Montana: President of ice cream company faces resignation for mistakenly offending Muslim

This shows that Leftists and Islamic supremacists will destroy anyone and everyone based on perceived slights to Muslims. Matt Schaeffer is guilty of nothing but mistakenly thinking someone who was writing to him was in Pakistan, since a Pakistani map showed up with the message. But for this, he must resign and his company is in danger: it's "racism," doncha know. Muslims clearly experience no actual racism (what race is Islam again?), and so have to trump up and magnify efforts like this.

If you're near Livingston, Montana, buy Wilcoxson's Ice Cream and be sure that you express your support for Matt Schaeffer and the freedom of speech in the face of this politically correct intimidation.

"Facebook trouble for a Montana company," by Jan Falstad for the Billings Gazette, September 28 (thanks to Maxwell):

The president of Livingston-based Wilcoxson’s Ice Cream, which runs a plant in Billings, offered to resign Friday following social-media fury over a one-sentence Facebook response.

Although he insists he meant nothing derogatory, Wilcoxson’s president Matt Schaeffer, of Livingston, offered to step down to save the company from fallout over his response to a Muslim customer who asked if the company used any gelatin containing pork in its ice cream.

The meltdown started the evening of Sept. 21 when a man in Sheridan, Wyo., posted a Facebook comment about Wilcoxson’s “cookies and cream” flavor ice cream containing gelatin.

“Does it contain pork? I am a Muslim and love your ice cream and when I read it today I was shocked. I look forward to you writing me back. Thank you. If possible, if it does have pork gelatin please tell me what flavors do so I can avoid them thanks again :)”

Schaeffer said he was tired that night, was responding to a series of posts and only read to the “pork” part of the sentence before clicking on the writer’s Facebook page where he saw a map of Pakistan and quickly wrote this response:

“We don’t deliver outside of Montana, certainly not Pakistan.”

Schaeffer said he didn’t see the address of Sheridan, Wyo., because he didn’t read that far.

“There was a map on his Facebook page with a map of Pakistan, with a balloon in the center. I presumed he was sending this from Pakistan,” Schaeffer said.

The commenter took offense and wrote:

“What are u talking about!!??? I think.ur comment is rude to assume I live in Pakistan.”

The man said “just because of your ignorance, I wont buy your ice cream and definitely wont recommend it.”

Alisa Prigge, of Denver, who said she and her husband are friends of the Wyoming man who asked about the gelatin, sent a letter on Sept. 26 to Wilcoxson’s calling for a boycott to “stand up to racism, ignorance and intolerance” and sent copies to Montana reporters. She said that her friend is an American citizen who was born in this country.

Prigge said she hadn’t talked to Schaeffer to hear his version of the story before she sent the email.

This was an honest mistake, Schaeffer said, adding he apologized to the man on Wednesday and again Friday during an interview with Sheridanmedia.com

“It was wrong. I screwed up,” he said, calling himself a social-media beginner who has only used Facebook for four months. Schaeffer actually took over the Wilcoxson’s Facebook page from a fan who created it after the fan said it became too much work.

Wilcoxson’s is a company that has a history of shying away from media attention.

Schaeffer refused to grant interviews and tours of the ice cream plant until this year when Wilcoxson’s celebrated its 100th anniversary.

“This company has lived through how many wars and economically diverse situations? It’s tremendous. One hundred years in Montana selling ice cream? That’s incredible,” Schaeffer told The Gazette on Friday.

The company does not deliver ice cream outside of Montana, he said, but will ship some for special occasions.

“It can cost $175 dollars to send a $3 bucket of ice cream, with the dry ice, the packer and Fed Ex,” he said.

The story quickly went viral.

The initial coverage Wednesday by the Bozeman Chronicle called Schaeffer’s comment “inflammatory” in its headline and lead sentence.

With every retelling, the story picked up some errors and omissions.

On Friday, a story on NBC News, where Schaeffer offered to resign, identified him as chief executive officer, instead of president.

The Huffington Post also called Schaeffer the CEO in its headline and story.

