Tanzania: Teenage girl who converted from Islam to Christianity gets two years prison for false accusation that she desecrated a Qur'an

Take a look at what is really going on here. This young lady could have folded and gone back to Islam to avoid prison, but she didn't. She said yes to Christ and no to the soul surrendering lot that belongs to every Muslima, especially in a Muslim dominant society. Eva has character and courage, something her parents and would be defenders lack. And if Islam is to be eradicated from the planet it will be by people like her, who say no to thought control even in the scariest of situations.

If she'd returned to Islam she would have been in prison in a different way. This way she grows in her relationship with Christ and is being formed into a force to be reckoned with. For those here who pray, please pray that she remains strong and that God keeps her safe from the normal Islamic prison routine. Her accusers are probably howling like rabid dogs right about now because she chose prison instead of Allah.

You said the important things well. I am adopting a daily practice of not only praying for Eva and those like her, but printing these articles and on Saturday, mailing the stack to the local chancery and the United States Council of Catholic Bishops. We'll see who tires first.

In the days when courageous Christians actually ran the Church, we'd be praying after every Mass for these martyrs. Names like Asia Bibi, Pastor Youssef, and Eva Abdullah would be household names. The average Catholic (my denomination) is sorely unaware of the atrocities visited upon our people as well as all non-Muslims in the name of Islam.

May our prayers be joined and answered by God.

*What the hell is going on here?*

Statistics for religion in Tanzania vary, since it is a touchy subject (as it so often is when Islam is involved). The census has not asked about religion since 1967.

Back then, Tanzania was majority-Christian.

The CIA World Factbook currently estimates that 30% of the population is Christian with Muslim being 35% and indigenous beliefs 35%.

Even if this is the case, Tanzania *is not* a Shari'ah state. Even were this charge true—and I have *no* reason to believe that it is—why are they enforcing Shari'ah norms?

Her parents disowned her after her conversion and a group of radicals in her hometown of Bagamoyo tried to persuade her to renounce her Christian faith. When she refused, they falsely accused her of desecrating a Qur'an.

What a brave girl—withstanding this at the age of 14. *Of course* the accusation was made because of her apostacy.

There is something else that all of us who care about freedom of conscience, religious freedom and freedom of speech can do.

We can join the Barnabas Fund's 'Proclaim Freedom' campaign.

They are gathering signatures for petitions which will be presented - hopefully by the truckload - to the governing bodies of many western countries, including the USA, UK, Australia and Canada.

Although Barnabas is focusing on Christians, because they in fact form the single largest group being subjected to persecution within Islamic countries and in certain other nasty places (e.g. North Korea), there *is* a broader focus.

And if you decide to circulate this petition amongst your friends, family, colleagues and wider social circle (hey, even sporting club), it offers the perfect opening for a short, educational conversation about Islam: since *Muslim* countries comprise the vast majority of the persecutors (you can mention that Muslim countries don't just persecute Christians, they persecute *anybody* who isn't a Muslim and *anybody* who has left or tries to leave Islam, irrespective of what belief system that person is taking up or looking into).

Tomorrow there should be a note about this petition in the pew sheet of my parish church, and I will be taking along a sheaf of copies of the petition, letting people know about it, and encouraging *everyone* in the congregation to sign it.

We have got to make sure that there is not one politician in any of our countries who can pretend that s/he has not been told about this issue, over and over, by multiple different people of different backgrounds.

That, on top of making sure that all non-Muslim religious leaders within the 'free' world, especially 'the West', have also got NO excuse for pretending they don't know what Muslims are doing to non-Muslims inside dar al Islam...and even beyond it, in any part of the non-Muslim world (such as Tanzania) where Muslims have become locally or regionally strong enough to think they can get away with sh*t.
