I realize the US and the European powers give money to Muslim regimes beyond the inflated prices we pay for their oil in hope of buying influence and peace.

What we need is an INFORMTION BLITZ!!!
If everyone who posts comments on Jihad Watch and believes that Islam is evil/a threat to civilization would gather facts in support of this and disseminate them widely, we could educate millions of naive Americans about the dangers of Islam. Write 10 different posts with facts, figures and quotations on your word processor. Use copy, cut and paste. Then send these posts to a hundred different news outlets that allow comments, one at a time, when the news stories are relevant. Please be accurate and factual and no hate speech. We already hear enough hate speech from Muslims. BTW, I think most people who skim the comments only stop on the shorter ones.
Do this before it's too late and our freedom of speech is curtailed.

The effect was only ever so slightly ruined by the fact he was the spitting image of the bearded and roaring men we see on news photos these days in front of US embassies.

Free speech yes, Jihad no. The trailer is very poorly done and not very effective at satire because of the comical overdubbing and people crudely cut and pasted into backgrounds. It now seems that Sam Bacile was a made up name and the person behind the "film" was Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a Copt.

Why did he claim to be an Israeli-American Jew who raised money from 100 Jews to produce a Movie? Was this an anti-Semitic ploy to defame Jews?