It also issued a correction for saying that Wilcoxson’s headquarters were in Billings, instead of Livingston. Schaeffer said he did not talk to the Huffington Post.

The Daily Mail’s online site in the United Kingdom published a Thursday story saying none of the angry comments seem to be coming from Montana.

But The Mail said hostile commentators were flooding Yelp, a business review Website, and including one that said, “Wilcoxson’s is a horrible company run by hateful people.”

Schaeffer had never visited that site either.

The derogatory telephone calls have been coming from out of state, Schaeffer said.

“In-state calls, including from Sheridan, have been very positive and supportive,” he said.

After negative comments started pouring in on Wednesday, Schaeffer took the company’s Facebook page down.

“The page will be put back up soon. It will be run by somebody other than myself, who is more adept at it,” he said.

Ah, the games continue (even where ice cream is involved). They will as long as Islam is looked upon as a good thing or, at worst, something innocuous. As soon as Islam is looked upon correctly, i.e., very much a bad thing, then these stupid games will cease. Not there yet. Even in Montana, which shows that Islam's malevolent tentacles are very long indeed.

So sick of Islam. And so sick of continued apologies for Islam. As long as Islam is given a pass, then the world remains foolish, if not mad. Time for a beer.

This is the price we pay for having no clue what Islam is.

I have lived all of my 48 years in the great state of Wyoming, and I find it personally embarrassing to have to share my state with a hyper sensitive Islamist up in Sheridan. I have never had Wilcoxson's ice cream, but I will now buy as much as I can when we go to visit my brother - in -law in Billings next month. I would urge Mr. Schaeffer not to give up his job on account of an honest error.

Quite right. Ignorance often exacts an enormous toll.

"Alisa Prigge, of Denver, who said she and her husband are friends of the Wyoming man who asked about the gelatin, sent a letter on Sept. 26 to Wilcoxson’s calling for a boycott to “stand up to racism, ignorance and intolerance” and sent copies to Montana reporters."

Seems pretty priggish, all right.

That story is preposterous and so is Islam.

I'm really tired of fighting against a fascist and moronic ideology. But there's so much at stake.

Enjoy your beer, I'm enjoying my wine. Cheers and le'chaim.

Resigning over a simple mistake and misunderstanding? Inflammatory? That is insane.

Muslims are always victims! And always offended and whining!

I suggest we stop all financial aid to muslim countries and only send pacifiers and Prozac.

A side effect of Prozac is sexual dysfunction, so this would also have an effect on rape rates and pedophilia.

Another side effect is small increase in suicide attempts, but not sure if this would be detectable...

I hope they begin adding pork derived gelatin starting with the next batch.

I'm sometimes tired too, epistemology, but we must resist such fatigue because, as you stated, so much is at stake.

Islam must not succeed. I don't think it will because it is so contrary to truth and truth, even though it takes tortuous routes at times, prevails in the long run (as an example, how could the Jewish people have survived to this day, considering all the travails they have been through, if truth were not as powerful as I think it is). I remain optimistic that with Islam, about which there is nothing true that can't be found elsewhere and about which much falsehood can't be found most anywhere else, truth, an enemy of Islam to be sure, will eventually emerge victorious (though probably after exhausting all the lesser possibilities until the optimum one).

Enjoy your wine, epistemology, and cheers to you and to life. As ever, I remain your friend.

The President of the compancy was wrong for the answer he gave, he could have answer the question about pork. The Muslim man overreacted to the president answer to his question.

“What are u talking about!!??? I think.ur comment is rude to assume I live in Pakistan.”

How is it rude to assume that a Muslim lives ... in a Muslim nation? I cannot follow this logic at all.

The company should tell them that they use kosher gelatin so it's okay for them but... since they're so very much looking for victimhood and blame for all others, then they should ,try someone else's delicious ice cream and shove a two by four where the moon doesn't shine, and or where muslims shoved one up the murdered infidels orifice-the slaughtered american ambassador, Christopher Stevens.

