Pamela Geller: 1001 pieces of Islamic supremacist propaganda: fabricated exhibit comes to D.C.

In "1001 Pieces of Islamist Propaganda: Fabricated Exhibit Comes to D.C.," in PJ Media today, Pamela Geller examines the disingenuous and misleading 1001 Muslim Inventions exhibit, which I discussed at length in my 2007 book Religion of Peace? -- that it is still going strong five years later is testimony to its popularity.

...The exhibit is almost unfailingly dishonest. As Adams explains, even if everything it says about Muslim inventions were true, it does not and cannot explain why Muslims never followed up on these inventions. If Firnas was really the first to fly, why did it fall to the Wright Brothers 1000 years later to follow up on what he supposedly discovered about how to do it? Why weren’t Muslims flying around in airplanes centuries before the Wright Brothers were born?

If, as Adams also recounts, Muslims really invented the camera as the exhibit claims, why don’t we have snapshots of Saladin and Suleiman the Magnificent? Why did we have to wait for Daguerre and Niepce?

1001 Muslim Inventions raises more questions about the decline of Muslim civilization than it answers, yet projects like 1001 Muslim Inventions have support at very high levels. Remember in June 2010 when Charlie Bolden, the NASA chief appointed by President Obama, revealed that Obama had asked him to “find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with predominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering”?

The truth: what contributions?

Islamic scholar Robert Spencer points out that much of what are considered Muslim inventions today, including many that 1001 Muslim Inventions celebrates, have been wildly exaggerated if not outright fabricated, “often for quite transparent apologetic motives.” You’ve heard Muslims invented the zero, right? Actually, as Spencer writes:

The zero, which is often attributed to Muslims, and what we know today as “Arabic numerals” did not originate in Arabia, but in pre-Islamic India.

They preserved Greek philosophy when Christian Europe had thrown it away, correct? No. Spencer:

Aristotle’s work was preserved in Arabic not initially by Muslims at all, but by Christians such as the fifth century priest Probus of Antioch, who introduced Aristotle to the Arabic-speaking world. Another Christian, Huneyn ibn-Ishaq (809-873), translated many works by Aristotle, Galen, Plato and Hippocrates into Syriac. His son then translated them into Arabic. The Syrian Christian Yahya ibn ‘Adi (893-974) also translated works of philosophy into Arabic, and wrote one of his own, The Reformation of Morals. His student, another Christian named Abu ‘Ali ‘Isa ibn Zur’a (943-1008), also translated Aristotle and others from Syriac into Arabic.

Aristotle’s philosophies would be prohibited under Islam; Muhammad most likely would have beheaded him. He stands for everything Islam is against. Ayn Rand wrote this of Aristotle: “Aristotle’s universe is the universe of science. The physical world, in his view, is not a shadowy projection controlled by a divine dimension, but an autonomous, self-sufficient realm. It is an orderly, intelligible, natural realm, open to the mind of man.” These very ideas are anathema to Islam; they are blasphemy.

But what about medicine? The Muslims were great innovators in the medical sciences, weren’t they? Here again, Spencer points out that it was non-Muslims in the Islamic world who were doing the heavy lifting:

The first Arabic-language medical treatise was written by a Christian priest and translated into Arabic by a Jewish doctor in 683. The first hospital was founded in Baghdad during the Abbasid caliphate — not by a Muslim, but a Nestorian Christian. A pioneering medical school was founded at Gundeshapur in Persia — by Assyrian Christians.

The bottom line: the inventions and discoveries attributed to the Muslim world were actually stolen from conquered peoples. The 1001 Muslim Inventions exhibit is not history, it is propaganda, and the foolish infidels keep lining up enthusiastically for more.

Muslim inventions? Give us a break!!!

Muslims have never been about innovation. Islam was born in the 7th century and Muslims are bound and determined to keep it there. That’s where Muslim priorities lay.

And it’s all about priorities. Here’s an example.

Several years ago the Kuffir Space Gods had the bright idea of sending a Muslim (a Malay) into space. (Why? Some sort of outreach?) Only the Kuffirs could do such a thing because, on their own, the Muslims could never even think of such an adventure. Along the same lines that the new Muslim mega-clock in Mecca could never have been built without the ingenuity of the Kuffir. “O Allah [as in ‘I’ll hava Coke, or a Pepsi’], why have you cursed the best of people [the Quran-inspired descriptor used by Muslims to identify themselves] with no brains, but have amply supplied the infidels with knowledge & clear thinking, leaving us so ashamed and in poverty.”

