You know I have always pondered that question. When a devout Muslim in Sweden only killed himself in an attempted terrorist attack in 2010, I sent the following inquiry to an online Islam q&a forum.

"Hello,

I've always had this question about Islam and was wondering if you could provide an answer.

If a Muslim becomes a "martyr" will he be rewarded more if the number of Infidels he kills is greater.

For example, the Muslim who recently blew himself in Sweden had all intentions to kill many Infidels but only ended up killing himself. Will allah still reward him as much as say the 9-11 Muslim terrorists or if he himself killed over 100 Infidels?

Or will he only get a partial reward, say 36 virgins who are just above average looking? Will he get to recline on lush carpets like Mohammad Atta or say just a carpet that is a tad better quality than one finds at Walmart?

I was wondering when someone in the Counter-Jihad was going to get around to specifying this persistently implied, but never overtly spelled out, theory.

It would certainly make the problem easier to solve -- by immediately reducing the number of problematic Muslims down from the hundreds of millions, to a mere smattering millions (how many clerics are there among the 1.2 billion Muslims? can't be more than a few million at best).

I think, however, that the theory suffers from the all too common tendency we have to try to make the Islamic square (or rather sexagon) fit into our Western circle. Western sociologists and anthropologists for decades now -- in the modern West's amusing but in some ways admirable pursuit to research and study what's wrong with our own society (under the no less amusing but never consciously avowed premise that Western man, Homo Occidentalis, is humankind itself) -- have been speculating about "group dynamics" and what are the possible mechanisms by which a mob spontaneously gathers, or the mechanisms by which a group of grad students who have volunteered for a sociology experiment may show tendencies to go along with the consensus on an issue or activity, even though individually, they may be indifferent to, or even oppose, it. And so forth.

I think what's going on here is that the West has been progressing and evolving on every level, including the psychological, sociological, cultural and intellectual (including arts and sciences of course) -- what could be called the "social infrastructure" of a civilization -- in addition to its spectacular progress in "hard infrastructure" (technology, organization, economics, productive order, etc.). As part of this amazing Western progress, the West still retains human flaws and sins, naturally, but they are far less indulged and are rather minimized by our progress, compared with more backward non-Western societies.

What Islam does to a people is take an already backward society ("Third World") and then impose upon it -- both externally by conquest and violent intimidation and browbeaeting psychological tactics, and internally by actually changing the hearts and minds of the masses so that they become True Believers (a process, needless to say, that is imperfect and is always beset by a seamy underside and ragged edges by which it is constantly necessary for Enforcers to whack the Ordinary Muslim with a cane to get him back in line, so to speak). Islam's sociological system, not by design but by sheer accident (or perhaps some darker source), has developed a kind of "social infrastructure" of its own, far more complex than the garden-variety Third World society, a way of controlling the new Islamized society that happens to mirror, it seems, nearly all our good qualities into a grotesque opposite (no Funhouse mirror, this), one that assiduously and obsessively organizes all the bad qualities of society and actually massively and with obsessive intricacy encourages sinful, demonic, or just otherwise dysfunctional thought patterns, emotions, and social behaviors -- on the individual level (if there even is an actual "individual" in the Western sense conscious in the Muslim milieu), the family level, the small group level, the mob level, and that most massive level of society ever-present in a Muslim's heart and mind: the symbolism of the Umma.

A key part of what I am describing is, to stop beating around the bush here, that Islamic society is unique, and we ought not superimpose Western models onto it to try to explain its wonderfully diverse pathologies.

I.e., in a nutshell: In the West, you do need some kind of rabble-rouser, the more charismatic the better, plus external circumstances conducive to his demagogy (extreme economic collapse -- viz., the Depression in Germany in the 20s, etc.) in order to get the freest, most individual-minded humans in all world history -- modern Westerners -- to behave like hateful mobs. But it would be a mistake to simply sweepingly assume this same dynamic is afoot among Muslims and is causing all the problems of mass Muslims we have seen in various forms a thousand times since 911.

No, it's more reasonable and safer for us to assume something else is afoot, and try to restrain our temptation to reach for the more comforting Western model by which to explain these uniquely freakish zombies called Muslims and their uniquely freakish Satanic culture called Islam.
