Sharia in action in Colorado: Muslims set off fireworks in defiance of ban, police told to ignore complaints

UPDATE: On July 8, Colorado Governor John W. Hickenlooper issued an executive order that actually did lift the statewide fireworks ban: "I hereby rescind Executive Order D 2012-015. This Executive Order rescinds the state-wide ban on open burning, including campfires, warming fires, charcoal grill fires, fused explosives, and FIREWORKS." See it here. He had issued the ban in an earlier executive order on June 14. This meant that Coloradans could not shoot off fireworks on July 4, but Muslims could at the end of Ramadan. And why did the police officers below not know that the ban had been lifted? Was it their malfeasance, or was the lifting of the ban not publicized for some reason, except to special groups?

A statewide ban on fireworks is not a statewide ban on fireworks when Muslims are setting them off. To enforce the ban would be "Islamophobic," doncha know.

Very few are talking about it here in Denver Colorado. American citizens were banned from celebrating our national birthday the Fourth of July. Fireworks were and are still banned unless it was to celebrate the end of Ramadan. I have asked several police officers what the huge fireworks show was and they replied that it was the local Islamic center celebrating. I then asked if the statewide ban on fireworks was still in effect and they said yes. So logically I asked did they have a permit for such a large display. The answer was no and that the police were not to respond to calls about it.

A couple of questions:
[1] "American citizens were banned from celebrating our national birthday the Fourth of July."
Does that mean that all fireworks were banned on 7-4, or only that individuals were forbidden to use fireworks, while official displays with permits -- at city parks or fairgrounds -- were allowed? It's hard to believe that ALL fireworks were banned.
[2] If fireworks are allowed with official permits, did the Moslems have one?
[3] If permits are possible and required, are other ethnic groups ever given permits? Like the Chinese on Chinese New Year's? Or the Mexicans on Cinco de Mayo?
[4] Why didn't the other Coloradans join in the celebration, with all the illegal fireworks they'd been hoarding? I would have. If the cops arrive, simply tell them you're Moslem.

I_M_F, I also live in (Northern) Colorado and have heard nothing of this until reading it here. There were several cities that called-off their displays in the wake of our recent fires. Loveland had a good show, which I attended (and saw muslims there, to my dismay). I think Loveland went ahead because their show is fired-off over the lake. If this story is true about Denver, it's pretty discouraging...

Agreed. We do muslims a HUGE disservice when we refuse to hold them to the same standards as the rest of us.

And, it could easily be argued by not holding them to the standards to which the rest of society adheres we are being racist - and not the other way round.

In a state plagued by wildfires, Muslims allowed to flout laws regarding public safety. The authorities surely fear Muslims' wrath more than their state burning to the ground.

So if the people from this Mosque start a raging forest fire, from an illegal fireworks display that's OK?

When did public safety become an issue to be avoided for certain religious groups?

With any luck, next time they do this, there will be a fire and it will burn down their Mosque first. It would serve them right.

The state lift the ban on firework on july 8, 2012 Ramada ended august 19,2012 since it didnot break the ban on firework it wasnot illegal.

The ban on firework display was lift on july 8,2012 so it was legal to have firework display most likely the mosque have than firework display company which got the lience to run the firework show. All the legal matter are taken care of all the i dot and t cross.

I couldn't find anything statewide for Colorado in a quick search, but here are the stats for Jefferson Country (suburban Denver area):

They include a fireworks ban—and a ban on sales of fireworks—dating from late June. Fire restrictions were eased in mid-July and lifted August first.
