Raymond Ibrahim: Obama Administration's War on Persecuted Christians

Over at the Investigative Project on Terrorism (via RaymondIbrahim.com) I recount some more recent evidence concerning the U.S. administration's complicity (links appear in original):

The Obama administration's support for its Islamist allies means lack of U.S. support for their enemies, or, more properly, victims—the Christian and other non-Muslim minorities of the Muslim world. Consider the many recent proofs:
According to Pete Winn of CNS:
The U.S. State Department removed the sections covering religious freedom from the Country Reports on Human Rights that it released on May 24, three months past the statutory deadline Congress set for the release of these reports. The new human rights reports—purged of the sections that discuss the status of religious freedom in each of the countries covered—are also the human rights reports that include the period that covered the Arab Spring and its aftermath. Thus, the reports do not provide in-depth coverage of what has happened to Christians and other religious minorities in predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East that saw the rise of revolutionary movements in 2011 in which Islamist forces played an instrumental role. For the first time ever, the State Department simply eliminated the section of religious freedom in its reports covering 2011… (emphasis added).

The CNS report goes on to quote several U.S. officials questioning the motives of the Obama administration. Former U.S. diplomat Thomas Farr said that he has "observed during the three-and-a-half years of the Obama administration that the issue of religious freedom has been distinctly downplayed." Leonard Leo, former chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, said "to have pulled religious freedom out of it [the report] means that fewer people will obtain information," so that "you don't have the whole picture."

Of course, censoring information is a regular theme under Obama: if the administration is suppressing knowledge concerning the sufferings of religious minorities under Islam, earlier it suppressed knowledge concerning Islam itself (see here for a surreal example of the effects of such censorship).

In "Obama Overlooks Christian Persecution," James Walsh gives more examples of State Department indifference "regarding the New Years' murders of Coptic Christians in Egypt and the ravaging of a cathedral," including how the State Department "refused to list Egypt as 'a country of particular concern,' even as Christians and others were being murdered, churches destroyed, and girls kidnapped and forced to convert to Islam. "

And the evidence keeps mounting....

Hi Pete!

A tad confusing, wouldn't you say? Your post suggests that the 'Muslim militants', as you call them, have a different agenda compared to the Muslim government.

That can't be, because they are both reading the same book, 'Al Qur'an, and following the same agenda!

One does it with a gun, the other does it a different way; but it's still the same agenda!

Something tells me that there's a goodly part of Obama's base that really wishes it could still feed Christians to the lions. I also remember when I lived in Illinois and the opposition [mostly Christian] pro-life groups gave to Obama when he was running for State Senator and their criticisms of his support for partial birth abortion. Perhaps he's using this as a kind of gratuitous revenge against people who are probably not going to be politically useful to him.

Obama's support of judges who want "hate speech" laws on the books, his missing a few "teaching moments" about the First Amendment, and the like lead me to believe that he's about the most First Amendment-challenged POTUS we've ever had. This is why I'm not surprised that the State Department has dropped reporting on persecution of Christians.

US foreign policy has never as far as I'm aware taken account of persecuted minorities if it doesn't meet some higher special interest.Especially not in the Middle East.Yes the US will support the overthrow of the Assad regime but only because Assad takes orders from Moscow,Beijing and Teheran instead of Washington.The biggest ally of the US since WW2 in the ME are the psychotic Saudi's and we all know how much they love minorities.Obama really isn't all that remarkable in his foreign policy compared to previous US presidents of the past they all follow a basic playbook which really only differs on details.For example Bush would abduct various terrorists and have them tortured in third countries and secret jails etc.Obama just assassinates them with his drones and doesn't bother capturing them.

Obama's dad called Islam hocus pocus - something Obama used to say. Now he's Islam's BFF!!

The whole 'Leftist' Islamic argument is based on a false premise. That is - all the trouble with Islam started recently.

It was George Bush's fault - it was the fault of the few radicals.

But the truth about the type of behaviour that the ideology supports flies in the face of this.

So to back your flawed premise - one needs to do away with the evidence. Don't print it in the newspapers, don't include it in reports...

If Obama was in Egypt with a Muslim name and a Muslim father - and was found to be attending church services - he would have been imprisoned.

Since Obama's outreach to the Muslim world - nothing has changed - and in many parts - it has actually gotten more hostile.

This parade is going to pass - and I think it is safe to stand for rights and freedoms and equality under the law - ideals which have become an embarrassment and an inconvenience - for this administration - when faced with Islam.

So long as Obama is not planning to alter US law in same light!!

That could be his big idea - to achieve the ultimate adulation from the Islamic world!!
