I see that Karen Armstrong for her Twitter account has chosen the name "KarenAnchorite". Perhaps a glimmer of a midlife crisis, remembering with not a little bittersweet fondness those years of the 60s when she was a Catholic nun, and she would look eagerly forward to the bimestrial visiting lectures of that distinguished professor who reminded her so much of Thomas Merton... or maybe it was just a hot flash.

Inspecting her bibliography, amongst her copiously chockfull oeuvre of oeufs she has laid over the years (none golden, I'm afraid, though quite a few goose's), one caught my eye:

Epilogue: What The Future Holds for Islam.

The Islamic Society of North America is pushing full steam ahead for respectability. As such, it provides cover for a host of speakers of questionable character but plausible credentials. It also provides effective cover to display Islam in the US as a mainstream religion, the same as Judaism, Catholicism, or Methodism.

The strategy seems to be working. There is no shortage of mainstream religious organizations, such as the Union for Reform Judaism, and the Catholic hierarchy in the US, that lend their name and support to the ISNA.

The end goal, it seems to me, is to stifle examination of an aggressive political philosophy and religious organization which is devoted to fundamentally changing the principles of US government. The strongest wedge of Islam in the US is, of course, immigration. There is virtually no discussion of using standards for immigrants as a means of excluding people who are devoted to an ideology specifically contradictory to the US Constitution. This means most Muslims, of course.

As shown by the presence of Suhil Kahn, a major fundraiser for the Republican Party (where does he get his funds, by the way?), the Muslim push for penetration and respectability is by no means limited to liberals and the Democrats.

Islam is one of the best examples we have of intellect and wasted talent. Ramadan continues the tradition of the best minds in the Islamic world being dedicated solely to thinking only on Islam.

And you do have to wonder - what it is after 1000 years - that is motive to continue to do the same.

But Ramadan understands the problem with Islam and western society - and that is that it has nothing to offer - in reality. So his next step - would be to attempt to create insecurity - in the hopes that people will call for Islam. That Islam will be wanted - where men are not forced to take it.

Look at Islam's treasured science - gained or obtained from the at the time of conquest of more advanced nations or from passing travellers - such as with the number zero - and claimed as Islamic or 'Arab' - is like an old encyclopaedia that was never updated.

They were outdone in every way - believing all the while - they were superior.

And now they find themselves swamped by modernity - they took no part in creating.

Interesting John Esposito should be involved in the section clearly promoting Shari'a - in a 'Moral' - read Islamic society. It seems to point to the promotion of the Islamic religion over human rights. Saudi sponsored - bought and paid for. Marked as SOLD.

Imam Rauf - He'll say anything! While praising how shari'a is practised in Iran - tells us that there is no conflict between the shari'a and the US Constitution.

Karen Armstrong - Sister Clueless. She once said that she understood Muslim women's dress as when she dressed in a nun's habit men did not look at her. A very confused statement - that's because - You were a NUN!! Obviously there was an underlying suggestion - that dress denotes or influences behaviour - but on visiting the Islamic world - hookers wear the same long gown and headscarf as all the other women. Her statement is set on undermining western society - based on a utopian vision of the Islamic world that doesn't exist.

As demonstrated by this program, ISNA & the MSA are OBSESSED with fighting islamophobia, insults and perceived aggression against muslims, either by the NYPD or in Burma or Kashmir. But NOT ONE DAMNED WORD of concern or condemnation for the thousands of acts of violence and subjugation of non-believers around the world. Thirty-three pages of whining & navel-gazing and not a single break-out session to discussing combating all the "misunderstanding" of islam practiced by their fellow musselmen. What a pathetic, self-congratulating taqiyyah fest.
