Palestinian Authority official: "No one has dropped the armed resistance from his dictionary"

These are the "moderates" whom Obama is pressuring the Israelis to make peace. "Fatah: Palestinians have not abandoned armed struggle," by Khaled Abu Toameh for the Jerusalem Post, October 8 (thanks to Charlie):

The Palestinians have not abandoned the option of armed struggle against Israel, a top Fatah official in the West Bank said Monday.
Mahmoud Aloul, member of the Fatah Central Committee and former Palestinian Authority governor of Nablus, said that although the Palestinians have agreed to launch a "popular resistance against occupation, no one has dropped the armed resistance from his dictionary."

Aloul's comments were made during an interview with the private Watan TV station in the West Bank. He pointed out that Fatah's political program has reaffirmed that "resistance is a legitimate right to resist the occupation."

Aloul noted, however, that "each option of the resistance requires certain conditions to be carried out." Therefore, he explained, there is a consensus that the resistance should at this stage take the shape of a popular struggle.

Aloul criticized the PA leadership for raising expectations about the establishment of a Palestinian state. "The Palestinian leadership has committed a sin regarding the creation of an independent Palestinian state," he said. "Building hospitals and schools does not mean that we are able to declare a state. Palestinians pinned high hopes on the messages they received from their leadership."

Aloul cautioned that Palestinians were now in a state of suffering and depression because they feel that their leadership has misled them into thinking that they are close to achieving statehood.

The Fatah official said that the Palestinians' red lines remained as solid as ever; the establishment of a Palestinian state on the pre-1967 lines, "liberating" Jerusalem, removing the settlements and solving the issue of Palestinian refugees.

Aloul said that the PA decided to suspend the peace talks with Israel because they were a waste of time. "When there is a new atmosphere for conducting the negotiations, we will return," he said. "But first we want to know what we are going to negotiate about."

Palestinians, as well as all Muslim nations, know nothing about real armed struggle. I mean the honorable kind of armed struggle. All they are capable of is some acts of cowardice. Firing a few rockets, then running away like a bunch of cowards, or attacking unarmed civilians. That's all they can do. That's all what Muhammad used to do. He was a coward and all his followers are the same.

How is it that the Jews wiped the Arabs in Six Days in 1967 -- some rabbits. They liberated a part of the British Mandate that had been invaded by the Arab Legion in 1948 -- an army supplied by and officered by the British. The Mandate was a trust of the political rights to Palestine that were recognized as belong to the Jews in the Balfour Declaration that was British Policy. The WWI Allies adopted it as a Treaty at San Remo in April, 1920 and that was confirmed by the League of Nations in 1922. That recognition of the political rights to Palestine belonging to the Jews was preserved in Article 80 of the UN Charter.

It appears that Danny has swallowed The Narrative of Perpetual Palestinian Victomhood that is a "poetic truth" that can't be dented by facts, logic, or reason.

The idea that the problem is Israel, that the problem is the Jews, protects Palestinians from having to confront that inferiority or do anything about it or overcome it. The idea among Palestinians that they are victims means more to them than anything else. It is everything. It is the centerpiece of their very identity and it is the way they define themselves as human beings in the world. It is not an idle thing. Our facts and our reason are not going to penetrate easily that definition or make any progress."
