Call off the jihad -- the Louvre has a new Islamic wing!

"But it remains to be seen whether it will do anything to help bridge the growing divide between most French and the country’s 4 million Muslim residents during an especially tense time." Yeah, I am sure this will fix everything right up.

Lord, what fools these kuffar be.

"Louvre’s new Islamic wing aims to bridge cultural divide," by Valerie Gladstone for the Global Post, November 13:

PARIS, France — The Louvre doesn’t do things on a small scale. When the world’s most famous and most popular museum — it hosts more than nine million visitors a year — decided to add a new Islamic art wing, it took $125 million and a decade to build.

Opened earlier this year, its 18,000 works of art have drawn eager crowds. But it remains to be seen whether it will do anything to help bridge the growing divide between most French and the country’s 4 million Muslim residents during an especially tense time....

Inside, masterpieces representing the Islamic world’s wide cultural reach from Spain to India and spanning the 7th to the 19th centuries fill 30,000 square feet and two floors of galleries.

“There is a zest for Islamic art that I think is fairly new,” Louvre president and director Henri Loyrette said before the wing’s opening in September. “Our task is to reveal the face of this radiant civilization.”

President Francois Hollande has called the new wing a "cultural" and "political" act of confidence and "peace."

Economic disparities and accusations of racism have fuelled anger among Muslims that has sometimes bubbled over into riots, in a country that banned wearing the full-face veil last year.

Riot police were stationed around Paris during the gallery’s opening after a French weekly, Charlie Hebdo, said it would print satirical cartoons showing the prophet Muhammad. The publication followed a series of deadly riots in several Arab countries against a video privately produced in California that mocked Muhammad.

However, visitors said the Islamic wing largely succeeds in its mission. “It always helps to know more about other people’s cultures,” one woman said. “A comprehensive exhibition like this gives you something to study and appreciate, and widens your understanding. We need to be more open.”...

“Our task is to reveal the face of this radiant civilization.”

That's what we've been doing here at Jihad Watch for years now. Except that we don't call it "radiant civilization"!

Merci Charlie Hebdo for these radiant cartoons. One day, they will find their place in the Louvre!

Don't miss this masterpiece by Al-Vinci.

Francois Hollande has called the new wing a "cultural" and "political" act of confidence and "peace."..Or... appeasement, cultural prostitution where Islam (Muslims) is the master and France (The West) is the slave. Sick of these PC-MC dhimmis fighting for their slavery.

Yeeees-yes-yes. We know.
Islamic culture is only to be celebrated, never to be criticized ...or things happen.

Hugh Fitzgerald wrote a suitably acerbic account of this attempt to project a civilised, benign image of Islam through its art, in the New English Review's Iconoclast, on the occasion of the wing being opened in September.

http://www.newenglishreview.org/blog_direct_link.cfm/blog_id/43999

Oh Al-Vinci is disgusting. He should be decapitated. I was uncontrollably aroused by all the exposed facial flesh. Eyes only please and preferably only one.

Remember the wonderful 'Prophet' declared angels will not enter a Louvre which contains a dog or picture.

And how many "Christian wings" in museums in Islamic nations exist? Christ almighty, what is it going to take for dhimmis like Hollande and Loyrette to wake up? Ah, I fear eternal slumber here.

The West is in dumb mode right now, courtesy first and foremost of plenty of PC/MC elites in politics, the media and the academic world. Actually, they're the greater problem. If no influential PC/MC fools were around, then the West could easily take care of Islam and its many pathologies.

"4 million" Muslims in france?
I suspect the real number is much higher.

“Our task is to reveal the face of this radiant civilization.”
Yes reveal it! Problem is you won't! Your displays won't show the beheadings stonings suicide bombings and 14 centuries of aggressive war against their peaceful neighbours.
Just more gutless Dhimmitude.

"We need to be more open."

Good grief. Let's be open to our own subjugation. How high-minded of the lady.

" If no influential PC/MC fools were around, then the West could easily take care of Islam and its many pathologies."

Since the West, and no part of the West, is a tyranny, then the People are to a certain (perhaps great) extent accountable and responsible for the influence given to those influential elites.

Woops -- a made a Spenglerian slip: I meant to say, of course:

"Since the West, and any part of the West, is not a tyranny...

Your point is a good one, LL, snd well taken. Following the old line that every people have the governing of them they deserve, well, the body of the West right now have what they deserve. A good example of such folly just recently is how many young Americans voted for Obama last week---talk about voting against your long term interests.

