Re the blind sheikh, it is a pity that he did not draw the death sentence. People died in the 1993 WTC bombing, even though the damage was nowhere as great as in the 2001 bombing.

If Omar ABdel Rahman is released, he will go home to Egypt where he will continue to encourage young men to kill themselves and others when they could be working on and thinking about ways to improve a country where the majority definitely need some improvements in their lives. Worse, Abdel Rahman's release will make it appear that the USA is weak, and caves to the sort of mob violence that we have seen in Egypt, Libya, and Yemen. A far better tack would be to quietly tell Mori that if he plans to take an embassy hostage, the USA has options which Egypt will certainly not like.

Notice we have no idea who the source of this story is. Perhaps I'm being naive, but I find it simply too incredible to believe that Obama is considering releasing the mastermind of the 1993 WTC bombing. That would be releasing Osama bin Laden's direct predecessor in terror. It would be political suicide for Obama and the Democratic Party. Why would Obama, whether an Islamophile or actually Muslim himself, blow his political capital on releasing that one guy, instead of spending that political capital on a million other things Obama could do for the Islamic world without raising an uproar and crippling his ability to do anything else in a second term?
