Senator Kyl: U.S. embassy response to murders like blaming rape victim

At last, some common sense. Too bad he is retiring. "Sen. Jon Kyl: US Embassy Response Like Blaming Rape Victim," by Gregory J. Krieg for ABC OTUS News, September 13:

Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., suggested today that President Obama's response to the embassy attacks in Egypt and Libya was akin to a court asking a rape victim for an apology.

Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill, the 70-year old, retiring senator said:

"It's like the judge telling the woman who got raped, 'You asked for it because of the way you dressed.' OK? That's the same thing. 'Well, America, you should be the ones to apologize, you should have known this would happen, you should have done - what I don't know - but it's your fault that it happened.' You know, for a member of our State Department to put out a statement like that, it had to be cleared by somebody. They don't just do that in the spur of the moment."

Kyl likely referred to criticism by U.S. diplomats in Egypt of a U.S.-produced film that reportedly features a negative depiction of Islam's prophet, Muhammed. The film was cited later during the attack on the U.S. embassy in Egypt.

"It came from people on the ground, who are potentially in danger," Obama told "60 Minutes." "You know, my tendency is to cut folks a little bit of slack when they're in that circumstance, rather than try to question their judgment from the comfort of a campaign office."

Mitt Romney was the first to attack the president, releasing a statement Tuesday night that claimed the White House's initial reaction was "disgraceful" and said the administration was inclined to "sympathize with those who waged the attacks."

Romney kept up his attack this morning at a news conference in Jacksonville, Fla.

"I think it's a terrible course for America to stand an apology for our values," he said. "An apology for America's values is never the right course."

Kyl, however, would apologize for - or seek to clarify - his remarks this evening, a spokesman contending "the comments were meant to demonstrate that innocent victims of violence need never apologize to those committing the heinous acts of violence."...

Apologize? For what? He is right: innocent victims of violence need never apologize to those committing the heinous acts of violence.

Well, of course it is, Senator- in Sharia you do blame the rape victim.

Wow! A bit of sanity in this mad world! Wow!

I guess that Senator Kyl is now officially an " Islamophobe "..

Kyl should come out in support of Sam Bacile and his fine film.

Your free speech is too dangerous for you to possess, so the gov is going to confiscate it...Free speech kills, so it will be banned...Look what it has done to those unfortunate people in the MI...Free speech has driven them into a frenzy of mayhem and murder...Ban free speech, it is the only way to protect from 'incitement'...You wouldn't want to incite anyone would you?

A.M.D.G.

Are there any other senators who have the courage to speak the truth or is it just the one who is retiring?

How do you deal with a bully?

There is no room for apologies.

Has anyone here not seen the movie? It's great!

HAHAA!

On the 12th of September 2012 an incident in Libya and across the Arab world a situation risen which cost the U.S consulate his life in Libya. The problem started with a little movie that insulted the prophet in Islam which happen in the United States of America and resulted in blood shed in Libya and demonstrations in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and other Arab countries but was this purely only because of defending religion?

The title in this above article is a good allegory. What's more, another way this may be put is from the Bible in Proverbs 17:15. which teaches "Acquitting the guilty and condemming the innocent- the Lord detests them both."
[NIV]

Sam Bacile's film is not a fine film. In all likelihood, he is an agent provocateur. What is strange about this episode is that this film has had little publicity, has not been released, few know about it and it's private on YT. Given all of that, chances are that he or someone closed to him tipped off people in Egypt, and their reaction started the embassy attack in Cairo, which then spread to Libya & later Yemen. Chances are also that his exercise is an attempt to discredit genuine works critical of Islam - such as Ali Sina's movie.

Well, I enjoyed it. Nice bit of blasphemy it was.

Also, the attack took place September 11th, which would suggest it had absolutely nothing to do with the humorous film. At least that's what Pam Geller said. And I agree.

In all honesty, anyything that pisses the Muslims off is fine to me: short films, cartoons, etc.

I love it all.

That's right, CGW. Give it to 'em with both barrels!

Unless you're one of our beloved Devil Dogs with empty magazines in Cairo... by order of the State Dept.!! I'm so angry about that right now I can't see straight!

Also, in answer to your query on another post: R.K. Macualraig

Hope you're doing OK today.

I have to admit the exact same analogy came to mind almost immediately and several times over the last day or so. Unavoidable thought, if not entirely appropriate. After all, the Muslims aren't attacking the guys whose free speech allegedly set them off. They aren't the victims. Though they will be if and when our government actually tries to prosecute to placate the Muslims.