In any case, and following an Alexander Hamilton line of reasoning, it is not unreasonable to expect that the elites will know how to proceed in a sensible fashion. And there is a difference between elitism and mere snobbery. The former is defensible, the latter is not. Unfortunately, the democratic imperative is being very badly served by the elites of our time. I'm sure Hamilton would be appalled.

From the article: "Our task is to reveal the face of this radiant civilization.”

*What* 'radiant civilisation'??

Let's hear a bunch of witnesses to the contrary.

We'll begin with a Frenchman, Andre Servier, writing in 1922:

“Islam was not a torch, as has been claimed, but an extinguisher.

"Conceived in a barbarous brain for the use of a barbarous people, it was - and it remains - incapable of adapting itself to civilization.

"Wherever it has dominated, it has broken the impulse towards progress and checked the evolution of society."

Then we turn to a nice Canadian theologian called Gerald Bray, writing in the 1980s. In his book 'Creeds, Councils and Christ', in the early chapters, there is this wonderful 'by-the-by' paragraph, every word of which is true:

“Islam is uncreative and even sterile, expanding as much by force as by persuasion but never developing a civilization of its own.

"Even the triumphs of the medieval Arabs were largely the work of Christian subject peoples in Egypt, Syria and Mesopotamia.

"When these converted to Islam in substantial numbers the élan was lost, and decay set in”.

John Quincy Adams, writing in 1829, would have agreed with him.

Here, from his “Unsigned essays dealing with the Russo-Turkish War, and on Greece, written while JQA was in retirement, before his election to Congress in 1830” Chapters X-XIV (pp. 267-402) in The American Annual Register for 1827-28-29. New York, 1830.]

is how Adams sums up Islam:

“In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar [i.e., Muhammad], the Egyptian, combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic, and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth.

"Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle.

"Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion.

"He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy;

"and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind.

"THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE (Adam's capital letters)….".

"Violence and lust", "Desolation and delusion": that is how Adams summed up the fruits of Islam, and a cool, unblinking study of the past and present of the dar al Islam, especially in those places and at those times when Muslims are or have been most determinedly and purely obeying and imposing the Sharia, strictly following the instructions in the canonical texts, and most closely imitating Mohammed, shows us that Adams was right.

Now, also in the 19th century, here is Cardinal Newman:

“The barbarian power [that is, Muslim Turkey- dda], which has been for centuries seated in the very heart of the Old World,
which has in its brute clutch the most famous countries of classical and religious antiquity and many of the most fruitful and beautiful regions of the earth;
and, which, having no history itself, is heir to the historical names of Constantinople and Nicaea, Nicomedia and Caesarea, Jerusalem and Damascus, Nineva and Babylon, Mecca and Bagdad, Antioch and Alexandria,

ignorantly holding in its possession one half of the history of the whole world.”

Here is the then American consul, William Eaton, describing the state of affairs in Islamic Tunis in 1799:

"Considered as a nation, they are deplorably wretched, because they have no property in the soil to inspire an ambition to cultivate it.

"They are abject slaves to the despotism of their government, and they are humiliated by tyranny, the worst of all tyrannies, the despotism of priestcraft. They live in more solemn fear of the frowns of a bigot who has been dead and rotten above a thousand years, than of the living despot whose frown would cost them their lives…

"The ignorance, superstitious tradition and civil and religious tyranny, which depress the human mind here, exclude improvement of every kind…".

And Henri Loyrette should be confronted, point blank, with the words of formidable Irishman Conor Cruise O'Brien, from his article in the London Times, 11 May 1989 (perhaps the last time that anyone ever got away with saying something as bluntly truthful as this, in public, in a western newspaper):

"Muslim society looks profoundly repulsive...It looks profoundly repulsive because it *is* repulsive...

"A westerner who claims to admire Muslim society, whilst still adhering to Western values, is either a hypocrite or an ignoramus or a bit of both.

"At the heart of the matter is the Muslim family, an abominable institution".

I encourage our French readership to translate it - *especially* the line "A westerner who claims to admire Muslim society, whilst still adhering to Western values, is either a hypocrite or an ignoramus or a bit of both". M. Henri Loyrette...that is *you*. Mr O'Brien has just described *you*.

For no sane, historically-informed human being could *ever* describe dar al Islam, and all the works and days of the Ummah, or Mohammedan mob, as "this radiant civilisation".