But the Malaysian Space Agency (huh? who knew such an agency even existed!), a part of the Dept of Islamic Development Malaysia (cough, cough, “Islamic Development” exists in the same universe as “dry water”), wrestled with the greatest technical problem of the entire then-upcoming flight of going beyond the earth’s atmosphere. That problem, How to face Mecca from outer space?

That question, yes, that question, was the priority.

The result, A Guideline of Performing Ibadah at the International Space Station (ISS), which concludes, “It is hoped that this guideline could assist the Muslim Astronaut to ensure the success of the mission and at the same time attaining the redha (pleasure) of Allah SWT.”

Get that? The purpose of this nonsensical “guideline” (giggle) is to help the Muslim “ensure the success of the mission.”

This pdf guideline is found here,
http://makkah.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/a_guideline_ibadah_at_iss.pdf

This guideline also gives instruction on how to handle death in space. In case the deceased cannot “be brought to Earth for normal funeral process,” then “the deceased should be buried in space with a simple funeral process.”

Whew! A load off my mind. Leave it to the Muslim to come up with the really, really penetrating questions facing us all.

Except, how is one “buried” in space?

QUOTE:"Except, how is one “buried” in space?"

Simple really. One finds the muddy swamp that the Sun sets in every night and bury the body there!

Lorenzo,

Thanks for that link. Freakin' hilarious!

i. According to Islam, traveling to space is encouraged.

ii. A Muslim astronaut needs to observe traveling ethics which are:

a. To maintain the relationship with Allah SWT
b. To observe peace with other beings
c. To maintain sustainability of the space environment.

Additional proof that the zombies just don't "get it."

Space environment??? That will have me laughing for the rest of the day!!

This exhibit was in Queens (2010) and NYT trashed exhibit then (Edward Rothstein)
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/10/arts/design/10museum.html?pagewanted=all

There are other reviews that are more benign "isn't this wonderful?"

"Muslims have never been about innovation."
Oh I don't know! How about acid attacks? I don't know any other group that does this apart from Muslims.
And amputations? Demonically original I would say!
I don't suppose they can lay claim to stoning. But hey they can't invent everything!
Suicide bombers, hijacking planes: not sure if that's original.
Wife-beating..well I don't think there's any other group that actually recommends it!
Using children as shields and carrying bombs...have the smell of Islam.
Recommending homosexual practices in order to facilitate inserting explosives...yeesh I reckon the Mohammadans can have that one!
Killing your own daughters for wearing counter-cultural attire...only in the Umma methinks.
Lobster-pot: you can get in but you can't get out. Killing apostates..a Mussie delicacy.
FGM...don't know if Mohammadans actually invented it. They sure like it though! (The men anyway).
Temporary marriages..maybe.
Jihad .Actively making war on those who don't agree with you...
Burning schools and locking the doors..
Rioting over cartoons..
And 1,000 similar things.
Quite inventive really!

Islamic irrationalism - why Muslims never made any progress in science beyond what they plagiarized from earlier, but more advanced civilizations: http://crombouke.blogspot.com/2010/01/islamic-irrationalism-and-anti.html

Interesting MEMRI clip from Saudi Arabia saying all innovations come from the WEST!

#3547 - Saudi Shura Council Member Ibrahim Al-Buleihi: Progress for Arab and Islamic World Can Only Come from Western Civilization
The Internet, Rotana Khalijiya TV (Saudi Arabia) - July 23, 2012 - 05:10

From what I've read, while there were a few geniuses among the medieval Muslims -- after all, wherever there are humans there normally appears a genius from time to time -- there was never anything in their culture to nurture, propagate and build on the work of those few geniuses.

And as pointed out above, many innovations attributed to Muslim culture were actually accomplished by non-Muslims, some even slaves. The implications being not that the non-Muslims were simply superior people, but rather people educated by a superior culture.

Islam holds that Allah is supreme, bound by no law, and can do anything at any time. As such, there can be no "laws of nature". That would imply a limit on the powers of Allah. The very notion is heretical.

So if there are no laws of nature to discover, what's to investigate or study?

