Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff calls Qur'an-burning pastor, asks him to practice Sharia-compliant self-censorship

It's come to this. Even the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff thinks that it if Muslims respond to something with murderous violence, it is up to the non-Muslims to change the way they behave so as to accommodate them. And so eleven years after 9/11, terrorism well and truly won: now if any group wants anything, they know that all they have to do in order to get it is rampage and riot and kill.

Also, this film didn't "spark violent protests." The film has been on YouTube since 2011. Someone found the film and thought it would serve as a pretext for attacks on Americans on September 11.

And in response, General Dempsey calls those who are supposedly responsible for the film and asks them to submit voluntarily to Sharia restrictions on the freedom of speech regarding Islam.

Turn out the lights. It's all over.

"Top U.S. military officer calls pastor over film," Reuters, September 12 (thanks to Gerard):

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the U.S. military's Joint Chiefs of Staff, spoke with Pastor Terry Jones by phone on Wednesday and asked him to withdraw his support for a film whose portrayal of the Prophet Mohammad has sparked violent protests - including one that ended with the death of America's envoy to Libya. "In the brief call, Gen. Dempsey expressed his concerns over the nature of the film, the tensions it will inflame and the violence it will cause," Dempsey's spokesman, Colonel Dave Lapan, told Reuters. "He asked Mr. Jones to consider withdrawing his support for the film." U.S. military officials are concerned that the film could inflame tensions in Afghanistan, where 74,000 U.S. troops are fighting. The Taliban earlier on Wednesday called on Afghans to prepare for a fight against Americans and urged insurgents to "take revenge" on U.S. soldiers over the film.

can you imagine. our highest military person is calling the pastor and asking him not to support the movie. pathetic.
m

"Yes sir, thank you sir for taking the time out of your busy schedule to call me, even though I didn't ask to be called."

Mm hm...?

Ah...

Oh...

I see...

Well, General, with all due respect, all I can say is: You can put your stars where the crescent moon don't shine. Buh-boo-yah."

(CBS News) In a press conference Wednesday addressing the recent violence in Egypt and Libya, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney doubled down on his criticism of the Obama administration's handling of the attacks, calling its response a "terrible course" that signaled the administration is standing "in apology for our values."

The Romney campaign put out a statement late last night -- on September 11 -- criticizing the president in connection with the violence. After he released the statement, it became known that four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens, were killed after an angry mob at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi in response to the production of an amateur anti-Islam film.

Speaking at a brief media availability Wednesday morning, the candidate defended his criticism, particularly targeting the White House over a statement from the Egyptian embassy that condemned "the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims -- as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions..."

I think Romney is right on the mark! What is the media's problem with Romney's statement? What is Obama's problem. If I were Romney, I would press this in the debates. Obama today seems like the proverbial cat that ate the canary.

POLITICO Breaking News
-------------------------------------------------
President Barack Obama responded Wednesday to Republican nominee Mitt Romney's criticism of the White House for its response to the attacks in Libya which killed four Americans.

"There's a broader lesson to be learned here: Governor Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later," Obama said in a pre-scheduled interview with CBS's Steve Kroft. "And as president, one of the things I've learned is you can't do that-it's important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts and that you've thought through the ramifications before you make them."

Obama declined to comment on whether he thought Romney's comments were irresponsible.

"I'll let the American people judge that," Obama said.

In 1969 I was a Marine. I cannot believe, repeat cannot believe, that this is what the military was become.

Girly men galore !!!

Here's the "movie" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iC6yGzpSvjU

It's a boring low low budget theater play. I just don't understand all the excitement...

If I were in Jones' shoes, my response would have been to ask "And just how would my withdrawal of support for this film improve the current situation?" and then listen to the poor general sink further into ridiculousness.

I bet someone political put the General up to that call...
I wonder who that was?

Duh Swami: You don't get it. The Good General IS political. Which means that the last American service that maintained some sort of stature and dignity, has been dhimmified. After all, this is the same Dempsey who lectured Americans in Afghanistan and Pakistan not to provoke the savages into killing them.

This is a borderline posse comitatus violation, seems to me; using the military to coerce civilians into certain behavior.

CJCS needs to STFU.

That doesn't mean it was the Generals own idea to call the Pastor...

I would think that as long as the general merely and politely asked, then it would be within his free speech rights and not a violation of posse comitatus. If I had received such a call I would never have forgotten that the general is my equal under the law. That goes for his commander-in-chief also.

I hope that you have some new projects coming on your web site. Something tells me we are going to need your practical advice more than ever. Thanks.

Insulting the enemy is a tradition with a pedigree - a paper trail leading to the dawn of history. General Dempsey, you are not going to repeal that tradition.