Conor Cruise O'Brien added, in the same article, for good measure: - “In the last century the Arab thinker Jamal al-Afghani wrote: ‘Every Muslim is sick and his only remedy is in the Koran.’ Unfortunately the sickness gets worse the more the remedy is taken”.

From two e-clippings files, 'famous quotes' and 'religion of ruin', I am going to post a series of scathing critiques of Islam - all of which I believe to be completely true and accurate - which French readers may find useful to translate, and then to circulate, by whatever means, whether digitally, or in pamphlet or leaflet form, most especially in Paris and in the neighbourhood of the Louvre.

First up, a classic from Sir Winston Churchill's 'The River War', the unexpurgated 1899 original edition.

"The religion of Islam above all others was founded upon the sword …

"Moreover it provides incentives to slaughter, and in three continents has produced fighting breeds of men – filled with a wild and merciless fanaticism”.

“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries!

"Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.

"The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity."

"The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

"Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities – but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world...".

Second, a former PM of the Czech Republic. Milos Zeman:

http://praguemonitor.com/2011/07/08/former-czech-pm-sued-over-statements-islam

Former Czech PM sued over statements on Islam

"The enemy is the anti-civilisation spreading from North Africa to Indonesia. Two billion people live in it and it is financed partly from oil sales and partly from drug sales," Czech news servers quoted Zeman as saying about Islam at the recent conference.

'Zeman said Thursday Muslims believe in the Koran like Nazis believed in racial supremacy and anti-semitism and communists in class struggle and dictatorship of the proletariat.

'He said Islam is far more aggressive and intolerant than present [sic: this probably means 'present-day' - dda] Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism and other world religions.

'He added that the Koran includes passages calling for the subjugation, enslavement and even elimination of non-believers."

Henri Loyrette is pleased to call Islam - the Ummah, the Empire of Islam - 'this radiant civilisation'.

But Milos Zeman has clearer eyes and a harder head, and rightfully identifies it not as a civilisation, even, but as an 'anti-civilisation':

"The enemy is the anti-civilisation spreading from North Africa to Indonesia. Two billion people live in it and it is financed partly from oil sales and partly from drug sales."

He might also have added that in the past the Ummah, or Mohammedan Mob, chiefly sustained itself - and its top dogs, its capi dei capi, enriched themselves - by armed robbery (plunder of raided or of invaded and conquered territory), slave-raiding and trading conducted on a massive scale, extortion (the jizya, imposed on captive indigenous populations Jewish, Christian, Zoroastrian and Hindu), and kidnapping-for-ransom.

My next witness is Dr A Carlebach/ Karlebakh, writing in Ma'ariv, in Israel, October 7, 1955, as cited in this classic article from the archives:

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2006/05/fitzgerald-edward-said-hoist-by-his-own-petard.html

These Arab Islamic countries do not suffer from poverty, or disease, or illiteracy, or exploitation; they only suffer from the worst of all plagues: Islam.

"Wherever Islamic psychology rules, there is the inevitable rule of despotism and criminal aggression.

"The danger lies in Islamic psychology, which cannot integrate itself into the world of efficiency and progress, that lives in a world of illusion, perturbed by attacks of inferiority complexes and megalomania, lost in dreams of the holy sword.

"The danger stems from the totalitarian conception of the world, the passion for murder deeply rooted in their blood, from the lack of logic, the easily inflamed brains, the boasting,

"and above all: the blasphemous disregard for all that is sacred to the civilized world...

"their reactions -- to anything -- have nothing to do with good sense. They are all emotion, unbalanced, instantaneous, senseless. It is always the lunatic that speaks from their throat.

"You can talk 'business' with everyone, and even with the devil. But not with Allah...This is what every grain in this country [that is, eretz Israel - dda] shouts.

"There were many great cultures here, and invaders of all kinds. All of them -- even the Crusaders -- left signs of culture and blossoming.

"**But on the path of Islam, even the trees have died.** {my emphasis - dda}".

To accompany Dr Carlebach, here is a sedate and erudite English clergyman and historian, James Parkes, from his book 'Whose Land?" which focuses on the human history - from early times, through to modern Israel - of the Land of Canaan, or Eretz Israel:

PP. 117-118

"[During the Turkish period in the Holy Land] “the [Muslim] religion of the peasants, the Bedouin and the urban mob, was little more than a crude, violent and intensely arrogant superstition which took delight in robbery and murder. {and, to be frank, this is probably the best way to describe Islam-as-practised-and-taught, throughout the entire history of the Ummah - 'a crude, violent and intensely arrogant superstition which took delight in robbery and murder' - dda}.