In the west (and most of the rest of the world) it is held that the creator created the world, and that's that. The world is what it is, and as such is a valid object of study.

In Islam it is held that Allah creates the world afresh in every moment. There is no finality to creation. Therefore, nothing you can count on to be there tomorrow.

Now it's impossible to believe that ALL the Mohammedans are so crack pot as to take this stuff literally in the context of day to day living. No planning whatever would be possible.

But in setting the intellectual and moral tone for the intelligentsia, the schools (such as they are) and the upper classes, those doctrines are mortally toxic.

What rich man is going to found a scientific university if the local religious authorities -- who may well be his neighbors and friends of his ruler -- declare that the basic conceptions of science are heresy? And heresy in the Mohammedan context, where heresy is punishable by death.

Mohammedan culture is a desert to the human mind.

Why else would such a large population produce almost nothing of note and originality for a thousand years? Do you even buy Arabian electronics? Omani software? Tunisian built high efficiency cars? Indonesian watches? Malaysian medicines?

Do you read Iraqi patents? Have you ever heard of one?

Mohammedan culture is a desert to the human mind.

And nothing is going to change until the Muslims themselves face that.

"Do you read Iraqi patents? Have you ever heard of one?"

Oh hell, why limit it to Iraqi patents? I'll bet that the tiny nation of Israel has more patents than ALL of the other ME nations of North Africa combined.

Sounds like a sure bet, PFR.

Guys and gals - you are all aspirational to me. Thank God for the freedom we have and we need to retain it. Obama & Co are working frantically to erode it away from us and dilute it to a point our young generation will doubt our own achievements. Islamists may be worthless inventors but they are top-notch deceivers. They are in the process of deceiving the American people - no doubt they will be successful in many ways. Most people careless about finding the facts(for instance Obama supporters). There are too many people like them. There are very few people who have a focus on Stealth Jihad. We need to do more, get more people involved in educating them about "the Truth About Islam". The regular people are getting conned day in and day out by Muslims and their buddies which includes a large number of lesbians and other groups that Islam will attack and destroy within a pulse-beat. Islam is in a full swing with the direct help from Obama. Islam is a great destroyer - there are 1001 evidences around the World to prove that. Why don't they allow an exhibition to show that to the New Yorkers? why don't they allow to teach that to our children in schools?

this endorsed by the government, cooperated with celebrities and by "national geographic" acclaim devoted to history, quite alarming.

The great age of Islam was not ended by the Crusades, the Turks, or the Mongols. It was ended by Dhimmi peoples converting to Islam to avoid being soaked for jizya and being treated like dirt. Hence, there was no "golden age" of Islamic civilization, but a "golden age" of the Dhimmi peoples who were busy preserving the past and carrying out commerce under the rule of Muslims--who contributed very little, it seems.

While I'm at it, I'd like more references to the Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians, Hindus, and who-not under Islamic rule who contributed--the names, dates, religious community, and places.

@sean: I went to the link, and it was one of the most outrageous pieces of nonsense that huffpo has ever published. To give credit where it is due, I note that a number of the posters there called the bluff.

They (the scum far Left and the Muslims) DESPISE Pam because she's a good-looking, articulate, intelligent anti-Islamist.

As for the Muslims trying to take credit for our inventions: it fucking DISGUSTS me. Yet, perhaps more disgustingly in some ways, it doesn't surprise me.

Not only do they come and aggressively assert their shitty, backwards Pak/Islamic identity in our nations, they go one further and attempt to negate ours.

And they wonder why the majority of native-Western people don't like them.

Islam invented absolutely NOTHING. It simply violently invaded and enslaved many previously Greek, Christian countries, (and India,) destroyed them, and then, centuries later, pretended to rediscover their inventions.

Islam is a barbaric, might-makes-right-based, predatory parasite. It stifles thought, invents nothing, makes nothing, and does nothing but enslave and live off the works of all the civilized people it attacks.

Islam’s own most official instruction manual, the Qur’an, declares islam was created by “god” to violently destroy and replace all “other” religions and cultures in the world. The subsequent actions of their followers confirm this.

Further, they have declared it their “right” to murder anyone who even verbally declares their defensive opposition to the moslem’s attacks, in declaring it “blasphemy” to resist their extortions.

