Freed Pakistani Christian girl accused of blasphemy will need armored vehicle, bodyguards

May Almighty God bless and exalt this Christian girl and her fellow Christians, the Salt of the Earth and the Leaven of Heaven.

Barack Hussein Obama clearly shows himself to be no brother to this little one.

Yesterday morning on CBC Radio One's "The Current" show, I heard an interview with two Pakistanis, an imam and and female journalist who were discussing this case.

The imam's position was drearily predictable. Anyone caught desecrating a Qur'an must face "justice," which amounts to execution in his point of view. The female journalist stridently disagreed with him, stating that there was nothing in the Qur'an that stipulated such a penalty.

The obvious follow up question, why should the Qur'an be used as the source of law, was not asked by the interviewer. This is the only question worth asking these people, asked rhetorically if at all. And since subtlety doesn`t seem to be valued in that society, plain-speaking, strident objection to such persecution will serve civilization better in the long run.

The Guardian is simply disgusting.

I understand that according to her *family* and the *records of the Catholic church to which she belongs* (I assume there would be a baptismal record, for starters, and the Catholics are pretty good about keeping records) she is ELEVEN.

The claim that she is '14' is based solely on the say-so of Pakistani Muslims...who have, shall we say, a vested interest in trying to make themselves look not quite so bad, given the storm of condemnation that has arisen.

Eleven identifies her, in the eyes of the outside world, as a child, and defines the pogrom against her as extra-specially heinous and vicious; 'fourteen year old' identifies her to the outside world as a 'teenager', thus slightly reducing the horror with which your average decent westerner responds to the story.

I believe her family and the church; NOT the Muslim 'doctors' (or whoever) that the Pakistani authorities got in to 'investigate' her age.

But the unspeakable 'Guardian' and everyone else are automatically taking the *Muslims* word for it, over the word of the family and the church.

How *insane* is this? a little developmentally disabled 11-year-old needing this kind of security to save her from the ravening Muslim mob?

Even her own lawyer is lying about her age. Everywhere else she has been described as just eleven.

That's right. This case would have been shameful enough, but it has come to light that the local Imam fabricated the evidence against her.

Earlier in the week, Muslims living near Chishti's mosque spoke of their fury at the arrest of their imam, who they insisted had been framed.

"The truth is Rimsha did burn our prayers," said Mohammad Zaman Malik, an owner of a construction business. "She confessed and apologised in front of everyone."

Well, of course she did. She is a developmentally disabled child who has been pulled away from her family and imprisoned. And that's assuming that she hasn't been abused or even tortured, as is common in Pakistani prisons.

She's working because she is a member of an impoverished, oppressed minority. I'm sure everyone has to work.

And heaven forfend that Muslims should *ever* come under any criticism—even if they are trying to murder a falsely accused, developmentally-disabled *child*.

Although many of the Christian families that initially fled the area have since returned, many others have come back simply to pack up and leave. They complain that they have been forced to close their tiny concrete churches – Chishti and others had long complained about the "noise" of their services – as well as being subject to derogatory name-calling and the refusal of some shopkeepers to sell them food.

This was why the Imam framed the poor girl in the first place—to force the local Christians to move away from his Mosque. This is despicable in any case, but he knew this would likely lead to violence against the Christian community, including violence against a vulnerable child.

And complaining about the noise of Christian churches would be rich, given the noise of Muslim Muezzins—except that under Islam, Christians may not ring bells, or even make it apparent that they are gathering for worship.

When you have laws that are unjust to begin with, *of course* they are also open for further abuse—and few are worse than this case against little Rimsha.