“When the governors and officials themselves gave an example of insatiable avarice it is not surprising if every village and tribal sheikh did the same, and there was no group who was robbed and pillaged with greater delight than the unfortunate Christian population”.

p. 131 – “the insecurity created by the complete indifference of the Turkish pashas to the local wars and raids of local amirs, beduin tribes, Druzes and others, was reducing not only the Jewish community but the whole country to a degree of poverty and desolation even greater than it had known under the Mamluks”.

p. 218 – “The religion of Islam normally expressed itself only in the intolerant and intolerable belief in his own superiority which was exhibited by the most ignorant Muslim in the presence of Christian patriarch or Jewish rabbi”. {And I think we have all seen this, in any number of modern trials of Mohammedans who have been caught plotting Jihad; the strutting, the sneering, the boasting and threats and contempt of court show by such Mohammedans, when in the presence of the Judge - dda).

“Fanaticism is the natural concomitant of ignorance and arrogance and it is unfortunate that Christians and Jews, in the hope of securing better treatment for their fellows under Muslim rule, by the flattering of Muslim authorities, that have created out of Koranic tolerance [?? – the only false note here, Mr Parkes; there is in fact nothing that we modern Westerners would recognise as tolerance, in the Quran or any other part of the Islamic corpus - dda] of the peoples of the book the legend of the favourable treatment of Christians and Jews. It might indeed be said of the Turkish authorities that they exhibited the tolerance of indifference when suitably paid to do so”.

James Parkes, describing Islam-on-the-ground in Ottoman 'Palestine':

"a crude, violent and intensely arrogant superstition which took delight in robbery and murder".

I think it applies just as well to Islam in many other places and times...indeed, it could be a description of the Islam of the Trilogy (Sira, Quran, Hadith); the Islam codified in every school of sharia law; the Islam we hear preached by hysterically shrieking or slyly hissing 'clerics' in a neverending parade of clips to be found translated on MEMRI.

From the article:

“There is a zest for Islamic art that I think is fairly new,” Louvre president and director Henri Loyrette said before the wing’s opening in September. “Our task is to reveal the face of this radiant civilization.”

'This radiant civilization'. That is: Islam, the Empire of Islam, the Ummah or Mohammedan Mob who have just been busy burning down churches in Tanzania, and violently attacking Hindus and Christians in Pakistan, and Christians in Egypt.

Henry Loyrette, on Islam: 'this radiant civilization'.

Serge Trifkovic, in 'The Sword of the Prophet'

PAGE 207 – in chapter entitled “The Fruits”.

“The fruits of attempted escape from the shackles of natural morality are as predictable as they are grim, for the Muslims no less than for their victims: both are enslaved, brutalized and dehumanized by Islam. The all-pervasive lack of freedom is the hallmark of the Muslim world.

Discrimination against non-coreligionists and women of all creeds,
racism,

slavery,

virulent antisemitism,

and cultural imperialism can be found – individually or in various combinations – in different cultures and eras.

**Islam alone has them all at once, all the time, and divinely sanctioned at that.”** {my emphasis - dda}.

There is no presumed equality of different people’s claim to life, liberty or any pursuit at all in Islam.”

'

Another no-holds-barred critique of what M. Henry Loyrette was pleased to call "this radiant civilization".

From the Catholic missionary priest, Father J L Menezes, who spent many, many years in pre-partition India, where he had ample opportunity to observe the behaviour of Muslims, and to contrast it with the behaviour of members of other belief-systems.

He wrote a book called THE LIFE AND RELIGION OF MOHAMMAD [recently reprinted - (Roman Catholic Books, P.O. Box 2286, Fort Collins, Colo. 80522, 1912/2005 reprint)], on p 140 of which, he sums up Islam:

“The Mahommedan religion on the whole with all its dogmatic and moral principles, and with all its positive and negative laws has been a curse to human society.

"Mahommed pretended to confer by his religion a boon, at least on his own countrymen, by giving them in place of gross idolatry a purer faith, and surer moral habits, but in this attempt he has miserably failed and has hopelessly fallen into the very sin he so vehemently assailed.

"Mahommedanism has penetrated into barbarous countries and has forced its inhabitants to accept it as their saving religion, but in doing so it has not succeeded in elevating man’s condition to a higher level – or at least to a level any higher than that of Arabia in Mohammed’s time.

