In the article, his argument that Islam is peaceful rests on the Treaty of Hudaibiyya, when Muhammad’s warlord activity against the Meccans was gaining in strength, but not quite strong enough yet to conquer Mecca, but he wanted Muslims to be able to make a pilgrimage there (for purely selfish reasons), so he negotiated a disadvantageous deal. He almost immediately unilaterally broke the treaty 18 months later and sacked Mecca.

A French magazine published a series of provocative cartoons Wednesday showing a nude Prophet Mohammed, likely to further fan the flames after a wave of Muslim protests over an anti-Islam film.

More than 30 people have been killed in attacks or violent protests linked to the controversial US-made film "Innocence of Muslims", including 12 people who died in an attack by a female suicide bomber in Afghanistan on Tuesday.

And fears that the anger could spread to Europe mounted Wednesday after French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo published cartoons caricaturing the Muslim prophet, including one showing his naked buttocks.

France stepped up security at its embassies in countries where there could be a hostile reaction to the cartoons, Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said, adding that he was "concerned" by the potential for a backlash.

The magazine's editor, originally a cartoonist who uses the name Charb, said the images would "shock those who will want to be shocked".

"The freedom of the press, is that a provocation?" he said. "I'm not asking strict Muslims to read Charlie Hebdo, just like I wouldn't go to a mosque to listen to speeches that go against everything I believe."

Charlie Hebdo is no stranger to controversy. Last year it published an edition "guest-edited" by the Prophet Mohammed that it called Sharia Hebdo and its offices in Paris were subsequently firebombed.

I’m a non-Muslim who lived in an Islamic country and lived with Muslims in a small South Asian country for 30 years until I immigrated to Canada. And in that 30 years, I have NEVER come across any reference to show that Muslims are capable of living in peace with non-muslims.

Muslims are “hijackers” – whenever they see something good and pure, they will “hijack” it in name of Islam. Anything good belongs to their Allah and whatever others say about that which does not fit in their mindset are merely corruptions. In another word, they do not accept ANYTHING different from what their Al Quran have described. Which also means that your free will to choose and right of freedom to live will go to the dogs IF they were ever took control of your country. Lastly, of you want to know how “peaceful” Islam is, just go to http://www.google and search “Taubah 9:28″ (or Tawbah 9:28). It will show some colorful examples of Al Quran verses.

All I have to say is this:

I and some friends have been asking muslims on the internet who are complaining about the movie to give an example from the movie showing why it is untrue or offensive.

NONE of them has responded by giving a single example from the movie. They have only responded by frothing at the mouth and "accusing" everyone of being tricksy jews.

A few who thought themselves cunning demanded that, instead of they themselves proving why it's untrue, it was I who should tell them why it is true. My responce to that is "GOTCHA!" if they were really so upset by anything untrue they claimed they saw in the movie then they would have been able to give the example the instant the question was asked. Bluffing was just proof that they couldn't provide a specific example from the film that was offensive or untrue.

They get really really mad after that- yet still refuse to provide any examples.

They quote all the usual stuff from the koran but don't reference anything in the movie. Ever.

None of those muslims who were saying how false and offensive the movie was would say why.

Not. A. Single. One.

Try it yourselves.

I've noticed how many Western converts to Islam always try to sugarcoat the religion and/or graft their modern views of morality & ethics on it. I don't think it involves taqiyya either, but a form of bias sampling, where they cherry pick the most benign references to Muhammad's behavior from Hadiths and Quran.

Of course this enters the realm of bid'ah (innovation), which is heresy when applied to interpretations of Islam's established doctrines. Most of the Islamic world has no interest in reforming the religion to conform to modern, Western sensibilities and that is something these converts never seem to understand.

Many Muslims have worked very hard to prove by there own actions that Islam is not really a "religion of peace" but in reality a religion of violence and murder.

This is the same charge - being leveled against Muhammad today.

'Abd-Allaah ibn Sa'd was one of those who used to write down the Revelation, then he apostatized and claimed that he [*the Prophet*] used to add whatever he wanted to the Revelation. This was a lie and a fabrication against the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and it was a kind of insult.

The fact that these and other accusations made by people of the time - still ring true - prove that in Islam - truth is not given the highest priority - it is Muhammad's way - considered to be Allah's will - that is held above all else.

This would be far more credible if the spokesperson were swarthy, spoke English in a South Asian accent, was located in Karachi, Dakka, Allahabad, or even London, and was named Ali Hassan rather than David Liepert.
