

No sympathy for murderers.

Ah....the man is suffering? Gee, I wonder how the people that lost their family members and friends in the bombing are getting on. You don't think they are suffering due to your vicious act? Pardon me if I'm not sympathetic. You made your bed, now lie in it.

From the report:

He was also convicted in a plot to bomb a dozen American planes from the sky.

Ah, yet another Islamic plot to mass-murder us -- this one evidently hatched in the 80s or 90s -- which I'd never heard about till just now, to add to the long list.

Won't be long until he's out, with the current person in charge...

Don't forget, for example -- to pluck one example of thousands from a non-Sikh turban:

Omar Abdel-Rahman, a blind sheik sentenced to life in prison in 1996 for conspiring to assassinate Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and destroy several New York landmarks, including the U.N. building and the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels.

For which part of Rahman's résumé do we think the newly minted Arab-Sprung Muslim-Brotherhoood President of Egypt, Mohammed Mohammed Morsi (yes, that's two Mohammeds -- as the old chewing gum jingle goes, "Double your jihad, double your fun") wanted his sentence commuted in order to have him released and returned a free man back to Egypt? For his participation in an assassination plot on the evil tyrant Mubarak; or for plotting to mass-murder New Yorkers and destroy NYC landmarks? For the former? For the latter? Let's go with the jingle: for both.

he is lonely? oh boy! who does he want for a companion? Bin Laden is lonely? why don't we send him to Bin Laden?
M

This is why I prefer the death penalty for terrorists and their supporters - premeditated mass murder deserves no less and the instigators should NEVER be free.

OK, let's just release all the GITMO prisoners instead, right, and none of them will return to killing, right, that's the ticket... NO - let them pay for their crime in a way that will prevent return to their murderous acts.

Sounds like he's got better facilities than I have.. . Sheeh. Why don't the moron learn an instrument and entertain the jinn ?

"...but any newspapers he sees are cut to remove the “letters to the editor” section.

Good idea, but coded messages could also be contained in the classified ads, or in the society pages, or announcements of upcoming events.

''Don't speak of my Heart'' . . . Gerry Rafferty.

Maybe in addition to the newspapers, they could give him a print-out from TROP of the latest Moslem terror massacres, limited to the ones where Moslems are slaughtering each other. Reading about a dozen or so killed at a Pakistani wedding or a bus-load of Iraqi shiites being blown up might cheer him up no end.

There is no need to relax any of his restrictions because he can talk to Allah all day, every day. Heck, he wouldn't want to talk to an infidel, would he? Yeah, keep him in SC so he won't have to deal with pesky infidels.

Death penalty. Americans can't afford to house these criminals

@john spielman: Ramzi Yousef has claimed a conversion to Christianity for some time, although I understand the prison staff don't think it's sincere. But, who knows? As they used to say from the bench, "May God have mercy on your soul." Maybe someone's prayer was answered?

which brings me to

@PCPCP: My feelings exactly. When there's clear evidence that someone's a murderer, the death penalty's been on the books ever since Noah stepped off the ark.

Yousef’s cell has a toilet, a shower, a radio, a television and a desk. His meals are brought to the cell, and the only time he can leave is for an hour of recreation.
------------------------------------------------

He needs a bar, a fitness room, a swimming pool and most of all he needs the company of fellow jihadists. Don't you understand? That poor fellow is tortured. It's injust, he only wanted to destroy symbols of Western freedom and kill lots of infidels. All of that is legal in Islam. So why is he in jail?

The supermax prisons were originally sold on the idea that some prisoners are too dangerous to be around guards or normal prisoners. And that is true. Some prisoners attack guards at any opportunity, and put the guards at risk. It is perfectly legitimate to house these type of prisoners in the supermax facilities, and to keep them isolated.

However, these prisons seem to be increasingly used as a means of soft torture for high-profile prisoners, who pose little or no risk personally to guards. The Unibomber, the FBI turncoat Robert Hanssen, John Walker Lindh are people who committed highly publicized, or even highly damaging crimes, but who are personally probably not a threat to guards or other inmates.

It is simply torture to keep a person locked up by himself for years at a time. I think a free society like the US simply should not employ torture as a means of retribution. It is simply beneath us. I don't mind executing a murderer, but not torture.

Ramzi Yousef may indeed be personally dangerous. I don't dispute that. But, if he is imprisoned in solitary confinement for years on end, it ought to be incumbent on the government to make that assertion. Just wanting to make an example of him is not enough. Ted Kaczynski, the Unibomber, was dangerous and elusive, but personally, was an inadquate nerd of no danger to anyone personally. He is in prison now, and rendered harmless. Why is he in supermax?

His cell has a tv, a radio, ashower. Thats not torture.
If he were in an islamic country his jail would not be as pleasent.
He is in prison for murder!!!
Let the sod rot, and good ridence.
I agree with pork fat rules. 'Give him a big steaming cup of STFU'

I second Spielman's posting, above: give him the Bible to read. In whatever dialect of Arabic is his first language.

Plus:

Closed circuit TV with *all* Fr Zakaria Botros' programs cheerfully taking Islam to pieces. Our Mohammedan has the choice of pressing an OFF switch or an ON switch. If he gets tired of staring at a blank screen, he can relieve the boredom...with Fr Botros...Let's see whether curiosity and boredom win over fanaticism.

As for suitable visitors: an exorcist?

Or the equivalent...once a month or so, he gets an hour's conversation with unfoolable Islamocritics like Mr Spencer, or with no-nonsense apostates from Islam like Wafa Sultan and Nonie Darwish (who also have psych training).

All such conversations to be taped for educational/ training purposes.

Further thought: if he claims to have converted to Christianity, then if his conversion was sincere, I would expect him to be doing three things 1/ abjectly saying SORRY to everyone he harmed, and asking forgiveness 2/ cheerfully accepting his due punishment and making the best of life in prison (being grateful not to have been executed) and 3/ seeking some form of productive work (that could be done in prison without the use of edged tools or anything else potentially a weapon) in order to begin to earn his keep and/ or pay toward restitution. Any ex-jihadist who had sincerely converted would know, none better, why the Infidels could never be quite easy about turning him loose, and such a one would therefore be prepared to stay in prison precisely in order to set everyone else's minds at rest.

So far I don't see that he's doing any of these things...

Curious. What does a "white supremacist" have to do to go to jail, and even get solitary confinement?

Mr. Ramzi Yousef should be glad he still has his head.

Show him the same mercy jihadists show their victims.

Prison is intended to be PUNITIVE. The punishment should fit the crime - DEATH. In this case, he has zero to complain about while he's still above ground.

Oh reading this is terribly sad, I just cannot stop the tears. While he languishes in prison, according to Allah the people he killed are enjoying the delights of Hell. He has much to look forward to. We can be sure Allah has picked out for him 72 of the very best.