"The Partial and specious reforms which it may have attempted to effect, are vitiated by the fact that they tend to exclude the higher and nobler virtues;

"and as their inner life of families, the whole, the whole tone of society and the intellectual and moral standard of a people depend on the principles of the ruling religion,

"**it is hopeless to expect that Islam will ever cease to be what it hitherto proved, the most formidable obstacle to the dawn of a progressive and enlightened civilization.** {my emphasis - dda}

"How can it be otherwise?

"No permanent house can be built on a foundation of sand; what permanent civilization and progress then can be expected from a people professing a religion founded on fatalism, polygamy and slavery?

"Their blind belief in inevitable fate, and their antagonism to liberty of thought and action have rendered reform next to impossible;

"and the professors of this religion seem never to realize their obligation and duty towards the people under their rule, of spreading true civilization, good government and the cultivation of the peaceful arts.

"The natural consequence of this ignorance and blindness has been despotism, mal-administration, bigoted persecution and oppression of their co-religionists.

"In the countries of the Mahommedan world

"anarchy, rapine, revenge, strife and murder are the order of the day,

"thieving, lying, usury and oppression are looked upon more as virtues than vices;

"unrestrained licentiousness is carried to unimaginable excess.

"Dirt and filth are things that never come seriously before the attention of Mahommedans;
they seem indeed to prefer living in the most dirty and filthy environment.

"They are generally illiterate and at the same time self-conceited
and their vainglory in their religion and the nothingness of their own acquirements makes them scorn every other religion;

"the meager education which they generally receive when young, makes them believe that there is not much left for them to learn in the world.

"In short, Mahommedan countries are the chosen homes of
ignorance, bigotry, tyranny and brutal vice,

"and rendezvous for a filthy, unprincipled people, as well as for brigands, felons and freebooters.

"While all other countries not influenced by Islam have made rapid progress in every direction and enjoy the blessings and peace of true civilization,

"Mahommedan countries have remained absolutely opposed to change and reform;

"nay, rapacity and extortion have reduced them to a most deplorable state.

"Such is the boon conferred on human society by the Mahommedan religion, and what a benefactor Mahommed has been to his country!

"Who was pleased to give to his country, nay, to the whole world, a religion which, claiming a divine origin as the final and irrevocable standard of morality,

"has kept its followers sunk in ignorance and barbarism, and has become an insuperable barrier to the regeneration, civilization and progress of the Eastern world.”

Quotable quote:

"**it is hopeless to expect that Islam will ever cease to be what it hitherto proved, the most formidable obstacle to the dawn of a progressive and enlightened civilization.** {my emphasis - dda}

"How can it be otherwise?

"No permanent house can be built on a foundation of sand; what permanent civilization and progress then can be expected from a people professing a religion founded on fatalism, polygamy and slavery?"

And to complete the set, one James Freeman Clarke, 19th century American unitarian clergyman and abolitionist, writing about Islam in the eleventh chapter of his book 'Ten Great Religions':

First, from section 5: 'religious doctrines and practices among the Mohammedans':

"There is no recognition, in the Koran, of human brotherhood. It is a prime duty to hate infidels and make war on them. Mohammed made it a duty for Moslems to betray and kill their own brothers when they were infidels; and he was obeyed in more cases than one."

And:
"The two main divisions are into Sunnites and Shyites. The Persians are mostly Shyites, and refuse to receive the Sunnite traditions. They accept Ali, and denounce Omar. Terrible wars and cruelties have taken place between these sects. Only a few of the Sunnite doctors acknowledge the Shyites to be Moslems. They have a saying, "to destroy a Shyite is more acceptable than to kill seventy other infidels of whatever sort."

Toward the end of this same section, we read:
:
"Two recent travellers, Mr. Palgrave and Mr. Vambéry, have described the present state of Mohammedanism in Central Arabia and Turkistan, or Central Asia.
"Barth has described it as existing among the negroes in North Africa.
"Count Gobineau has told us of Islam as it is in Persia at the present day.
"Mr. MacFarlane, in his book "Kismet, or the Doom of Turkey," has pointed out the gradual decay of that power, and the utter corruption of its administration.
"After reading such works as these,—and among them let us not forget Mr. Lane's "Modern Egyptians,"—the conclusion we must inevitably come to is, that **the worst Christian government, be it that of the Pope or the Czar, is very much better than the best Mohammedan government.** {my emphasis - dda}.

'Everywhere we find arbitrary will taking the place of law.

“In most places the people have no protection for life or property, and know the government only through its tax-gatherers.

