Pamela Geller: Standing against left-wing fascists in Stockholm

In "Standing against left-wing fascists in Stockholm" in WND today, Pamela Geller gives a useful summary of the counter-jihad event last Saturday:

Last Saturday heralded the dawning of a new era of cooperation between pro-freedom groups in Europe, the United States, Australia and elsewhere. Freedom fighters from around the world converged in Stockholm to stand with one voice against oppression, tyranny and fascism, rallying for free speech and human rights against Islamic supremacism and leftist tyranny.
The left-fascist thugs were out in force: Police at one point found a suspicious package from the leftists and examined it out of concern that it was a bomb. It turned out to be a large firecracker, but clearly the left-fascist who left it wanted police to think it was a bomb and to create an atmosphere of menace and terror so people would be too frightened to attend our event.

Swedish police in riot gear cordoned off the area of our rally on both sides and blocked entrance to it with police vans. But while the leftist media, which swarmed around our event like jackals, will tell you that we are the threat, the police had to face violence only from the leftist protesters. Desperate that our message of freedom not be heard, they blew vuvuzelas, screamed bloody murder, chanted “EDL go to hell” and kept up a constant din – while throwing eggs and firecrackers at the police and at any pro-freedom activist who got too close to them. One firecracker exploded in a policeman’s face; he had to be taken away in an ambulance.

Nonetheless, several hundred people braved the leftist thugs and police barricades and joined us, unbowed and resolutely determined to stand for freedom and truth. The enemedia was out in force as well, which was noteworthy in itself: In Europe this was a huge story (even Turkish media were there), while in the U.S. the media seem determined to ignore the issue of Islamic supremacist encroachment upon our freedoms.

There was a series of speakers from around the world. I explained to the freedom fighters who came to hear us speak that the battle is for individual rights. It is not a religious war; it is a fight for the smallest minority in the world, the individual, and we are fighting for what is good and what is right. We are right, they are wrong, and wrong is evil and anti-life. After I kicked off the event and Robert Spencer spoke (“Tolerance of the intolerant is suicidal”), the English Defence League’s Tommy Robinson gave a rousing speech on our need to defend free societies.

He was then followed by representatives of Defense Leagues from all over Europe, as well as from the Q Society in Australia and Paul Weston of the British Freedom Party. In the crowd were people from across Europe and the world, including a hearty group of ex-Muslims from Iran who told me that a huge number of people in Iran are fed up with the Islamic Republic and Islam in general – but Barack Obama let them down in 2009....

Regarding the term "left-wing fascists", I would heartily recommend the book "Liberal Fascism" by Jonah Goldberg. He lays out a clear and well-sourced historical case that fascism by its very nature is a left wing movement. And as you see in its current iteration, these left wing goons share many of the characteristics of their fascist and communist forefathers: the worship of emotion, sentiment and action over reason and debate, the glorification of violence, the intolerance of differing ideologies, the contempt for the traditional cultural institutions of the West, the notion that youthful passion is preferable to mature wisdom, the idea that the collective is more important than the individual, that the ends always justify the means, etc.

My mother and my wife were very upset that I visit a meeting
with 'right-wing-extremists' ;-)

They didn't answer when I asked if they would bee more upset

The irony for those leftists is just as bad as the Leftist gays in Toronto that endorse a pro-Hamas group to march in their PRIDE Parade for the last 4 years.
The gayStappo thugs attack anyone that doesn't drink the Kool-ade and embrace Gazans as victims of that Big Bad israel that has a PRIDE parade whilen ot one Arab nation allows one.
Even the CBC used tax dollars to give air-time to CAIR's Dr.Sheema Khan to push for Shariah Law in canada when Khan was knowlingly diverting Canadian Donarions to CAIr to Nihad Awad's CAIR USA to fund Hamas and global Terrorism.

The good news though is that these Leftist yahoos will be the first ones beheaded by their islamist buddies as useful idiots that fullfilled their purpose to spread Taqqiyah that islam=peace.

More of that much-vaunted conservative projection? I hate to burst your bubble, but "leftist fascism" is as oxymoronic as you can get. No credible political scientist worth his salt will agree with you or any biased pseudo-intellectual you choose to name on this matter. That's not to say that left-wing politics aren't without serious problems, but I think they're perfectly self-evident without some right-wing blowhard stacking the deck against them.

I honestly don't understand where people get the notion that islamic jihad/political islam is in any way, shape or form a leftist movement. It represents a strict adherence traditionalist beliefs and "the good 'ol days", perennial hallmarks of conservatism BY DEFINITION. The fact that's it's also a religion, however vile it may be, does much to place it in the conservative camp as well. Whoever heard of a liberal religion? I sure as Hell haven't.

This is precisely why there isn't more support for the pro-freedom movement. There are too many idiots discrediting the movement.

Whether the term "Leftist Fascism" is an oxymoron or not is irrelevant as all political definitions have changed over the years and certain groups have hijacked terms to spread their propaganda. Leftist-Fascism is a term used to reclaim honesty and commonsense, and correctly point the finger at those who are against freedom.
Remember what Churchill said, "the Fascists of the future will call themselves anti-Fascists".

I'm not sure if you're really familiar with the history of fascism. Hitler's "National" Socialism wasn't a misnomer. Mussolini started out as a socialist. The title of Goldberg's book "Liberal Fascism" didn't come from him, but from H.G. Wells, who, as one of the most prominent progressive thinkers of the day, was describing his desire for what the future of progressivism should look like. After the horrors of WWII, the term "fascist" became synonymous with evil for much of mainstream society, but that was not the case prior to WWII. Fascism had a great appeal for many progressives and leftists in the West. Fascism and Communism share many traits--a general disdain for traditional religion and concepts of family, massive government control over all aspects of society, education, health care, a cradle-to-grave welfare state, the limitation of individual liberties in the name of the collective good, restricting civilian gun ownership, massive confiscatory tax collection, bringing industry under the control of the state, etc., etc. The main difference is that fascism is a national socialism, while communism is an international socialism (at least in theory, of course when the chips were down Stalin played up the nationalist angle just as much as Hitler). The idea that fascism is an offshoot of basic conservative principles of small government, lower taxation, free martket, the right to keep and bear arms, etc----is ridiculous, and one of the greatest popular myths.

Secondly, I don't think anyone ever said that Islam IS a left-wing movement. But what is obvious is that left wing movements have allied themselves with Islam. How clueless do you have to be not to recognize this? Did you even read the article Pamela wrote? I realize it's disconcerting for liberals to realize that many on their side of the fence are allied with repressive Islamic forces, but it is what it is. I don't think it's that hard to understand, either, as it's clear that many on the left share many of the same values as many Muslims, such as: the belief that Christianity is a terrible, awful religion, the belief that capitalism is evil and should be abolished, the idea that Jews and Israel are responsible for much of the world's problems, the belief that the history of the West is largely one of racism, imperialism and oppression, the belief that non-Western peoples and religions are innocent victims of the West, and are usually morally superior, etc. In many ways, they're natural allies, and this is evidenced by the reality that they are, in fact, allied. If you think Islam is so opposite from "left wing", why do you suppose that Muslims in Europe vote overwhelmingly for left-wing parties?
