Tariq Ramadan: "Eid Mubarak -- respect the sheep!"

On Eid al-Adha, Muslims sacrifice an animal in remembrance of Abraham's near-sacrifice of his son (Ishmael, in their view) in obedience to the deity. It is a three-day festival that begins today, and so deceptive Muslim pseudo-reformer Tariq Ramadan tweeted: "Eid Mubarak-Happy Feast.Beyond sadness and wounds,a day to feel good,to smile,to give,to love and to respect...even the sheep.Eid of dignity"

Respect the sheep while you're slitting its throat? Of course, Ramadan means that the person performing the sacrifice should do his work cleanly and without causing the sheep undue pain, but his use of "respect" in this way calls to mind how Islamic law oppresses women and non-Muslims and calls it "justice." Justice in Islamic law is not only compatible with but absolutely synonymous with beating disobedient women, forbidding non-Muslims to build new houses of worship or repair old ones, etc.

And of course Ramadan is an old hand at this manipulation of language. French journalist Caroline Fourest in Brother Tariq notes that Ramadan is "remaining scrupulously faithful to the strategy mapped out by his grandfather, a strategy of advance stage by stage" toward the imposition of Islamic law in the West. She explains that he invests words like "law" and "democracy" with subtle and carefully crafted new definitions, permitting him to engage in "an apparently inoffensive discourse while remaining faithful to an eminently Islamist message and without having to lie overtly -- at least not in his eyes."

And so remember: as you're slitting the sheep's throat, do it with respect! And extend the same respect to the Infidel as you're working to ensure his submission and humiliation!

are you sure he meant the animal (sheep) or does he mean the people who blindly follow mindless ideologies like islam...despite its blathering and blustering, islam can not pass the critical test of self examination.

With respect—to Robert Spencer, of course, not to the meretricious Tariq Ramadan or even the sheep—I don't believe this is what he means *at all*.

The "respect" in question is not minimizing the pain of the animal—it is intoning "Bismillah" over the poor creature's head while killing it.

*That* is the "respect" in question—that it is slaughtered in the name of the bloody god "Allah", and nothing more.

It is offering respect to Allah for providing for the Muslims, not any concern for the poor creature.

*Exactly*. Islam "respects" women and "People of the Book" in much the same way that it "respects" those poor doomed sheep...

Very important point. Muslims don't use words the same way we do. Revered words like "freedom", and "justice", and "the rule of law" and—yes—"respect"—mean *very* different things when used in Islam.

People at Jihadwatch do not seem to realise that at the time of Eid Mubarak the mighty Allah has a huge appatite and Mutton and prayers is His favourite dish...... washed down with CoKe or Pepsi as available.

Eid-al-Adha is one of the happiest occasions in Islam and is celebrated on 10th, 11th, and 12th of Zulhijjah, which is the last month of the Islamic calendar. On these three days, the Muslims slaughter the animals that have been nominated and specified for Qurbani. The act of Qurbani actually reminds us the incident of one of Allah’s Prophets, Hazrat Ibrahim (AS). All this was just to obey Allah’s will and bow down to His orders. This is what we are supposed to practice in our personal, domestic and social life. The message of Qurbani is to prefer Allah’s wish and will to our personal needs and requirements in all walk of life and in any case or circumstances.
Another act and message that is associated with Qurbani is to help others within your means and sources. This is what Qurbani appleas from us and we are obligatory supposed to answer the call of Qurbani Appeal.