**“And all this is necessarily and logically derived from the fundamental principle of Mohammedan theology. God is pure will, not justice, not reason, not love.** {my emphasis - dda}.

'Christianity says, "God is love"; Mohammedanism says, "God is will." Christianity says, "Trust in God"; Mohammedanism says, "Submit to God."

'Hence the hardness, coldness, and cruelty of the system; hence its utter inability to establish any good government.

'According to Mr. MacFarlane, it would be a blessing to mankind to have the Turks driven out of Europe and Asia Minor, and to have Constantinople become the capital of Russia.

'The religion of Islam is an outward form, a hard shell of authority, hollow at heart. It constantly tends to the two antagonistic but related vices of luxury and cruelty.

'Under the profession of Islam, polytheism and idolatry have always prevailed in Arabia.
'In Turkistan, where slavery is an extremely cruel system, they make slaves of Moslems, in defiance of the Koran. One chief being appealed to by Vambery (who travelled as a Dervish), replied, "We buy and sell the Koran itself, which is the holiest thing of all; why not buy and sell Mussulmans, who are less holy?"'.

Then, in section 6 .
'Mr. Palgrave, who has given the latest and best account of the condition of Central and Southern Arabia, under the great Wahhabee revival, sums up all Mohammedan theology as teaching a Divine unity of pure will.
'God is the only force in the universe. Man is wholly passive and impotent.
'He calls the system, "A pantheism of force."
'God has no rule but arbitrary will.
'He is a tremendous unsympathizing autocrat, but is yet jealous of his creatures, lest they should attribute to themselves something which belongs to him.
'He delights in making all creatures feel that they are his slaves.
'This, Mr. Palgrave asserts, is the main idea of Mohammedanism, and of the Koran, and this was what lay in the mind of Mohammed.

"Of this," says he, "we have many authentic samples: the Saheeh, the Commentaries of Beydāwee, the Mishkat-el-Mesabeeh, and fifty similar works, afford ample testimony on this point.
'But for the benefit of my readers in general, all of whom may not have drunk equally deep at the fountain-heads of Islamitic dogma, I will subjoin a specimen, known perhaps to many Orientalists, yet too characteristic to be here omitted, a repetition of which I have endured times out of number from admiring and approving Wahhabees in Nejed.
'"Accordingly, when God—so runs the tradition,—I had better said the blasphemy—resolved to create the human race, he took into his hands a mass of earth, the same whence all mankind were to be formed, and in which they after a manner pre-existed; and, having then divided the clod into two equal portions, he threw the one half into hell, saying, 'These to eternal fire, and I care not'; and projected the other half into heaven, adding, 'And these to paradise, and I care not.'...

""The Wahhabee reformer," continues Mr. Palgrave, "formed the design of putting back the hour-hand of Islam to its starting-point; and so far he did well, for that hand was from the first meant to be fixed. Islam is in its essence stationary, and was framed thus to remain.

"Sterile like its God, lifeless like its First Principle and Supreme Original, in all that constitutes true life,—for life is love, participation, and progress, and of these the Koranic Deity has none,—it justly repudiates all change, all advance, all development.

"To borrow the forcible words of Lord Houghton, the 'written book' is the 'dead man's hand,' stiff and motionless; whatever savors of vitality is by that alone convicted of heresy and defection...

And finally, in section 7, Mr Clarke observes:

"The merits and demerits, the good and evil, of Mohammedanism are to be found in this, its central idea concerning God.
" It has taught submission, obedience, patience; but it has fostered a wilful individualism.
" It has made social life lower. Its governments are not governments.
" Its virtues are stoical.
" It makes life barren and empty. It encourages a savage pride and cruelty. It makes men tyrants or slaves, women puppets, religion the submission to an infinite despotism."

Judging by what I see in the history of the Ummah, and in much of its present conduct, especially where Islam holds undiluted sway, I think Mr Clarke's summary is no less than the bare truth:

"It [Islam] makes life barren and empty. It encourages a savage pride and cruelty. It makes men tyrants or slaves, women puppets, religion the submission to an infinite despotism."

And M. Henri Loyrette, of the Louvre, is pleased to call *that* "

"this radiant civilization"...

The magnitude of the falsehood there perpetrated should have caused the sky to turn black and the earth to open and swallow up Mr Loyrette in the instant of utterance.

Thanks, dda.

No jury would take long in deliberation.

