Instead of condemning the murder and mayhem designed to intimidate Americans into not speaking freely about jihad and Islam, the U.S. Embassy freely abdicates its responsibility to stand for the freedom of speech. In reality, the only ones responsible for jihad rage and murder are the jihadists. If you hit me or call me a name, my reaction is up to me. There is no automatic, default-mode reaction to which I am bound. If Muslims in Egypt and Libya were insulted by this film (although it appears that they found it while looking for something to get insulted about), their reaction was up to them. It was not incited by the film. They could have laughed it off, or wept, or dismissed it with contempt, or prepared a rebuttal, or any number of other things. Instead, they rioted and killed. Those who did so are the only ones responsible for that. No one else.
But the U.S. Embassy, following Obama and Clinton, says it’s all out fault:
U.S. Embassy Condemns Religious Incitement
September 11, 2012The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims — as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others
No period at the end. Apparently they’re as careful about proofreading as they are about the Constitution.