In fact, insulting one's enemy serves a useful purpose: it can provoke him and his supporters to expose themselves ... and bring about their own destruction.

Let the insults roll.

Arguably the General is correct tactically because his immediate concern is to protect American lives, but quite incorrect strategically because what he said goes counter to long-term Constitutional matters (thanks again, Islam, for showing quite plainly that you are an inveterate enemy of the American Constitution). Good example of how tactics and strategy can be at such odds with one another at times that choosing between the two creates quite the dilemma.

For the record, I'd go with strategy here. Big time. Which means the General, optimally, should have just said nothing for the time being.

I watched a 5 minute clip of this film. It makes “The Hottie And The Nottie” starring Paris Hilton look like a Steven Spielberg production by comparison. It was extremely offensive and deliberately insulting and provocative to Muslims. If someone depicted Jesus this way, I would be furious. But I wouldn't kill anybody over it. I am also sorry and angry over the loss of 4 innocent lives who, ironically, were trying to help the Libyan people.
The best documentaries I've seen on the subject of Islam (Iranian style) can be found at http://www.iraniumthemovie.com/ . They are respectful, educational, entertaining and professionally done.

General Martin Dempsey deserves a dishonorable discharge. If he wants to inject himself into the civilian world he has already overstepped his authority. Suppose he said give me ten more movies and koran burnings every Friday, to help flush out our enemies? That he could have means he has become too political, and must be immediately ejected somehow from the military.

If his judgment is that non-violence civilian speech in the US is the cause of violence beyond our borders then he might fit well within Morsi's new Egyptian army that views the very existence of Jews and Israel as sufficient cause to wage war, to continue the incessant 1,4000-year Islamist war on freedom.

It's time to take a stand, against the savages who perpetrate this violence and against the apologists who want us to submit to this bullying by muslims. Captulation hasn't worked before and it never will. It's time to stand up to muslim bullies and non-muslim ones too.

The General was grievously wrong. There is no excuse for his behavior. And that's that.

Clearly, the Chairman of the JCS needs to be reminded of two things:

(1) The U.S. Constitution - he has no authority to be telling a pastor (or anyone else) what to do.

(2) His oath of office:

Text of the Oath

I, Martin Dempsey, do solemnly affirm that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

The U.S. Embassy employees in Cairo also need to be reminded of their oaths of federal office.

Freedom of Speech is enshrined as an individual liberty in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. It is a right, not a responsibility, and one has a right to be "misguided" in its application, irrespective of who is offended, insulted, etc.

tcs,
Poor film quality doesn't mean there are scenes that are not in Islamic scripture. I watched the 14 minute version, and can say definitively that there was nothing inaccurate about the scenes. The only way to make a film this "insulting" about Jesus would be to fabricate scenes that don't exist in the Bible.

There would be no point in making a fake account of Muhammad. The truth is Islam's worst enemy. Muslims can't bare to have non-Muslims see how abysmal Islam really is.

Once again, the O's administration is tone deaf to the First Amendment. They also give Terry Jones a prominence he does not deserve.

However, my own guess is that the murder of our diplomats in Libya has nothing to do with any film's purported blasphemies, and much to do with Qaida trying to tell the world that it is still around and a force to be reckoned with.

This is no different than General Casey saying as bad as the massacre at Ft. Hood was, it would be worse if diversity was a casualty of that massacre. He still has a job. Sadly, these are the types of people who now populate the upper echelon of our once-proud military.

At a time when weasels like Gen. Dempsey and his deplorable ilk think nothing of wantonly butchering his own troops through naive insistence the disastrous COIN policies, does the lives a few more the 74,000 brave soldiers fighting against the savages Afghanistan make any difference? Were our honored soldiers allowed to be soldiers instead of armed social workers, the miserable situation in Afghanistan would not exist. In the meantime: the American nation should take a hard look at the treasonous ideas of it's failed leadership.

The world is becoming MUBAR-ed up! Time for a general, or perhaps, an Arab Spring, cleaning!

White House fears angry American public as Roman Emperors fear the anger of armed citizens of Rome.

On 911, White House trembles hearing people were going after Muslims. George Bush coined Islam as a religion of peace, and the angry public were placated.

Therefore, Islam is religion of peace as intended by White House.

It certainly is easier than calling all the imams who will be calling for the pastor to be killed.

Islam is like a forest littered with firewood any spark will set it off and there will be sparks no matter what anyone in the West does.

So General Dempsey, if I walk out of my home and get shot by a raving maniac, it's my fault I shouldn't have been outside?? How about you doing what we pay you to do which is ensuring that Americans and American interests are safeguarded!!