There is no Islamic art to equal what has been created in either Eastern or Western Christendom, or by the pre-Christian societies of those same regions. There is *nothing* in Islam to match the Charioteer of Delphi; *nothing* to match the delights of the illumination in the Book of Kells, or Rublev's 'Three Angels' icon, or Rembrandt's 'The Jewish Bride', or Rodin's 'The Kiss' or Van Gogh's 'Starry Night'.

There is no Islamic 'art' to equal what has been created by Hindu India, or by China, or Japan, or Korea; or what was created in the East Indies before they were swallowed up by Islam (to get an idea, see what survives in majority-Hindu Bali; then imagine *all* of Indonesia being sort of like Bali).

The 35 000 year old paintings of the Chauvet cave, and the gorgeous paintings of Altamira and Lascaux, are more lively, moving and beautiful than anything Islamic artists - those miniaturists in India or in Persia, working in despite of the strict letter of the sharia, which forbids *all* visual representation of living beings, human or animal - ever produced.

The native non-Muslim peoples of the Pacific (Polynesians, Melanesians), of Africa, of the Americas, of Australia, have all produced art - paintings, rock engravings, masks, sculptures in stone or wood, and in the case of the Americas and Africa, figures made with pottery or gold - that is more complex, inventive, varied and aesthetically pleasing, or even when not conventionally beautiful to modern western eyes, still commanding awe - e.g. the stone heads of Easter Island, and some Mayan and Aztec statues and bas reliefs-) than anything produced by Muslims.

Every non-Muslim society in existence, no matter how 'primitive', has produced art - art both sacred and profane - that outdoes anything that Muslims have managed to produce.

dumbledoresarmy, thank you for all those enlightening comments, I read them all.

dda,

Thanks for your very well researched posts. It seems learned men of the past have been much more enlightened about islam than our "leaders" of today.

Despite 9/11 and everything that has come after, despite the daily outpouring of hatred and incidents of horrific violence, all of which can be seen in living colour on the internet, dhimmified idiots like Henri Loyrette and Francois Hollande continue to cater to muslims and praise islam as "the religion of peace", in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

It makes me crazy!

"Thanks for your very well researched posts. It seems learned men of the past have been much more enlightened about islam than our "leaders" of today. "

That's because PC MC has become dominant and mainstream over the past 60-odd years throughout the West. Prior to that time, PC MC ideas existed, but were a minority view. Now they are a majority view. So it's not just our leaders and elites that are the problem, but millions of ordinary people too who, in their confused sincerity, fear that it would be "biased" if not "bigoted" (or even "racist") to criticize Muslims too much.

And this is so mainly because these well-intentioned, confused Westerners perceive Muslims to be an ethnic people (or a wonderful rainbow or "tapestry" of ethnic peoples and cultures) -- and as such, immune from all serious substantive criticism.

Jihadists have been telling us for over a decade exactly their motivation, and what they intend.

It therefor is the lack of allegiance and patriotisum of the White House, Pentagon, Senate, Congress, Dept. of Defense, and Homeland Security that our nation and world are still struggling against many millions of jihadists throughout the world.

There is no good reason why the United Nations and other nations can't join (unite) in a serious commitment to end jihadists world wide.

It should be no surprize that these bombings and murders continue against non-Muslims. But the tip of the sword is not jihad with weapons, but jihad politically and socially in the justice departments and courtrooms world wide. The push for Sharia Law in place of local constitutions is the most dangerous weapon jihadists have.....

Dear Jihad Watch:

Dumbledoresarmy and the other posters with this article- thank you very much. It was very informative and I am continuing learning about this movement that is hellbent on destroying the world.

Thank you all again for this information.

Call off the jihad -- the Louvre has a new Islamic wing!

"But it remains to be seen whether it will do anything to help bridge the growing divide between most French and the country’s 4 million Muslim residents during an especially tense time."
...................................

Does it matter that those 4 million-plus Muslim residents are trying to oppress and murder the native French? Heck no—a few display cases featuring Qur'anic calligraphy and samples of Mosque tile-work will take care of that!
What idiocy. One wonders whether this is Da'wa or dhimmitude—but ultimately, it may matter little. It will serve to whitewash Islam, in any case.

More:

PARIS, France — The Louvre doesn’t do things on a small scale. When the world’s most famous and most popular museum — it hosts more than nine million visitors a year — decided to add a new Islamic art wing, it took $125 million and a decade to build.
...................................

More ipso facto Jizya...