And it’s quite simple, really, to see how and why this is: our “Western culture” is based on Confucius’ (wholly Eastern,) Chinese morality, on the Golden Rule of Law (basically: Do Not Attack First! and on “THOU SHALT NOT KILL!”) and so we enjoy trust, progress and civilization.

Islam, however, is based on the exact opposite – on the immoral, brazen rule of chaos, (basically: “It’s our holy right and duty to always attack all ‘the others’ first!” and on “THOU SHALT KILL!”) and so they suffer from distrust, stagnation, and barbarism.

;-)

'Parasites' is a splendid word for them.

And they do indeed literally believe that they have a right to attack anyone who oppose them (which, as we know, consists of merely telling the truth about Islam and Muslims).

And, its the SCUM far Left who have facilitated it.

Without the backwards, impotent, fascist far Left, this would have been sorted out ages ago.

I think we should start to meet Muslim/Leftist threats head-on.

VLADDY

you write:

"our “Western culture” is based on Confucius’ (wholly Eastern,) Chinese morality, on the Golden Rule of Law (basically: Do Not Attack First! and on “THOU SHALT NOT KILL!”) "

Where's your evidence? Specifics, please.

You appear to be claiming that Jesus of Nazareth and Moses merely borrowed from China. That what has always been seen as being among *the* central insights of the TaNaKh and the Christian scriptures somehow magically made their way from China to eretz Israel.

Query: if **china** invented these concepts, why did the concepts of trust and cooperation - and, beyond that, of the infinite significance of each individual human being *qua* human being, the sanctity of life - blossom in Christendom into a religious and legal ban on infanticide and - over time - a campaign to abolish slavery; whilst China was run by emperors or by constantly-warring feudal warlords right up to the 1920s, stagnated scientifically and socially, and was still practising polygyny, slavery or virtual slavery, footbinding of females, public beheadings, assorted inventive forms of torture, and concubinage and female infanticide, in the early 20th century...only abandoning all these customs after contact with and under the influence of the West?

Why, if these concepts originated or were uniquely formulated in *China*, did the Mandarin of Yangcheng find Gladys Aylward's lived message of Christian charity toward the last and the least so extraordinarily novel...as well as extraordinarily attractive?

for a radically alternative view of the difference between core Biblical concepts and what obtained pretty much everywhere else, I suggest you read Tom Cahill, 'The Gifts of the Jews', Franz Rosenzweig, 'The Star of Redemption', and David Bentley Hart, 'The Doors of the Sea', 'The Beauty of the Infinite', and 'Atheist Delusions: The Christian Revolution and Its Fashionable Enemies' (and within that book, which *I* would simply have called 'the biblical revolution and its perennial enemies', the section entitled "Revolution: The Christian Invention of the Human', with subsections 'the face of the faceless', 'the death and birth of worlds', and 'divine humanity'). There's another book worth reading, too - and it's relevant to the subject of the thread. It's written by an Indian, Vishal Mangalwadi, and it's called "The Book That Made Your World". The 'book' is not the Analects nor the Tao te Ching, but the Bible - both TaNaKh and Gospels - and the 'world' is that of the modern West, child of 'Christendom'. He asks the question, about technology 'Why did Western people begin using their minds to do what most cultures used their muscles to do?'

China and the tao and Confucius - belong to what Cahill calls 'the world of the wheel'. And in *that* world, life is cheap and the individual has little significance.

A *concept* of something like the Golden Rule exists in most human cultures - most human cultures, except some few that like Islam seem to have deliberately chosen depravity, have a sense of the necessity of keeping one's word, and of the value of cooperation, trust, reciprocity, and of the wrongness of deliberately killing *some* people [practically all human cultures high or low, *except* the Jews and the Christians , don't seem to have thought that the active killing or leaving-out-to-die of perfectly healthy newborn or infant females constituted 'murder') - but I do not think that you can reasonably claim that 'Thou shalt not kill' and 'do unto others as you would they should do unto you' were not available to anybody on planet earth, as ideas, until 'the chinese'/ "Confucius" 'invented' them, or that Confucius' formulation was *the* winning formulation.

Uncle Vladdi,

The Old Testament promulgated the Golden Rule in Leviticus 19:34, presumably from around 1400 BC, almost a thousand years before Confucius:

The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

dumbledoresarmy, who is the clearer, more accessible, or more pleasant writer? Hart? Or Rosenzweig? And which one is richer in content?