This is the second time today I've come across reference to gelatin as a byproduct of pork, and therefore unacceptable to Muslims. Here's what islamichistorymonth.com is telling Canadian teachers to do:

"When you give out candies as rewards, are you sure that they do not contain gelatin? Gelatin is a byproduct of pork. Muslims do not eat pork."

Found this story through the Blazing Cat Fur and Scaramouche blogs earlier today. The Toronto District School Board is onboard for October, Islamic History Month.

Lots of problems with the curriculum materials from this site, by the way.

Watch for this demand to grow.

As for the ice cream story - blown out of all proportion.

The ice cream president is dumb ass. No one asked whether the ice cream was delivered to Pakistan. He resign due to his stupidity; I won't credit that to being a victim of free speech.

It's simply a dumb corporate ass.

No ssa, the president of the company is not a "dumb ass" because he thought the Muslim was from Pakistan. Didn't you read the article? The Facebook account of the message from the Muslim had a map of Pakistan, and the president was tired from a long day of answering emails.

However, while I appreciate Spencer and the rest of the readers feeling they should be supportive of Schaeffer, his impulsive reflex to offer to resign is precisely a show of spineless dhimmitude, the kind Spencer regularly lambastes. I don't see any tactical advantage to treating Schaeffer differently in this regard: by his anxiously solicitous proactive dhimmitude, Schaeffer is effectively aiding and abetting the problem we have all been decrying until our throats are sore.

Schaeffer is terribly wrong. He should not apologize or offer to resign or do anything conciliatory at all. He should just explain the fact of his particular error which was blown out of proportion by the Muslim in question (and then by Mrs. Priggsnott of Denver).

"“What are u talking about!!??? I think.ur comment is rude to assume I live in Pakistan.”

Why would that be rude? This person is intentionally stretching the concept of what is rude beyond reason.

Not all FB pages have information printed under the profile photo about where people live. If it had been on the page when the VP accessed it then it would have been THE FIRST THING his eyes saw as it is right under the profile image- unless that information is intentionally not made visible by the FB page owner.

So it wasn't there when the VP accessed the page. It may have been made visible afterwords but not when the VP accessed it.

And I must point out that we only have these people's word for it that the person in question really does live in the US (or even exists- muslim "activists" use fake FB profiles all the time to spread propoganda via comments sections). considering that they are motivated by political ideology, I refuse to accept anything as true that they do not prove IRL.

This is intentionally cooked up. Muslim "activists" use all sorts of subtle facebook trickery to mess with people's heads. HOWEVER it probably wasn't intentional to hide the persons place of origin- they just exploited what happened as a result.

This fake outrage is really about bullying the company to start using "halal" gelatine. (but really really about being commanded what to do by muslims)

If they do screw up and aquiesce to the ravening muslims, there are some fine Israeli made pork free gelatines that are easily found from kosher food suppliers. HA HA HA!

Schaeffer! stand up to this BS and DO not resign ...oh I hope he changes his mind.

Alisa Prigge; you lied, and your name is mud, so sue me ...

“stand up to racism, ignorance and intolerance”

Buzz-words few question anymore as to whether or not they're true.

slightly OT

i once heard a businessman from Pakistan tell what his concept of FREEDOM was. His answer: Freedom to me is being able to criticize my neighbor.

the questioner was a Saudi Christian living in a southern state.

I wasn't necessarily supportive of Schaeffer. I "merely" observed that the games will continue as long as Islam is looked upon as a positive.

Okay so Wilcoxson thought this guy was from Pakistan and it turns out he wasn't.
Can somebody please explain to me why this is hateful and racist and requires this fellow to resign??
Is there something bad about being from Pakistan that it becomes such a terrible insult?
I really hope that there is more to this story then just this.
If this is all there is then America has a big problem with political correctness.
Call me a confused Canadian but I fail to see what all the fuss is about.

No I disagree. I think this is the price you pay for putting up with Islam.
This is ridiculous. if you people are that sensitive then you should all go home.