More:

Opened earlier this year, its 18,000 works of art have drawn eager crowds. But it remains to be seen whether it will do anything to help bridge the growing divide between most French and the country’s 4 million Muslim residents during an especially tense time....
...................................

Why is this "an especially tense time"? Because with the Muslim population of France approaching 10%, they are increasingly demanding and violent, as is *always* the case.

More:

“There is a zest for Islamic art that I think is fairly new,” Louvre president and director Henri Loyrette said before the wing’s opening in September. “Our task is to reveal the face of this radiant civilization.”
...................................

Uh...right. Your task is to run interference for violent conquerors, and all too many of the French public will exhibit that "zest for Islamic art" that any good dhimmi will recognize as quite necessary...

Never mind that so many of these pious Muslims would be perfectly happy to destroy the Louvre and its priceless treasures of Infidel art.

More:

Economic disparities and accusations of racism have fuelled anger among Muslims that has sometimes bubbled over into riots, in a country that banned wearing the full-face veil last year.
...................................

The fact that Muslims haven't been able to completely subdue the civilized French and impose Shari'ah law are the reasons things have "bubbled over into riots". Violent riots are both a result of Muslim rage against the Infidel *and* a tool for advancing Islamic norms.

More:

Riot police were stationed around Paris during the gallery’s opening after a French weekly, Charlie Hebdo, said it would print satirical cartoons showing the prophet Muhammad. The publication followed a series of deadly riots in several Arab countries against a video privately produced in California that mocked Muhammad.
...................................

And yet, the Louvre would have you believe that these Muslim thugs are entirely civilized creators of art...

More:

However, visitors said the Islamic wing largely succeeds in its mission. “It always helps to know more about other people’s cultures,” one woman said. “A comprehensive exhibition like this gives you something to study and appreciate, and widens your understanding. We need to be more open.”...
...................................

Well, Muslims would certainly appreciate you being more "open"—especially to Muslim dominance...

What fools these Kuffar be, indeed!

And the fact is that most "Islamic art" is the remnant of the conquered culture's art used to serve their new Islamic overlords. This is true of Mughal miniatures and Persian tile work.

And—also very important—the "Golden Age" of any region's "Islamic art" always fades quickly. Why is that? Because the grind of Islam is never supportive of creativity. Islam is profoundly hostile to the creation of any art.

A newly-conquered population soon converts to Islam or is ground down by oppressive dhimmitude.

By the time a region is largely Muslim—Afghanistan, say, or Yemen or Somalia—there is virtually *no* creation of art.

The true treasures of Afghan art are Buddhist and Greco-Bactrian—and that was from a very, very long time ago, indeed—and is despised and destroyed by pious Muslims as worthless "Jahillya".

WallyUK wrote:

Hugh Fitzgerald wrote a suitably acerbic account of this attempt to project a civilised, benign image of Islam through its art, in the New English Review's Iconoclast, on the occasion of the wing being opened in September.

Thanks for posting the link to that essay by the inimitable Hugh Fitzgerald, Wally.

I suspect the new addition does not include photos of stonings, beheadings, lashes being administered, burnt churches, child brides, photos of victims of suicide attacks, photos of torture cells in Islamic prisons, photos of dead Christians, photos of Muslim women in prison for various violations of Shar'ia law, photos of kidnapped Christian girls, slaves or of jihad attacks...to be a valid addition, the new wing should include everything Islamic...

All grim but true, Pulsar. As you note, I doubt the museum goers are going to get much of a whiff of true Islam.

Here's the L.A. Times' puff piece on this story:

"Louvre's new Islamic wing provides tonic at time of tension"

As a new Islamic wing opens with 2,500 vintage artifacts at the Louvre in Paris, visitors find a welcome respite from recent TV images of angry protests in the Muslim world.

They do mention Islamic conquests, but make it sound as though this is an aspect of the distant past. If you read through the article, you will find a quote by the the curator of the Islamic Art Department at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art who wonders why the Louvre has the poor taste to mention it at all...

Nice work as always, gravenimage.

A hypothetical counter-example would reveal the overwhelming bias in play here: Imagine if an exhibit opened of any major Western museum wing devoted to the "Spanish art & architecture in the New World, 16th to 20th century". We all know that the presentation would be framed by frequent reminders of the brutality and racist colonialism of the Catholic Conquistadores and their shameful legacy. The exhibit likely would be "balanced" with indigenous art showing how lovely and peaceful the Mayans and Aztecs were, before their culture was brutally raped by the Spaniards. But, of course, this Islamic exhibit has no such balance.