They're both good and interesting.

Rosenzweig is Jewish. I heard about him in a couple of books by Jacques Ellul and have read portions of his work, enough to get a sense of what he is doing. I should say that another Jewish author I enjoy is Abraham Heschel, I have read his 'God In Search of Man'.

Hart is a western adherent of Eastern Orthodoxy; he's interesting in that he draws on and seems to be fully conversant with all three major streams of classic Christian theology - Patristic [i.e. pre-Schism] and Eastern Orthodox, Latin (Catholic) - he has a high regard for a modern Catholic theologian, one Hans Urs Von Balthasar- and, too, the greats of the Reformed/ Reformation tradition. 'The Beauty of the Infinite' is not an easy read but in parts of it the style soars away from dense argument into something resembling poetry - there is, for example, a wonderful disquisition upon the music of J S Bach.

His other books are in a somewhat simpler style and are not so long and dense: "The Story of Christianity", 'Atheist Delusions' and "The Doors of the Sea". 'The Doors of the Sea' is a little masterpiece.

To some extent these Islamic forays to plunder and appropriate other cultures' achievements are a continuation of the predatory/parasitic features of Islam that have been pervasive since its foundation.

However, they can also be viewed as rather pathetic attempts to claim retrospective relevance and significance by a people who are totally irrelevant to the development of the modern world.

A term for the suicidal PC Dhimmitude of the Leftist West:
"Death by Islam".

interesting clip from MEMRI, a saudi shura memeber says all progress comes from the West:

http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/3547.htm

Much of what they're touting are evidence of better societies that existed before Islam suppressed them by the scimitar. It would be like Stalin promoting Orthodox icons as evidence of soviet art.
In terms of science: Remember the Astro-Arab Saudi prince who was concerned about directing his prayers when orbiting.

Gentlemen, Oh gentlemen !!! The Wright brothers were late commers in the field of flight. Do you not recall that the 'Prophet and Messenger' of Allah flew from Medina to Jerusalem one night in about 625 CE on a 747 model Al-Buraq.
He also invented the Trench and a means of communicating with an omniscient deity. Please don't tell anyone I said so, but he also invented the Quran.

re:ygalg @2:41 PM "this endorsed by the government, cooperated with celebrities and by "national geographic" acclaim devoted to history, quite alarming."

National Geographic's endorsement bothers me as well. Here is the link to NatGeo's "About" page:
About Us
The National Geographic Society has been inspiring people to care about the planet since 1888. It is one of the largest nonprofit scientific and educational institutions in the world. Its interests include geography, archaeology and natural science, and the promotion of environmental and historical conservation.
Nowhere in that descriptive does it imply they have/do/will endorse fiction. Assuming the non-profit nature of their business model remains, NatGeo's endorsement of this highly political/religious fiction is quite puzzling if not unnerving & exposes NatGeo's well-earned integrity to serious question.

More about National Geographic from Wiki:

National Geographic Exploring History, which made its debut in Fall, 2011

Reading through the wiki references, it appears NatGeo was criticized for presenting it's material through a Euro- American-centric prism by contemporary 'academics' . . . anthropologist Catherine A. Lutz and socialogist (gender & women's studies), Jane L. Collins in 1993.

One of the comments at Amazon's page for their book, Reading National Geographic reveals more about the authors:

Ethnocentrism gleamed from the pages of National Geographic March 24, 2003
It presupposes that the reader is well aquainted with Gramsci's notion of mass media and the Frankfurt school borne out of this belief of hegemony perpectuated by a controlling elite. The author also takes liberty that the reader is aquainted with research methods using coding to differentiate subjects responses to pictures portrayed. Lastly, the author's use of interviewing technics and the subsequent interpretation of those responses enables the reader the opportunity to realize how the geographic and social background of the readers influence the perceptions people have when encountering this quasi-scientific journal. As an anthropological study this book illuminates the ethnocentric idealations of the Geographic's demographic readership, that is upper middle and middle class white euroamericans.

It appears the Lutz/Collins book and any subsequent efforts to politically correct (modify) NatGeo's 'flawed' Euro-American perspective has been successfully chipped away resulting in NatGeo's regretable 'endorsement' of this pc/Islamised prism of history.

I fondly recall those 1960s National Geographic covers featuring African women's naked boobies.