There was something very ironic that happened back in the late 70's in Toronto canada where pakistani muslims demanded that an image of Ala Jolson be removed from a Government ad because Jolson was a racist jew that mocked blacks.
I had to shake my head as the ad was pulled because Muslims felt safe to attack jews while they played the victim and cried Racism as if muslims were a race.
Meanwhile this year Toronto had a pakistani book store selling a book on how to beat your wife, the store didn't deny it, they just told the MSM they no longer carry it.

Hmmmmm, the jew-hating bigot calling the infidel racist.

Here's the number for Wilcoxson's ice cream:

(406) 222-2370

I'm going to call tomorrow and ask if I can pay for a couple of gallons over the phone by CC. Then I'm going to tell them to give the ice cream away to their customers however they see fit.

I will also tell them that this is my way of supporting their business and their president in the face of this unwarranted "RACIST" attack on them by an aggressive muslim supremacist and his equally militant leftist pal Miss Piggy.

I hope those of you who can will do so as well.

What a wonderful gesture, Istanbul_Chick! ...Bless You! :)

"Buzz-words few question anymore as to whether or not they're true."

Exactly right.

I suspect that most folks never bother to determine what "radical Islam" means. As it is thrown around so often, people just "understand" what it means; even though there is no such thing.

Ditto for "Mulim extremist".

Ms Prigge-y certainly is a prig and a pig.

Remember when you could count on a person from Wyoming to be a rugged individual and freedom lover? Guess the parasitic entitlement society has hit everywhere.

"Can somebody please explain to me why this is hateful and racist and requires this fellow to resign??"

It doesn't "require" it. Schaeffer is volunteering to resign in order to smooth things over. He should stand his ground and tell the truth -- which is that he has nothing to apologize for, and no reason to change his life one iota because of this minor misunderstanding.

When the new president of Wilcoxson's Ice Cream, Raddiq "Rick" Al-Husseini takes over after Schaeffer's "retirement", they'll have a new slogan:

Ice cream, you scream, we all scream for jihad.

Conservatives should stand up to these liberal commie scum call for a boycott. Boy the muzzies are sure thin skinned but just wait and see when their numbers grow how tolerant they will be to non - Muslims. Orr really untolerant!!

Does it contain pork?

The answer should be:

No, but it contains...

1- Muhammad's sweat which Umm Sulaym used for her perfume mixture. (Kanz al-Ummal, al-Hindi #18687)

2- Muhammad's sputum to enhance the flavor. (Bukhari 5.59.428)

3- The remaining water of Muhammad's ablutions. (Bukhari 1.4.189)

4- A mouthful of water which Muhammad used to rinse his mouth with. (Bukhari 5.59.617)

5- Muhammad's snot, because "His snot was better to the Muslims than musk.. they covered their faces with it.." (Explanation of Sahih al-Bukhari, Ibn Battal)

6- A few drops of Muhammad's blood from his cupping therapy. (Ilaj bil-aghdhiyah, al-Ilbiri 11/1)

7- A cup of Muhammad's urine, ask Umm Ayman about the taste! (Talkhis al-Habir, Ibn Hajar 1/46)

After all, "The whole body of the Apostle is pure even his human waste." (Dr Ali Gomaa, the Grand Mufti of Egypt)

Bon appétit!

oh noooos!!! Ice cream Jihad!

did the ice cream man have his life threatened by the moslems, only the media covered up this part of the story because they are scared of the moslems too?

A film about the Muslim Brotherhood in America:
(This is completely different from the ten part video course I've posted a few times.)

The Project: Part One

The Project: Part Two

Remember, Muslims are always "shocked" (i.e. offended) doncha' know.

Which means it's always SOMEONE ELSE'S responsibility, not the Muslim's. What a crock.

Notice how this (no such thing as) "moderate" Muslim COULD have just replied back with a simple "I'm not in Pakistan" but instead it's the you, You, YOU, YOU! YOU! HOW RUDE OF *YOU*!! arrogance-attack.

At the drop of a hat, Muslims are "offended" and go berserk.

Be forewarned.

Loyality??

If this guy loyality to the US or Pakistan? He is causing the confusion by posting a Pakistani Flag instead of a US one on his facebook page.

