Only hundreds rally against Egypt's Islamic supremacist president

Not nearly enough. But as I have said for years, Islamic supremacism and Sharia are popular in Muslim countries, as secular rule is considered un-Islamic. "Hundreds rally against Egypt's Islamist president," from the Associated Press, August 24 (thanks to Kenneth):

Hundreds of protesters are rallying on the streets in several Egyptian cities to denounce the country's Islamist president and his Muslim Brotherhood group.

Friday's protests were the first attempt by Mohammed Morsi's opponents to stage a major demonstration against the new president. But the low turnout was a far cry from the street protests during the uprising that toppled Morsi's predecessor, Hosni Mubarak....

Robert!: yesterday I read on BBC that the first "journalism court has been established in Egypt" which means any offence to their president or Islam is punishable.
M

I don't believe that Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood have become the absolute rulers of Egypt, because of their popularity and the popularity of Sharia.

The Muslim Brotherhood and Egypt's Islamist party came from an Egyptian citizenry, wanting change. Change, after 40 years of poverty imposed by despotic rule. This was a seized oppertunity for the Muslim Brotherhood to orchetsrate their climb to power in Egypt.

Egypt's people were duped, First with benevolence, then lies, later with intimidation and now with absolute power. What happened in Egypt was a change in wealth and power and a means by which to sustain it.

I have always believed that Islam is used by an elitist hierarchy as a means to aquire and sustain wealth and power. Islam's religious followers are their sharia controlled contributors.

''Friday's protests were the first attempt by Mohammed Morsi's opponents to stage a major demonstration against the new president. But the low turnout was a far cry from the street protests during the uprising that toppled Morsi's predecessor, Hosni Mubarak....''

Of course it's a far cry. The *majority* wanted sharia, and now they've got it. Haven't there been polls to show that ? It's the **Copts** who are going to suffer, not the bloody muslims.

Do you think poverty was caused by despotic rule? Or by the hopelessly large birthrate which no government could make provision for? Of course, the people wouldn't think like that. They just breed like crazy, with litle to offer their kids, then blame the government for the results of their recklessness.

Allah wanted Muslims to have many children, but only provided one world for them all. And we are being told to move over and make room for them in what we used to blithely call "our" countries, by what we used to call "our" governments.

I have the feeling they are even breeding faster now we have opened the doors to them, as they consider the visa problem is evaporating and they will simply move here as they will once their more upfront "brothers" make the necessary threats/"human rights"-based incursions. I have heard as much from one "horse's mouth".

PJG,

Probably both. The people have very little say in an autocratic society. Greedy despots will see to it that the nation's wealth winds up in his and or his family's personal cophers. He will do little to promote or make allowences for the benefit of his nation's citizens. In Egypt's case Mubarek took an estimated 70 billion from his people. Government funds for civil benefitting organizations, were virtually non existant. That may have been the reason, Egypts poor, favored a benevolent Muslim Brotherhood for their civil and human existance. They fed clothed and protected the poor, while Mubarek protected his rule with a well funded military.

I agree. Also Islam isn't the only religion promoting a high birth rate. The Pope is in on this one too.

Isn't there is a side to Islam that seeks to provide a social safety net? Is not one of the five pillars of Islam to give to charity?

Mubarek gave the Bustlin' Motherhood an opening.

I believe one of the things that Hamas successfully campaigned on was a commitment to provide an efficient garbage pickup.

Shit, if my garbage was piling up and the only guy interested in picking it up was Jerry Falwell I might vote for him.
(Except he's dead, but you get the drift).

Have a great weekend everybody.

.........................................

Really? Why is it that Muslims wanting "change" so often turn to Shari'ah? Really, it's a mystery. sarc/off

Is Egypt likely to be more prosperous now that the "Islamists" have all but destroyed the tourist industry? Perhaps we should ask the residents of northern Mali, as well, who have just destroyed most of their priceless UNESCO sites...

More:

.........................................

I guess the people of Iran were duped as well. And yet, thirty years later and they are still living in an oppressive Shari'ah state. Odd how that keeps happening...

More:

I have always believed that Islam is used by an elitist hierarchy as a means to aquire and sustain wealth and power. Islam's religious followers are their sharia controlled contributors.
.........................................

If you believe this, then why would you think that the main reason Egyptians are turning to the Muslim Brotherhood is because they are some sort of benevolence agency for the poor?

More, replying to PJG:

That may have been the reason, Egypts poor, favored a benevolent Muslim Brotherhood for their civil and human existance. They fed clothed and protected the poor...
.........................................

And the fact that they have openly advocated Shari'ah has had *nothing* to do with it?

I do believe that there are a few genuine democrats who hoped that the Tarir Square protests would lead to the ouster of Mubarak and a more free system—just as was the case in Iran.

But the Allahu Akbaring hordes pretty much know what Shari'ah entails—and that's *exactly* what they voted for.

I really look forward to reading your comments, Domenick, but—with respect—I think here you are much underestimating the attraction that barbaric Shari'ah holds for so many followers of the "religion of peace".

Catholics don't permit 4 wives at the same time...

Gravenimage,

I agree that many, as a general observation, believe in fundamentalist Islam. In Egypt's case, however, I believe that most do not. It's a mistake to assert that the Muslim Brothehood's rise to power was generated by the general population wanting Sharia law. I don't believe that for a minute. For some, that may have been the case but for most, it was a desperate need for change.

The Muslim Brotherhood, already known for it's civil benevolence and their anti Mubarek position fullfilled that need, thusly, orchestrating their rise to absolute power.

...................................

You're referring to "Zakat", Amazonas. Zakat is often translated as "charity"—but Zakat *is not* charity as we know it in the West. It is more for funding Da'wa and Jihad than for caring for orphans or building hospitals.

Were your hypothesis correct, then the most Islamic states would be the most charitable. Do you really believe that the Taliban, Al Shbaab, and Ansar Dine are most concerned with caring for the needy and the poor?

The fact is that most aid for disaster victims and the poor in the Muslim world *comes from the West*—Christian, Jewish, and secular charities—*not* from Muslims, either wealthy oil states or from small contributions from ordinary Muslims.

More:

...................................

I'm sorry—do you really believe that Hamas' virulent Jew-hatred and embrace of devout Islam had nothing to do with it, but that Gazans were just willing to put up with Shari'ah because the trash was piling up at the curb?

I'd bury my trash in my own backyard before I'd vote for the barbarity of Shari'ah.

With all due respect to both you and Dominick, Amazonas, I believe you've both been listening to the "common wisdom" that claims that all of that Jihad and Shari'ah is really about economic opportunity...

...which never seems to explain why Shari'ah states are such utter economic basket cases, by the way...