And since he is so sensitve about avoiding pork byproducts, why he does not select one of the many "great" muslim nations, to live in????? since, aparatently, he does not want to live in Pakistan.

I have been to Pakistan several time. They never showed respect to any other religion, culture or race . What hypocracy!!!!!!!

Alisa Prigge must have been searching high and low for someone or something she could accuse of racism etc for so long that when she finally came across a case brought forward by an offended Muslim near her she was unable to distinguish between what she hoped it would be and what really happened.
I really hope someone near her will take the trouble to explain everything to her in detail once she is off her high, and perhaps there'll be an apology forthcoming.

muslims are so sensitive yet they're soooo insensitive to others ...

What a pathetic story! Are we warned that meat is halal and has been inhumanely slaughtered with alien incantations recited? No labelling - nothing! It's a two-way street, is respect - let them show some to us for a change! It is always those who are insecure and know that their mantra is wrong that are so touchy and permanently indignant - intolerance is the hall-mark of an unsound cult - no true, credible religion or belief has to be permanently on the 'war path'

Boycott - Willie Gs..

Wow, media milking this stupid story all the way to UK. The left is really TRYING to stir up trouble. Also if the Muslim guy lives in Wyoming, how does he LOVE their ice cream if they dont deliver outside of Montana?? In any matter, this is totally ridiculous.

But most importantly this story shows that we are a very tolerant people in America, because if this is the best they can come up with as far as discrimination of Muslims in America that shows something doesnt it?

"this...Muslim COULD have just replied back with a simple "I'm not in Pakistan"

The simple truth is that his being a Muslim was really irrelevant to the issue.

He didn't need to make his "religious" identity known. He did that just because he loves telling everyone that he's a Muslim.

Merely asking if the ice cream was made with gelatin would have been enough.

So: Alisa Prigge of Denver, Colorado, in attacking Schaeffer of Montana joins up with one Khan (?) of Sheridan, Wyoming - a pretty safe bet according to her FB friends' list containing very few non-Caucasians but a Khan in Sheridan, Wyo. This is all very easy at a comfortable distance, more difficult still to refuse an explanation and an apology.
I'm sure once the offended party and the victim get to sit down and explain their differences, everything will come out allright in the end.

To prove how ridiculous this is, just ask yourself, what if the customer was an Orthodox Jew posing the same question and Schaeffer saw a map of Israel on his FB page and responded, "we don't deliver to Israel." Would there be the same outcry and would he be labeled a 'racist?' I hardly think so.

Welcome to the thin-skinned world of Islam, the race that is not a race. They take offense at everything under the sun. Well, I find the teachings of Islam and the so-called prophet offensive. They offend my American culture and my Christian faith. Begone, pagan barbarians! Leave my country quickly. We have no need of priggish backward, religious thugs.

Will be in Montana later this month. Will be buying Wilcoxson Ice Cream. It must be wonderful. Too bad he thought he had to appologize.

Offering to resign only denotes some sort of guilt. Stupid and weak, again, and I'm sick of these spineless people.

NBC News = a hateful company.

The Huffington Post: hatemonger.

Islam and muslims: hatemongers

“In-state calls, including from Sheridan, have been very positive and supportive,” he said.

(Hooray for Americans!)

muslims are a virus and the world needs a vaccination.

What is a devout Muslim doing hanging around a Bar?

She's not a devout Muslim; she's a devout Leftist.

Hey, gang!

I've been calling Wilcoxson's Ice Cream all morning and it's just a recording. However, despite not being able to order ice cream as a show of support you can call and leave a message as I have done.

The number is: (406) 222-2370

One day I learned that a truck carrying cow carcasses, bloody bones,no visible meat, was headed for a place where the entire load would be made into gelatin, for...ta da...a generic "jello."
I did research and found that gelatin is made from the hooves and bones of cattle. I was aghast at the thought. Not religious objections, just the thought of eating the hooves. Rather like the pig feet that my parents bought pickled and really liked.

This guy who sent the question about the gelatin in the ice cream was just trying to get a new problem started. Otherwise, he could just have asked without including his religion. And if he is not from Pakistan, why display the map? To cause the reader to believe what was later "denied" to be true...that the guy was not even in the U.S.

And every time someone apologizes for a non-offense, it only makes it harder for the next person targeted to stand up and say he/she did nothing wrong. Some jobs teach one to take "ownership" of the perceived/real errors that cause complaint from customers and try to make things right even when the employee did nothing wrong. This is not a bad thing unless the customer is one like this guy who just had to point out why he must know about the pork. He could have just said to himself: 'when in doubt, leave it out' and not eaten any more ice cream. Or look at the listed ingredients. Or decide not to create a problem. But now that he has, he will feel that sense of pride that only people who create trouble can know. And it will fade and he will feel the need to create more turmoil. Sickening and so unloving of one's neighbor.

The muslim prick must not have been too worried about eating 'pork' because he admitted that he loves the ice cream. If he was concerned about gelatin made from pork being an ingredient, he shouldn't have eaten it until he knew for sure.

If I got an e-mail from someone with a map pointing to Pakistan plastered on it, I too would assume he lived in Pakistan. He is described as a Pakistani-American, one of those hyphenated, not-really-American types who find it necessary to identify his national origin, which in his case is certainly nothing to be proud of. He is obviously quite proud to be a Pakistani first, American second, so why should he be insulted? This is typical muslim grievance theater, blown all out of proportion by everyone involved. But it gave the liberal champions of the (un)oppressed another opportunity to exaggerate, excoriate, and rant about non-existent 'racism', and that is surely their favorite past time. It makes them feel like real human beings with laudable values instead of the pathetic, self-hating, group-thinkers and relativists they are. Damn, if they want to do good deeds, they could donate to homeless shelters, children's hospitals, work in a food bank or soup kitchen, whatever, but oh, I forgot. Liberals won't part with their resources for a worthy cause, that's the government's job and it's their job to identify the 'victims'.

The insanity must be contagious because it seems to be infecting more people every day. Aren't there more important issues to address like islamic terrorism, the muslim brotherhood, the miserable economy, our Marxist president, the future of our country? God, things are looking bleaker by the day.

Ridiculous!
Everyone is walking on eggshells these days.

I hope this is just a "phase"; kind of like Sexual Harassment was, for some folks. Let me explain.

Sexual Harassment is serious, of course, but remember when it was a REAL hot button? I mean when there was a potential complaint or lawsuit at every turn, it seemed?

I remember some folks taking advantage of it if you even so much as complimented a woman's haircut or dress. Of course, those claims were thrown out - but still people were lining up in troves.

I remember one woman accusing me of "flirting" with her simply because I held the door open for her - like I was trying to "make a move on her" I remember my girlfriend's college professor - who innocently complimented her haircut- immediately apologized and claimed he meant nothing bad by it because he was so afraid. (she laughed and said no problem - she wasn't one of those who exploited the SH laws)

Anyway - I remember a time when folks were walking on egg shells.

Same thing here. Man, you better pray to allah that you dont offend a muslim - one mistake and you get the lash. Or in this guy's case - the axe (self sacrifice)

They will make Jesus Christ out of urine and feces, and no one cares. But assume a Muslim, with a map of Pakistan next to his user name, is from, gee, Pakistan, and you are a racist, greasy islamaphobe galore.

Makes me want to sexually harass a woman just to hear about something different in the news...

Thanks Champ, I was scratching my head trying to figure out a Mohammed flavor, but just couldn't! Mohammed Mocha Almond Mayhem it is. In fact, it could be a protest ice cream...

Christien Meindertsma, author of "Pig 05049" looks at the astonishing afterlife of the ordinary pig, parts of which make their way into at least 185 non-pork products, from bullets to artificial hearts.

Christien Meindertsma uses art (and craft) to expose the hidden processes and connections of our modern life.

All you followers of Islam listen up. There ain't a whole "boatload" of items in your everyday life here in America that ain't touched by "Porky Pig". You guess what they are! We got along without you before we met you. We're gonna get along without from now own!
